Probably not. Size is overrated unless it's paired with skill.

that is what the Rangers dont have...outside of Nash, although he has that but does he really use his size and frame in a physical demanding way. he is not really aggressive at all. he uses his size to deke and down low but he is not much of a physical player... i want a E.Kane/Jamie Benn/Simmonds type forward..

8.25 is absolutely common for a person of his level. What would you want to pay a #1?

It also brings him until he's 31. It was actually a fantastic deal with no recapture.

I don't think theer would be any issue retaining him as well, considering we'd own all of his brothers.

I understand not wanting Kesler and Spezza, but Eric Staal is in his prime on a completely fair contract that doesn't last for a decade and could possibly be had.

For this year would make us insta-contenders. And in future years if we get a good 3C or develop Miller, or retain one of Steps/Brassard.

Really doesn't make sense to me how you think this cap hit is bad.

I'd much rather have Staal at 8.25M than Callahan at 6M. That said, what would it cost to get Eric?

I may have missed a past post, but in this scenario are we sending stepan, brassard, and miller + to Carolina and not buying out Richards? I think getting both staals and not buying out brad would be a $ issue.

Rangers could use some more size, BUT it also needs to be someone with skill.. I'd love to get someone like an Evander Kane, someone like that

I wouldn't mind paying E. Staal that contract. Kesler's deal is good but he's no 1C like Staal (and Spezza, who's underrated).

Because he has a habit of showing effort in only half a season and for a cap hit that high, I'd want a lot more than 47 points in 58 games.

A ********, but I'd pay up for he and his brother as a package. They're both young and will be good for years.

If you buyout Richards, replace Steps/Brass with both Staals and let Cally go the contracts are fine.

Moving Richards and letting Cally walk alone will pretty much fit them.

Let Miller keep the regular spot. Move Steps and Brass in the package, unless you can potentially retain one.

Still waiting for one of these big name forwards to move. Who will get the ball rolling? Vanek go first?

I really respect your opinion, and I'll give you he's had an off-season this year, but his stats and effort have always been consistent.

I strongly disagree on the "only half a season" thing. Guy is a legit #1. Young-ish and on a fair contract. Also manages to stay healthy.

It's fine to say "I want that" but it's hard to get.

Agreed.

Plenty would rather save a pittance and have Paul Stastny, for some reason.

Maybe effort wasn't the right word but I've always been told the guy is a notoriously slow starter.

How could we fit both Jordan and Eric's salaries? Carolina may need to retain $1 million on one or both contracts for us to negotiate
