If we give this kid even CLOSE to asking price we'll regret it for years. The original 5 years 30 mil offer we made would have been ridiculous. He's not worth 5 mil honestly and no more than 3 years tops. I personally wouldn't have offered anything I would have dealt him a month ago

There ya go. Maybe the Rangers made an offer they knew Cally would never accept? For appearances sake.

i pray if we trade for st louis Miller isnt going the other way!!

I Cally won't resign here and we won't get a decent offer for him, I don't think it would be horible to move Cally straight up for MSL.

But there is no way I would add to that offer.

I think the best move is to give this group a chance, I think we could become a lot better with just more time under AV with especially some kind of offenisve upgrade on defense. Why? Because I don't think we have any good alternative. If that doesn't work out, we can rebuild for real in 3-4 years. The time to do that is not now.

But the key to that is to be able to really build a team with an identity here in NY. I just can't see how MSL fits into that. I mean, it always take time for any vet to adjust to a new team etc.

I don't necessarily think it would happen and I don't mean it as disrespectful to Callahan, but I would love to see the front office have the stones to say after further thought, we cannot justify our original offer and compensate a player whose expected output won't justify the salary. They need to start running this hockey team like a hockey team and not succumb to the casual fans wishes.

The fact he didn't take the 6x6 and then countered with another equally bad offer really tells me it's all for show and dear lord, sweet mother of god, and all things holy please let me be correct.

6x6 is too much to begin with. 6x6.5 he could probably get in FA, hopefully it's not from us.

I fear they will agree at 6,250x6. Which is a mill and a year more than he should be getting.

His idea of softened is still over/at 6 million and 6 years. No thank you.

The idea of softening is 6 years and about $42M

But the captain, believed to have reduced his asking price from seven years at $47 million to six years at just under $42 million, still too rich for the Rangers, said he hadn’t given that a thought leading into or during the match in which he had one assist, four shots, two hits and a minus-two rating in 17:44.

Callahan and Sather don't want to be the bad guys. Blame the other guy.

I know it's not happening but if we could get gabby back for cheap like Callahan + that'd be amazing.

No it wouldn't.

That would be a major waste of assets.

Another fading RW that is physically incapable of doing what he used to do.

That would be the complete opposite of amazing.

Hard to believe that people still pine for Gaborik, even though he's a shell of the player he once was.

I can only hope this "softening" is for appearances on each side.
"We really tried to get a deal done."

I have a nagging suspicion he will be signed for $6.3M x 6. The Rangers really do t have the balls to do anything different.

At this point, I have to agree, 6-6.5 million for him is ridiculous. I don't know, hopefully we can get St. Louis and if not, then a 1st rounder+roster player

4 years since he was drafted and still isn't ready

And what does that mean?

talk to me if he's not a regular every day defenceman when he's 25 (which for defenceman is still pretty damn young)

Defencemen in general take longer to develope than forwards.

4 years and Dylan not being ready is not even in the top 10 things that are affecting the Rangers right now.

This won't make me feel much better, but is it possible that signing him would be a business move? Maybe there are no moves to be made and it's easier to extend him than to explain to the casual fan that the great captain left for nothing.

Is he a bust? Not yet.

Should we be concerned? Yes.

That would make me feel worse. At least now I believe (perhaps foolishly) that the Rangers goal is to win the cup, even if I don't agree with their methods. However if the Rangers are making decisions based on the easiest explanation to casual fans, then there is no real point in continuing to follow the team.

We've been through this so many times...Staal made the lineup three years after his draft date, McD 3 and a 1/2 years after his, and Sauer was a full five years, and all three of those D-men were much more polished than McIlrath was. The only D-man this team ever rushed was MDZ. But, who needs to look at the evidence...HE'S A BUST!!!! (And, I'm someone who wanted Tarasenko at that spot.)
Agreed on all points including Tarasenko. He'd have a bunch of NHL under his belt already if he were a Sabre or Panther prospect. He'll be fine.
