You basically just summed up all the reasons why not to do that trade. Speak with most Vancouver fans and Kesler is on the decline. He's had an injury history due to his physical style of play. Vancouver fans claim he doesn't bring that same intensity anymore. Meanwhile Stepan has not had an injury history, he's also not on the decline, and while he isn't as physical as Kesler is/was I think he's a better playmaker. Not to mention that we also are getting older as you said.

Well I wasn't saying it's a good trade, was I? Any deal in which Stepan goes for Kesler is backwards for us! it's that simple. The other pieces I don't really mind parting with, but my only point was the trade wouldn't alter our center depth at all.

I expect Callahan news by 8:30 tonight, one way or another. I think he's gone by then. The team has more needs than just his situation. Stralman, Hagelin, Brassard, Klein, Boyle, Moore, Dorsett... they're all decisions. Not that all will be addressed by tomorrow but i'm sure more than just Callahan will be addressed and Sather will not allow it to affect his ability to make other moves.

It would be really dumb to let this distraction carry on into a game day. Tomorrow's a big game. Toronto's one of teams we're chasing.

As dumb as hurrying a decision that will impact the next 6 seasons because it may affect a single game marginally?

I feel like I raed somewhere earlier that Jordan Staal might be available? That could be worth a look

EDIT: yup - Dreger tweet from before

It was reported by Lebrun, I believe. Said J. Staal a name that is being discussed as CAR wants to cut salary. They just re-signed Khudobin as well, for 4.5M I think.

James Mirtle ‏@mirtle 11s
Coyotes trade David Rundblad and Mathieu Brisebois to Chicago for a second round pick in 2014.

wow BIG overpayment

eh - now that I think about it.....Miller takes Boyles shifts....Kessler takes Step's

still dont like the value at first glance - Step is YOUNG and on the rise...

Boyle overpaid at 1.7m and outplayed by Moore. Kessel is far superior to stepan and like you said miller will play center. We grossly overvalue our players; kessel would be amazing with kreids and Nash. Have to give to get.....

Stepan>Kesler

I think if we trade Step (or Brassard, really) it should be in a package deal for a young player who can be a great Ranger for a decade, not for a marginal upgrade that's going downhill. Maybe I don't mythologize the 1C in the Sky as much as some people do.

Hi, everyone. Posts that only say "This" or "QFT" or only have smileys in them constitute spam. At this busy time, these kinds of posts must be avoided. Thanks.

I think it's more NYR fans hate our own players and would rather have a shiny new toy instead. Some people actually think trading Stepan+ for Kesler would be a good idea.

idk. from what ive seen a lot of ppl actually think kesler is still the kesler from 2011 before the labrum injuries.

I wouldn't do Stepan for Kesler straight up. People ***** about Callahan declining. Here they are wanting Kesler like the same **** isn't happening to him.
