Stastny is their shutdown center though. He plays all the tough matchups defensively. He's better defensively than Duchene or MacKinnon. O'Reilly was moved to the wing because they want to keep Stastny. One player doesn't steer the fate of the team. The Avs were a rebuilding team while he was there; a lack of playoff success does not fall on his shoulders. Who was their D? Who was in net? Varly is only just coming into his own really and wasn't even there the whole time. Stastny is still fairly young and much better than people who just stat watch think. He plays a tough and important role in Colorado. In more offensive minutes here he would produce more.

Not saying I'm for acquiring him, but I hate the uneducated arguments against him.

This is a perfect example of a sickening analysis.

The excuses made for an outsider like Stastny, combined with the venom you've thrown at Callahan.

Both of them are not good options at their prices -- at least one of them bled for the Rangers.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't all the Stastny talk start because we thought we'd be getting Chris Stewart and a pick for Callahan, and then we'd pair Stewart with Stastny because he had his best statistical year with him when they were both on Colorado?

I don't want Stastny. I don't like the fact that our fans will shred any player without knowing anything about them because it suits their argument. Stastny is younger and everything I wrote about him, besides suggesting he would produce more in a more offensive role (which isn't outlandish) is fact based. I also haven't thrown venom at Callahan. I have vehemently said I don't want him at his price and he has begun to slow down. That's not venom. I'm not obligated to want him. I don't want Stastny either. Plus "an outsider"? Callahan isn't a personal friend of mine. I'm a hockey fan. These are my opinions on hockey players. I'm a Rangers fan; the players come and to. They're all outsiders before and after they're Rangers. It's completely irrelevant.

Ive been preoccupied, is the MSL trade still in play or has it been debunked ?

Hasnt been mentioned other than Hags, Kristo and a 2nd rumored to be on the table, but TB wanted a 1st. Have no idea where that is or if thats even a real deal being discussed.

hanks only got a few more years playing at his best mayb 3 more years this is their window to win after that its gonna get ugly with nash hank and girardi getting up there in age:help:

People are talking Stastny because the FA market is ****, it's usually **** so it's no surprise. He happens to be one of the few names out there.

Stastny is a much better option, I don't know how that's "sickening" unless you've taken the trip to the part of the future where we resign Callahan and Richards. In that case, condolences.

I think for what he brings, he's worth that to THIS team.

Funny, I think the exact opposite. He brings 55-60 points, effort, leadership. He's an example-setter. For what he brings, he's worth $6m a year to a team like Edmonton or Buffalo. A team that doesn't spend to the cap ceiling and needs a guy to set a good example for their youngsters. This Rangers team already has example-setters like Girardi, Staal and Lundqvist. They need offense. $6m to Callahan is just bad asset management for a team like the Rangers.

I think it's just because he's probably the top UFA center available, and if we cut Richards we'll need some help down the middle.

By the looks of things, it looks like Stastny began to slow down 5 years ago.

Yeah, that's probably it. We do need C help, but I just don't see Stastny as a #1.

John Mitchell is their checking line center, and they matchup Johnson against top players. MacKinnon get's the favored matchups like Brassard does here.

Paul's effort level went down after getting his security blanket, but hey the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
