Nope. We are all justified in outright hating Glen Sather. He took a golden opportunity and turned it in to a golden shower.

Its ironic that a man who has showed little patience on the job is now in his 70's, 14 years on the job, and hasn't won a damn thing.

This organization will always find an excuse to "go for it," and its killed them.

I like, and don't like the idea of parting with Brassard. Mainly because his QO is going to be $4 million. Is he worth that? Debatable. In the world where the Rangers decide to push for both Kesler AND St. Louis, the biggest pieces we will be losing are the draft picks and Hagelin, not Brassard. That's just my opinion though.

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Richie - Kesler - St. Louis
Pouliot - Miller - Zucc
Carcillo/DD - Moore - Boyle

3C leaves something to be desired. St. Louis makes up for our lack of a pure PPQB on the point. Kesler will win faceoffs. Fourth line can take over games in the playoffs, hopefully.

But can he command big money? He's not scoring at a big money rate. I don't see him getting much of a bump in pay.

CBJ fans love him, I'm not sure he loves it there, but Columbus will make it a priority to sign him, imo.

I agree.

But just look at it. All the firepower is on RW. Weak down the middle, potentially even weaker down the left side.

I'd rather the Rangers take things slow and work towards creating a more balanced lineup.

But hey, this is the Rangers we're talking about. The trade deadline will always be some sort of silver bullet.

Agreed. I mentioned when the MSL rumors first came up that we'd be overloading one position quite a bit, and all three of those players play the exact same spot on the power play. Someone (likely Zucc) is going to have to adjust, or simply be left off of the PP.

I think Hagelin, Kristo and a first is an overpayment for a guy who only wants to come to the Rangers, so I'd be shocked if the first wasn't replaced with a second, or if we didn't get a pretty decent second piece back in the deal.

GregSirico-I will always be a Rangers fan but I'm not going to watch or spend any money on the team if the direction they go is for a trading all their assets for a 39-year-old and a center who is breaking down and while very good, not in the same category as the Crosbys, Toews, Kopitars, etc.

I couldn't stand those teams in the dark ages of 98-04. I wanted a young, hungry team. Every year since the 2004 deadline they've done a good job of that.

They get us excited about prospects, have articles, and a lot of the fun to me is rooting for these kids to crack the roster. That's why I've loved players like Cally and Hagelin. If they're going to trade all of them, why watch? There's no point to it. It doesn't make the team better long term. No vision, no creativity.

I don't want to watch a team of mercanery fat cats. That was the dark ages. If I don't support the product, I'm not going to support the team.

So post 2004...... We had Jagr, Nylander, Nasland, Straka and others that were old and approaching the end if their careers. Every team needs some older veterans on the roster. Not sure your argument holds much water here. We still have some young hungry players as well as other on the farm. If you can trade for a guy like MSL......you go for it. MLS is an anomaly......he's got gas left in the tank for at least 2-3 years.

Ryan Kesler turned down a deal to CLB.

Cam Atkinson rumored to be going the other way.

Callahan says hello... these guys can ask for whatever I want. I think I used the word demand not command, slight difference. But the point stands I think he'll ask for a big raise.

CBJ fans love him, I'm not sure he loves it there, but Columbus will make it a priority to sign him, imo.

This, and it only takes two teams to start a bidding war. He'll have more than that interested in him.

G'morning all, all signs point to today being a watershed moment in NY Rangers history. One of three things will occur today: 1) Ryan Callahan will re-sign with the Rangers for an absurd amount and I will vomit. 2) Ryan Callahan will be traded, which, I'm sad to say, is in the best interest for the Rangers. Or 3) A deal will go down that will change the face of the Rangers (i.e. Kesler).

Should be a fun (and possibly miserable) day!

Tampa has more leverage than has been stated regarding his request to only accept a trade to NY.

He has showed he is willing to play hard for Tampa still. Yzerman would basically be doing him a favor trading him. He has no obligation. The Rangers also would reallllllyyyy like to have him for the playoff push and playoffs this year and Yzerman certainly knows that. Sather is going to have to pay a little, much less than in a bidding war, but still more than we'd like to think.

If they do trade Hagelin and a 1st I really hope that second piece is pretty decent.

Isn't this a post you meant to save for tomorrow? Or did I miss something :)

You used the word demand, I specifically used the word command. As in, will the market dictate his ability to command big money? While free agency in sports is not exactly a capitalist system, aspects of capitalism do exist.

Exactly I said he'll demand big money, or at least a big raise. As far as what he'll command on the open market I don't know. The market will surely change before next off season. I can see him getting a Clarkson contract though.

Today eh,

Just a gut feeling, or something more. Kind of been a last minute thing with Sather. IMO this Callahan thing should have been taken care of day's / weeks ago, not so sure about today, think we're looking at tomorrow as usual and just another long drawn out day as any other. But I am hoping you're right. If Callahan resigns today I'd expect another 5yrs of the previous 5..As an organizational whole that is.. Struggling to get to the dance and leaving early...

Would anyone kick the tires on Jordan Staal?

I posted about it a few pages back. I absolutely would.

He is over his head trying to anchor a scoring line but he is a perfect fit for 3C. Anchor the Rangers' "Bergeron line". Perfect compliment to Step and Brassard anchoring offensive units.

Makes it easier to sign Marc too.

Is there actually smoke behind this or just speculation?

I agree he has more leverage than most people gave credit for, I said as much myself when the MSL rumors first surfaced, but that doesn't mean he has a ton of leverage either. Sure, he can hold onto MSL for as long as he likes, but that never ends well. When a player wants out, they tend to get out, and if they don't then things tend to get very uncomfortable (See: Luongo, Lou).

MSL can play his ass off, but all of his teammates will still know that he wants to move on. That creates a LOT of tension.

More of a random musing....

I think there's still upside. And I love the idea of adding some size down the middle.

Yeah, I would agree to potential locker room issue is the most compelling reason to move him ASAP.

I think he'll need to have some kind of flukey high scoring season like Clarkson did to get a contract like that.
