Remember when Dubinsky was having a down year, the Rangers traded him, he returned to form, and now everyone misses the hell out of him. Same thing is happening with Stepan. He's having a down year, and long-term he's probably just a strong #2 C. Hang on to him and figure out how you can bump him down in the depth charts to #2 where he belongs.

So nearing he end of the eve of the deadline the only NYR beat writer with any intel was Brooksie.

Wonder if Torts called him with that info personally?

Returned to form?

I say, he's been fairly average, because thats what he is, an average hockey player.

You also do the trade for Nash every time over.

I'll buy it :dunno:

So much of this. I posted his stats earlier and he has consistently been trending upwards every year (except this one) ... it's a down year ... relax guys this does not mean he sucks.

Kane makes 4.5 NHL Salary this year and next year will have 6.0 NHL salary..

http://capgeek.com/player/1536

although Kane's cap hit is 5.25

Kane at 5.25 or Cally at 6.whatever :shakehead

Yea… you can shake your head all you want - do you really think I'm referring to his cap hit?

How about the kings bounty that it would take to acquire a 22 year old, power forward who is seen by some as a potential franchise player on a team that is rebuilding…? A) Why would Winnipeg trade him to begin with, and B) How exactly do you plan to outbid 29 other teams? Let me guess Fast, Miller, and a 2nd. How about we trade for Toews as well? We do need a #1 center. He'd be great between Kreider and Kane. ZOMG what is Sather doing by not making these trades!?

Trading Stepan for Stastny lol. Horrible idea.

As for the salaries, Jordan and Eric have a combined hit of 14.25

Assuming in the offseason, we gut Cally and Richards and one of send Brassard in the package, that's 14.075 (in this years cap hit, not Cally's 6 mil).

So we have one spot to fill, but have essentially replaced Brass and Richards with the two Staals.

Miller slots in for Cally. We have to find about 1.5 in cap space (which we have sitting). Move Dorsett or something. No big deal.

This could easily be done, thing is, the package they would want would be massive. I'd assume we start with Stepan and another good roster player.

Stepan
Brassard
Callahan
Dorsett
Allen
Kristo
1st & 3rd

Probably need to add more.

Dorsett comes off the books, we retain Carcillo.

Staals slot in for Steps and Brass. Miller stays in for Cally, once Zucc is back.

Kreider-E. Staal - Nash
Hags - J. Staal - Zucc
Pouliot - Miller - TBD (FA or Rookie)
Carcill0 - Moore - Boyle

Really just leaves a top 6 LW as a need, assuming Miller develops past this year. I'm willing to go with his growing pains. Let Richie center the third line until the end of the year, slot Miller in on his RW.

To get Eric, McDonagh would necessarily be part of the equation... it'd look more like Mac/Girardi, Kreider/Stepan, Miller/Duclair/Skjei and maybe a 1st or 2nd for Eic.

We do not have the means to get BOTH (value of two brothers to a team with yet a 3rd marquee brother) would be extraordinarily high, and negotiations start with Hank.

Nice thought, though ;)

Bingo!

But I would even venture to say that he is very much so a first line center who's just not done cooking yet!

The Rangers, as of Tuesday night, were not any closer to striking a deal with Callahan than they were Tuesday morning.*(NY Post)

He was a 50-point second liner. Had a terrible 2012-2013 campaign with 34 points. Now he's on pace for a little over 50 points again in 2013-2014. Yes. Returned to form.

I like the Nash trade. I'd do it over again. Trading Stepan for a Stastny or Kesler is not a Nash-type trade.

Dubinsky isn't average at all, he's an excellent player who puts up solid points and plays a physical, chippy game, is an on ice leader, all kinds of crap. Dubinsky is a very good player. Not saying I'd redo the Nash trade but Dubinsky is a damn good NHLer and I'd be glad to bring him back

People must have missed the tweet earlier that said Stastny would take a home town discount to stay in Colorado.

Yeah..... but Colorado has too many centers.

McKinnon, Stastny, O'Reilly, Duchesne.

They can't all play on the top 2 lines.

What the hell has to happen for then to realize he's not going to sign for 6 /36, are they gonna wit until 2 pm tomorrow to make a deal? I hope they are content with dealing him but are just waiting for Vanek to be moved first to open up the market
