does having a guy that can fight hurt a team? DC and DD are midgets and can't win a fight if life depended on it. Having a guy who can throw is great boost for smaller players. Guess Hawks , Bruins , and 85% of the league are wrong by having them guys..
If that guy can't do anything else, yes it absolutely hurts the team.

Fighting does not give guys more space. It has been shown to be negatively correlated to winning.

^^^ I'm guessing not because they blocked out the name of the source

Can any of the mods give me the ok to post the source? They have 19,000 followers on Twitter and is followed by Jim Cerny, Andrew Gross and Nick Cotsonika, for what it's worth.

Just heard back on this... If a source is *****ed out, then it cannot be disclosed on the site. Thanks!

#Rangers Callahan a name out of NYR we've been hearing linked to a lot of trade talk but Derek Stepan getting a TON of interest too #NSS

Reliable?

31 posted that? hahaha

I doubt it, he most likely reads HF boards and saw those posts about trading Stepan.

Imagine you are Luke Schenn. Could you imagine yourself thinking: "Well, I would hit Hagelin here, but Frazer McLaren just beat up Zack Rinaldo so I'll give him his space"?

If you're going to argue that fighting opens up space, you're going to have to give a better reason than it just does.

I would love a blockbuster Callahan + Stepan for someone really good plus 1st. haha

Neither are worth the $$ they want (or will want), so both should go.

Bob McKenzie just did a troll tweet, hahaha

TRADE: Hamilton Tiger-Cats acquire conditional pick in 2015 CFL Draft from Winnipeg for QB Brian Brohm. #anyport #inastorm #Tradecentre

The Rangers are the biggest bunch of sissies on the Eastern conf. They lose to bigger teams because they are out hit and out muscled. I can care less if you like my opinion I have forgotten more about this game then you will ever know. I talk to players and coaches daily ask them about how or what the team is missing most say size and snarl

Agree. They have no guts. McDonagh gets run and they stand around. Nash, IMO is a waste of a big man. He cowers when the game gets physical. We massively overpaid for this guy, who was happy to be a loser in Columbus, he brought his loser mentality to this club.

People won't agree. What ever. But the Rangers will continue to be one dimensional. One dimensional under Tortorella, now one dimensional under Vigneault. Its either all skill, no guts, or all guts and no skill...there needs to be a blend.

Now they are entertaining the idea of signing Callahan to some ridiculous contract...how is this team supposed to improve?

People want St. Louis...it was never going to happen. Boomer was dilusional. And even had we traded for him, we get smaller and smaller. Boston and Philly proved exactly what I had been saying, this team is not a contender and they are too soft.

Add scoring depth and size and grit and then maybe we can talk about them being closer to contender status.

McGinn, Stewart, an offensive defenseman (Vatanen).

Add those three and we can start talking.

Keeping Callahan and keeping the status quo does nothing for this club.

My HFBoardsy Dream Trade has been those two for Yakupov for a while, I'm sure we'd have to sign Callahan/add more to get that done though

Callahan will come down to 6. Sather will say "you're on your way to EastJabib for player x unless you come down to 6 x 6 right now".

Cally won't get that on the open market, and he wants to stay here, so....

God help us.

I know that one deal/trade/signing doesnt make an entire teams future but this one in particular will be bad for this team going forward if they are dumb enough to make it. This team takes a step back for every step forward and im so tired of it.

I will throw a bonanza the day Sather is out of the Rangers organization, and everyones invited. But do our problems really end there? The fact that hes been here for 14 years is the real issue.

size creates open ice. Smaller players have more room when players with size create room.. Yes that means more goals..

But they need to be able to actually contribute to the team, every single one of the player put on the waiver wire is there for a reason and its not because they are doing so well they want to help another team.

John Scott is 6' 8' 270 lbs and I remember him coming to NY and not helping whatsoever

Would not trade Stepan for Yakupov

That's trading from a position of weakness for a position of strength

where is this coming from? I wouldn't either Stepan is a fine #2. Brassard is a great #3 (though I'm still hesitant about giving him 4M for that role), and Moore is a really good #4. We need a #1C to push Stepan out of that spot.

Murray says they haven't have talked about trading Jason Spezza. #Sens

Funny how Dreger jumps on that kind of stuff initially and very vaguely and then someone will shoot it down. Dreger certainly likes click bait.

Are you kidding? You don't remember that time he had a breakaway from center ice in and missed the net by 10 feet? :shakehead

I'm confused. People whine about having no identity, no "plan," but now, having a plan "skill," or "grit," is also bad. If the team doesn't have an obvious dimension that they are best at, they have no plan. If they do have one, they're one-dimensional.

I honestly wonder if there's any way that this team could go about their business that would actually please people around here.

How are they supposed to improve? By young players getting better. Kreider is young. Step is young. Hagelin is relatively young, young enough that he has room to grow. Miller is about to join the team, and he's young. McD is young enough that he's still improving - we saw him add some offense to his game this year. A hartford defenseman will likely break in next year.

Two games prove jack. The team beat Chicago in one game before that and outplayed them almost 60 minutes. Does that prove that they're among the best teams in the league? No. It proves that a small sample size is stupid to base conclusions off of.

Who is going to go to add that depth? Every acquired player comes at a price. Who's getting your Stewart? Who's getting you McGinn? Who's getting you Vatanen?

I agree that Callahan isn't the best idea.
