Are you kidding? You don't remember that time he had a breakaway from center ice in and missed the net by 10 feet? :shakehead

He's quality.

STepan should only be traded for a young center. Package Stepan for an upgrade at C.

You don't trade our acting #1C for a winger when we have good wingers and no real #1C.

with AV the team should be going for skill and talent, not grit.. could we use some players who are tougher? YES.. but they also better be able to damn sure play the game as well and contribute In something other than hitting, fighting and stupid penalties.

Would not trade Stepan for Yakupov

That's trading from a position of weakness for a position of strength

From where they play on the ice, sure. But as far as what these guys can and can't do the team's biggest weakness isn't toffness, it's not being able to capitalize on chances. Rick Nash has never been a "second option" in his career. I think that's a great spot for him on a contending team and that's a lot of why I'm so into MSL. Yakupov obviously isn't ready to take that load off his shoulders yet, but he's the kind of dynamic young gamebreaking talent that never plays for the Rangers. I don't think he'd be easy to get, but with where that team is he's more attainable than he should be.

hindsight is 20/20 but I really wish we would have moved STepan for ROR last season.. ROR is exactly the kind of big, scoring , creative center we lack even if he's technically not a #1 yet.

But they need to be able to actually contribute to the team, every single one of the player put on the waiver wire is there for a reason and its not because they are doing so well they want to help another team.

John Scott is 6' 8' 270 lbs and I remember him coming to NY and not helping whatsoever

DID I ever say the name scott? That was Sather trying to fix Tort running ORR Out of NY.

I'd rather go after someone other than ROR. He's overrated and won't be a true #1C, in my opinion.

You said size creates space on the ice.

He brought up a player with size who contributes absolutely nothing.

Pick an agenda and stick to it, pal! Don't move the goal posts.

Were they offering ROR for Stepan straight up? I don't remember all the rumors. You can't argue with ROR's production this season but in no way is he a "big" center. Same exact size as Stepan.

Me and some friends back in the day use to joke around during the nhl trade deadline by sending trade rumor articles to each other except towards the middle or the end of the article substituting an nHL players name with some one like Mike Piazza or Curtis Martin lol The reactions of "wtf?" were always pretty hysterical.

Product of the echo-chamber.

Never a confirmed offer.

I'm confused. People whine about having no identity, no "plan," but now, having a plan "skill," or "grit," is also bad. If the team doesn't have an obvious dimension that they are best at, they have no plan. If they do have one, they're one-dimensional.

I honestly wonder if there's any way that this team could go about their business that would actually please people around here.

How are they supposed to improve? By young players getting better. Kreider is young. Step is young. Hagelin is relatively young, young enough that he has room to grow. Miller is about to join the team, and he's young. McD is young enough that he's still improving - we saw him add some offense to his game this year. A hartford defenseman will likely break in next year.

Two games prove jack. The team beat Chicago in one game before that and outplayed them almost 60 minutes. Does that prove that they're among the best teams in the league? No. It proves that a small sample size is stupid to base conclusions off of.

Who is going to go to add that depth? Every acquired player comes at a price. Who's getting your Stewart? Who's getting you McGinn? Who's getting you Vatanen?

I agree that Callahan isn't the best idea.

If you honestly believe there is an identity and a plan, i don't know what to tell you, but you would be wrong.

And, so, now there isn't supposed to be a blend of skill and grit? LOL.

What would make fans happy? Competence from the front office.

I'd rather trade Callahan for Mike Piazza right now than give him the contract we're probably about to give him.

it wasn't confirmed, but the rumor when we we were discussing del zotto with Colorado when they couldn't get ROR signed it was rumored they wanted Stepan as well

He will be a Bergeron like player, and if you had him and a solid 2nd center it would work. see Boston

Boston is the blueprint IMO, that's who we should be looking to build a team like.

Avs really have a terrific group of young forwards. They've been helped by picking so high every year but they haven't "missed" on those picks. Even their bottom 6 is solid.

I wouldn't mind that, but we are built closer to Chicago in my opinion.

Boston is a grinding, tough, defensive, blue collar, in your face team. We are a finesse, speedy, smart and skilled team (or at least trying to be).

ROR is fine, but he's not a gamebreaking #1. It would be a slight upgrade at this point, but I think Stepan, when playing well, actually suits us better.

Also, ROR isn't the physical beast that many make him out to be. He plays a softer game then his reputation seems to breed.

I think it may have to do with his grizzly look. The guy really isn't some tough, in your face SOB.

We will be paying our 3rd line something like 14M next season. awesome.. Hagelin (2.5), BRassard (4), Callahan (6+).. fan****ingtastic

Stepan should be untouchable, unless he's bringing back someone like Ryan Johansen, Barkov, Galchenyuk. Other than that, he's staying.

not really "tough" as in your face, tough as in a ***** to play against, he's a damn good defensive center who can shut down the best we play against.

The teams in past years were more similar to Boston than this one.

AV has repeatedly mentioned modeling this team after Detroit, but the Rangers are a ways off from that. Not enough offense from the blueline or above average two-way play from their forwards, nor do they have a Holmstrom or Franzen type that can win battles in the crease.

The Rangers are the biggest bunch of sissies on the Eastern conf. They lose to bigger teams because they are out hit and out muscled. I can care less if you like my opinion I have forgotten more about this game then you will ever know. I talk to players and coaches daily ask them about how or what the team is missing most say size and snarl
DID I ever say the name scott? That was Sather trying to fix Tort running ORR Out of NY.

you were talking about size... John Scott was the most recent example of size that the Rangers picked up. And in response to running Orr out of town, in 2012 the Rangers were one of the toughness teams in the league. They also had the most fighting majors with 65, 4 more then the Bruins.

While the Rangers are sissies the game specifically against the Flyers, the Rangers missed multiple opportunities to put the puck in the net.

Last night while the Rangers lost they were out hit by 1 hit
They also gave the puck away 15 times
And went 1 for 4 on the PP
