I prefer seeing Miller getting ice time, especially with MSL.

Kid is going to be good. I really wish there was a way to get him time in the middle. He would be an ideal #3 center, and in the long-term hopfully #2.

I've said this before, but I'll repeat myself. At this point, we should be talking about Brassard's cold streak, not his hot streak.

He played poorly in October and November - which just happened to coincide with the entire team playing poorly and during which time he had all kinds of crappy linemates shuffling on and off his wings. Since then he's had 27 points in 37 games. And, as we all remember, he was gangbusters when he came over post deadline and in the POs last year. So, yes, he had one 24 game COLD streak, but he's been a consistent producer for the other 62 games he's been here, including 12 in the playoffs.

Even if you want to discount the fact that his cold streak coincided with the whole team being screwed up and say he's just plain streaky, that still translates to about a 60 point center, who is also a PPG in the POs.

He's not the solution at 1C by any means, but I'm a fan.

Yet never scored 50 in an NHL season in 6 years. Now numbers aren't the end all be all.

Milan Lucic failed to reach 10 goals in 3 of his first 6 NHL seasons, but I'll have him on my team any day of the week. Take away Brassard's 8 game streak and its something like 25 points in 50 games.

Eh?

Two words - Paul Gustad, just don't feel like llooking up the 1000's of others..

Thank you Jackpot - I'll do some searching. I would be pleasantly surprised if Callahan gets us a 1st. I am skeptical because of the situation. I think teams are aware of the situation and the contract numbers being spoken about. Plus we are trading "our" captain who likely means more to us than to other teams. I am trying to anticipate which teams are a Callahan away from taking the next step. Realistically, he is a 3rd liner on most contenders. Gustad is a center - probably upticks his value slightly?

Or take away a bad streak of his and I'm sure his points per game would look a lot better.

Playing the game of "take away the best/worst stretch of this players season and look how bad they are!" is ridiculous, since most players in the NHL are quite streaky and if you take away their good stretches then of course they're going to look terrible.

It's just a poor, poor argument. Make your argument based on his play on the ice not on how you can deduct points from his total to make him look bad

His play on ice is that he is an inconsistent player. 8 games does not account for enough of a sample size, but 6 years do. My argument is based on that, and not his skill level.

I saw him float around for 40 games this year before picking it up. I want a player that shows up every night. He isn't that guy, because when he is, he is an offensive catalyst.

Gaborik was streaky too, except it was a season to season thing with him and not a game to game or shift to shift.

Plus his cold streaks run longer than his hot streaks.

More of a random musing....

I think there's still upside. And I love the idea of adding some size down the middle.

6 million cap hit, though. We would have to get him a lot of ice time to justify the price tag (cap hit and assets to acquire him).

Maybe I just don't watch enough games. But for the last month I've been amazed at how often hagelin is tossed into trade offers as an extra. It seemed like hagelin was opening eyes in Sochi. I'd rather chalk up whatever disappointment people have or mediocre play from hagelin as a result of missing camp.

Left wing is a big enough hole without tossing away our most proven player as a sweetener. I like msl but not at the cost of proven youth. Make it UFA pending or question marks And I'm on board. Otherwise its not a fit.

Crap, i really hope the Devils didn't get someone like Coyle in return.

EDIT: assuming the deal is real.

So if John Moore gets dealt and Christian Erhoff comes in, that's an upgrade.

Yeah, Erhoff can eat minutes too, but his biggest value add to the team is that he can really help the power play. Rangers would have a top tier shooter and QB in him.

If Del Zotto was a better skater, and had a hard accurate shot, you would get Erhoff. Still prone to the bone head turnover, but another one of those defensemen that is better suited to man defense.

I'm not all about throwing Hagelin in any deal as an "extra".. However, is Hagelin a long term player we should really build around?.. I get MSL is not going to be that either, but if Hagelin is not a long term player, I could see why they would be open to moving him in a proposed deal for St Louis.

Minnesota's GM should be fired on the spot if he did that. Brodeur is maybe worth a 3rd round pick at best. He is bad these days...he's probably not really even any better than calling up an AHLer to fill the backup role

Exactly...but we know Lou and his witchery.

Hagelin is kind of frustrating...for a long stretch this year he looked pretty bad. Not using his speed, not controlling the puck, just invisible out there. Now he's at least skating better but most of the time he's pretty non-dangerous in the offensive zone. I wish he could find a way to get more or better shots on net or something
