These last 2 games should prove to Ranger management that a "go for it" strategy is foolhardy.

They are almost skilled enough, but not nearly big, strong, and deep enough to make serious noise in the playoffs.

Are we ever going to field a balanced team again?

As for McIlrath it really comes down to this:

He's fine as far as how far along he is in his development, but his ceiling is woefully low for where he was drafted. Not his fault. The fact that we drafted to fill a need rather than taking anything close to BPA, and then supposedly expected the player we took to fill a need to take 4+ years to be ready is lunacy. In that time we've had a coaching change, one major trade (Nash), another medium trade (Gaborik), may now trade Callahan, may buy out Richards... In other words, in 2010 we drafted to fill a need and in the time we've been waiting, we've had an entire regime and direction change. Eventually having the privilege of a tough bottom pairing dman with limited upside is never going to be worth the wait.

I really hope we trade Callahan. Even our current offer (6x6) is way too much for what Callahan brings to the table at this point. Yeah, he blocks shots. Good for him, but his behind-the-back "passes"(turnovers) have me pulling out my hair. He's still a decent PP player, but his ES play is atrocious.

I would rather keep Brad Richards than give Callahan that contract, and I think keeping Richards would be borderline insanity.

Oy. It's sounding like they're getting closer. This deal will be so bad.

And Hemsky? So, wait - we're going to sign Cally AND trade for Hemsky?

****, maybe Slats can sell the farm for MSL and we can play SIX right wings at once!

WTF - did we just go from hockey to NASCAR?

If both of these moves go down it will be so freakin classic. Yet again reminding us that they have no clue how to build a winner. No clue.

If a GM could watch the last 2 games and think Ales Hemsky will take us over the top, I'd have to seriously question their mental state.

He's a month from 22... When do u suppose he will BREAK THRU???

Like many D-Men, in his mid-20's.

And he has shown progression, for anyone who has followed the kid.

I'm not in love with the pick to this day, but lets stop acting like he's a failed prospect already.

#NYR Can confirm that Callahan's camp has moved off of initial request of 7 years in terms of contract length. Two sides still apart on $

Both sides will bend.

All of the Callahan people will be happy.

#NYR That development, by the way, is not a new one. Sounds as if it happened prior to the Olympic break, so temper any optimism accordingly

So it was made over 3 weeks ago and it has been leaked in the last 24 hours.

Oh yeah, Cally is so staying. Because progress is not something the Rangers want

The silver lining to this is at least the Rangers are ****ing up with one of their own and not a stranger.

By the end of this contract he'll be as hated as any of the others. I think he'll deteriorate even faster then Drury or Gomez. The only one he'll last longer then is Redden, who basically sucked before even putting on his skates.
