For better or worse, im prepared for anyone to go. An aging superstar has requested a trade to us for the 2nd time. The train is coming down the tracks. We've all seen this movie before.

His point is Louie Debrusk turned out to be nothing, there are no guarantees with prospects.

Very rarely does a McDonnagh/Gomez deal go in favor of the prospect

There's also a major difference between trading a 100% prospect who hadn't played an NHL game and Miller who has already shown he has what it takes to play at an NHL level, now it's sustaining it.

If his last two stints haven't shown you that he will likely be a quality NHL'r then i must question how you analyze players.

Debrusk was a 100% prospect, Miller is already on the cusp of sticking with the big team.

Serious?

You want to trade a 20 year old for a 38 year old?

If I offered you $20 today or $10 worth of Lottery Tickets, would you take the Lottery Tickets on the off chance that you would make more then $20 and possibly even hit the jackpot?

Miller has the potential to be a long term core piece on a contender.

Shipping him out for a 38 y/o MSL would be absolutely asinine.

I'm not as high on Miller as some. I just don't have a good feel for what kind of player he is or what he might project to be. But with the current state of this team, you can't trade him for MSL unless another prospect is coming back in a larger deal.

The inclusion of Fast or Lindberg with Callahan does not stop me from trading that package for MSL. If TB throws in Connolly, I'd give up both. I don't part with Miller, McIlrath or Skjei.

I agree.

Not as high on Lindberg and Fast. Higher on Fast than Lindberg. But Miller and Skjei, IMO, are future core pieces. You just don't move them for a 38 year old.

If we were to be getting a young #1 center, i'd trade any of our prospects. But this isn't the case, here.

McIlrath i have no issues trading for a good young player, not a 38 year old, though.

If any of: McDonagh, Kreider, Stepan, Miller, Skjei, Zuccarello, Lundqvist get moved i will be livid.

Well, I guess I'm in the minority here, but I'd move Miller in a deal for St. Louis :dunno:

I probably would too. I see it as getting 2 or 3 seasons of a top player in the world for 12-13 of a dime a dozen grinder. Don't get me wrong, it definitely feels wrong in some ways but I just have a feeling that with the way MSL plays, he will be one of those rare ones who is effective until he is 42-43ish.

I'd take the $20 and go buy/draft my own lottery tickets.

Good to see that years of getting pushed around by bigger clubs has Sather thinking "We need another 5' 8" player...and hopefully we can find a really old one. That will help.

Lol, Miller a dime a dozen grinder.

Kid will be better then Callahan ever was.

Not a good analogy.

A better one would be:

If you offered $20 today + death tomorrow, or $10 worth of lottery tickets..."

See I don't want to be a challenger for the cup this year.

I want to challenge for the cup every year

Moving someone who will contribute for the next 10 years for someone who will contribute for 2 is just totally insane

MSL is one of the best players in the world. Period. Let's not forget that part.

I see your point.

But I think thats more of a symptom of a disfunctional organization than anything having to do with Miller. I think he'll wind up being a good player.

And how often does trading any prospect for a 38 year old work out?

Here is a challenge, For every 1 trade you bring to the table, where the prospect turned out to be the better move. I will bring 2 trades to the table where the prospects fizzled out

Trade Centre on TSN is so boring during the morning every year

Sather is growing older and doesn't have the best health. Not sure there's much time left for him as our GM.

Trading for MSL is likely his last stand. Sad and misguided as it could end up being.

Lets not forget the part where it is absolutely inevitable that players will decline around his age. It will happen. He's not sustaining this level of play into his mid-40's

Remember Shanahan's stint here? He was really good for his first season. He proceeded to completely fall apart rapidly and then retired. He was roughly the same age as St. Louis.

At that age its risky and guys can rapidly fall apart.
