I wouldn't mind stepan+Kristo+Boyle+2nd for kesler. Kesler comes to play where as stepan doesn't always show up and doesn't respond to physical play IMO.

I've already addressed this. Everybody loves to sit back and say, "don't pay him" and then when you ask that person who they'd pay, they quickly shut up and dodge the question.

Why pay for anyone when we can save the money and let a rookie earn the spot?

You could keep him as a rental if you really think this team is competing for the cup, but if you can get a decent return back for him, I think you're better off trading him and building for the next couple of years.

Letting him walk for nothing is not a good thing.

It's a good opportunity to pick up some futures because while I think this team is "Going For It" in the next few years, it will still need young cost-controlled players. One playoff run of Callahan is probably worth more to someone than it is to us.

I'm leaving for Penn Station in like 5 minutes. If something is going to go down, it will be in the next half an hour while I'm underground, no doubt about it.

Stick to your computers, guys.

I like Kesler, but that's too much and really kills our center depth

Oh, I don't know, save the money for the kids in the future? Got plenty of RFA years that will be running out on core players soon. You don't have to spend to the cap every year :)

They're fine with regards to signing the youth. The cap will continue to rise as the player's share increases.

You don't have to spend to the cap every year when you're the gm of the Panthers. If you manage the Rangers and you just sit on cap space, you suck at your job. It's that simple. X amount of dollars in unused cap represents improvements that you could have made that you didn't.

If the average HF boards poster was the gm of the Rangers, we'd go into next season with like 8 million in unused cap and we'd be worse than we are now.

wow BIG overpayment

eh - now that I think about it.....Miller takes Boyles shifts....Kessler takes Step's

still dont like the value at first glance - Step is YOUNG and on the rise...

It does? Boyle isn't likely coming back and Kristo is a winger. Stepan for Kesler is the same number of centers as before. Honestly, I don't care about Boyle, Kristo or the 2nd but Stepan for Kesler is so lateral. Get better but older. Move for the short term.

I would absolutely mind that.

As you should.

Last 3 season's:

Kesler: .65PPG
Stepan: .69PPG

Stepan's going to improve. Kesler will continue to decline. Shocker that this proposal came from the 1 guy here who says he likes Stepan but somehow manages to include him in every lopsided proposal that doesn't favor our team.

#Leafs making calls on Bolland who remains unsigned beyond this yr. The pending UFA's price tag remains over 5m per on long term extension

I wouldn't pay anybody. I would give JT Miller or Jesper Fast the playing time and learning experience. Rather then have Callahan here for another 6 years at that ridiculous price and keeping them off the ice.

I expect Callahan news by 8:30 tonight, one way or another. I think he's gone by then. The team has more needs than just his situation. Stralman, Hagelin, Brassard, Klein, Boyle, Moore, Dorsett... they're all decisions. Not that all will be addressed by tomorrow but i'm sure more than just Callahan will be addressed and Sather will not allow it to affect his ability to make other moves.

You basically just summed up all the reasons why not to do that trade. Speak with most Vancouver fans and Kesler is on the decline. He's had an injury history due to his physical style of play. Vancouver fans claim he doesn't bring that same intensity anymore. Meanwhile Stepan has not had an injury history, he's also not on the decline, and while he isn't as physical as Kesler is/was I think he's a better playmaker. Not to mention that we also are getting older as you said.

Kesler is almost 30.

Stepan is young and will likely continue to improve.

Let's not make this team full of 30+ year olds...I can understand people wanting MSL, but come on.

Why does anybody, at all, propose Stepan for Kesler? It's not much of an upgrade at this point, one is younger, and has room to grow. One is always hurt, and half the player he used to be.

I'd definitely take him but trading Stepan for him is a hell of a lateral move.

I agree that it's too much, but don't think it kills our depth at C. We'd still have Kesler-Richards-Brassard-Moore-Miller.

Understood, but then if Kesler goes down,we are back to Richards as our 1st line center and the rest bumped up a line, and that spells trouble.
