I'd rather trade Callahan for Mike Piazza right now than give him the contract we're probably about to give him.

I laughed, then nodded in agreement. What's the difference though; both will end their careers with 5 years of people saying "he doesn't hit like he used to."

Carl Hagelin (2.5M)
Derick Brassard (4M)
Ryan Callahan (6M)

about 13-14M for what should be our 3rd line next season.. that's freaking amazing :sarcasm:

you were talking about size... John Scott was the most recent example of size that the Rangers picked up. And in response to running Orr out of town, in 2012 the Rangers were one of the toughness teams in the league. They also had the most fighting majors with 65, 4 more then the Bruins.

While the Rangers are sissies the game specifically against the Flyers, the Rangers missed multiple opportunities to put the puck in the net.

Last night while the Rangers lost they were out hit by 1 hit
They also gave the puck away 15 times
And went 1 for 4 on the PP

dude, McClaren can handle the puck like Gretzky, don't you know?

SENATORS MAKING CALLS ON SPEZZA
(Mar. 3/14) - A trade isn't imminent, but if the right offer comes across the table, the Ottawa Senators would be willing to trade captain Jason Spezza, TFP has learned

for me, I look at the toughness issue and see it more as a team wide problem/approach to the game.

I could care less about two mindless goons concussing each other.

What I want is a team that looks to initiate contact and not peel off on a guy they can lay a check on.

Stepan, Nash, Kredier, Richards, Brassard, Hagelin, Pouliot.

These guys all would rather peel off an opportunity to hit a guy in the offensive zone.

Kreider was getting there, but seems to have softened in the regards.

When the two guys that initiate most of the contact form the forward position are both well under 6 foot and generously under 200lbs, you are a soft team.

How much damage can Callahan and Zuccs inflict?

You have one guy per line that doesn't initiate contact often, that's passable. When only 2 of your top nine initiate contact consistently THAT is a problem.

the Bruins, when they were forchecking the Rangers in the Rangers zone, were taking the body at EVERY opportunity. The Rangers dont' forecheck like that consistently.

You have to have a desire to play that way. The Rangers for years and years seem to avoid those players.

cause turnovers by seperating man from puck. Not with a purse swinging poke check either.

Agreed, it seemed like after he got a couple penalties that were really borderline because of his strength sending people flying

a lot of times I see Nash do this instead of taking the body and making some contact and the dude is 6'4 over 215.. :help:

Stop coaching Pat Leonard is always communicating with Bartett

Looks like Bartlett gave this to him

It's down to the money.

Ryan Callahan and the Rangers have met in the middle on a six-year term for the captain's potential contract extension, sources confirmed to the Daily News early Monday afternoon, but they remain divided on salary, believed to be at least $500,000-per-year apart on opposite sides of the $6 million annual mark.

$6.5M

Bartlett and Callahan are still waiting for the Rangers response to their offer.

if its down to money, its Girardi all over again. both will conceed a little bit and the deal will be 6 years a tick over 6M..

Interesting so they are 500k apart on opposite sides of the 6 mill mark. To me this sounds like the Rangers are now saying 5.75 mill and callahan is asking for 6.25 or something along that line

Is it fair to suggest Callahan at 6.5m per for 6 years would be one of the worst contracts in the league?

Clarkson at 5.25 or Callahan at 6.5?

Call me crazy, prefer to just keep Richards at 6.6 then sign Cally to that and buy him ouit.

Neither is ideal, but if i had to choose, Richie>Cally.
