See, this is what I was talking about with the MSL deal. On its face, if you can get it done for just those assets, it's very appealing value.

But I don't think it gets us over the hump. And then it leads to this Kesler deal. And then to re-signing Cally. And to keeping Richards. Increasingly ugly dominoes.

Seriously. We'd be exactly where Vancouver is now inside of two years.

Richards gets bought out if Kesler and MSL are here. Can't fit under the cap. If it's just MSL, I think Richards stays.

This might be one hell of a deadline:

Hagelin, Kristo, 2nd for MSL

Brassard, Fast, 1st for Kesler.

Only piece I'd miss would be Hagelin... I don't few the other assets as winners, and the Rangers have enough depth from the prospects they attained last off season. (Duke, Buch, Donnay, Allen)

Hagelin is a guy you want in the playoffs. He scored 2 goals in his big outdoor game in college, and was very good during the Olympics. One of Sweden's best forwards, imo.

His loss would be felt.

He 100% did. If it doesn't go down in some form of Cally/MSL deal then he was wrong on that much and should be criticized for it. He still however got the ball rolling on MSL to begin with, so it's not like he will look completely discredited. Just that his source isn't always going to be 100% accurate.

Sources are not always 100% accurate about the details, so that doesn't shock me. But he got the MSL thing right ... way before anyone else did.

Snow - not true at all. You're right. I don't get to games much and I (like the board) see the team for what it is. I am starting to envy the cities that are allowed to ice a hockey team and not a business. Color me naive.

I honestly wonder if his popularity plays a role in this or not. I honestly don't know which reason for this I prefer, Sather being incompetent or Sather not building the team with the team's best interest in mind.

If the below were to happen I'll see you all in five years b/c I'm done with this team. They're going to lose me as a fan until this regime is ousted.

Boomer heard the name Martin St. Louis and wound up sensationalizing the likelihood of a deal happening.

Agreed.

6 assets for a declining centerman and a player approaching 40.

This is the answer?

So you would stop being a fan of the franchise because they trade Hagelin, Brassard, and Fast (who hasn't played one NHL game)?

I guess perhaps if the Hagelin / MSL deal has any legs, it might be because the Rangers are planning to recoup assets with a Callahan trade. I.e., they wanted a roster player back for Callahan, but cannot find one; Therefore they're okay moving Kristo and a pick because they're getting a prospect and a pick back for Callahan.

If I read it correctly, Dagoon speculated that there would be a prospect coming back our way as well? If I counted correctly, they have 49 players under contract right now.

So we'd be looking at:

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Miller - Richards - MSL
Pouliot - Brassard - Zucc
Carcillo - Moore - Boyle
Dorsett

As lousy has Hagelin has been for the last couple months, I'd be hard pressed to say that lineup is a downgrade, at least on paper, from what we have now.

I'm not a fan of the Kesler rumor. I like Brassard a lot ... but a trade for St. Louis I am all for if all we are losing (really) is Hags. I like Hags but ... I am comfortable dealing him for 2/3Y of MSL.

Hopefully not, but what does Sather owe this organization that requires him to set it up going forward, rather than going for it now?

As scary as it is, it is a real possibility. Hopefully he isn't making all the decisions himself.

He also left himself some big outs, eg injury, change in contract demands.

I agree.

But just look at it. All the firepower is on RW. Weak down the middle, potentially even weaker down the left side.

I'd rather the Rangers take things slow and work towards creating a more balanced lineup.

But hey, this is the Rangers we're talking about. The trade deadline will always be some sort of silver bullet.

Ah, did he? My apologies. Had no idea. *hangs head in shame*

While Callahan was out.

However, I don't think that directly demonstrates his value as much as how he has played down in Hartford since. He will be on this roster sooner rather than later. (Unless there is no room for him and in that case he will be moved potentially. A distinct possibility if they get MSL. Nash, MSL, Zucc = no room for Fast at RW.)

Take away Brassard's hot streak and you see what he is. You don't win with guys like him. Sam Gagner and Brassard aren't too far off from the mold of players you don't win with.

In my fantasy world, he owes the organization a route that learns from the mistakes of the past.

If he was so concerned about building a legacy here, he should've thought about that 14 years ago. He was going for the shortcuts and quick fixes all the way back then. Am I supposed to continue to excuse that just because hes an old man now?

Would any of you consider the possibility of signing FA Brandon Dubinsky at the end of next season if Callahan is gone, as almost a less expensive pseudo replacement?

Nope. We are all justified in outright hating Glen Sather. He took a golden opportunity and turned it in to a golden shower.

He'll demand big money, and I'm not entirely sure he's over getting traded.

GregSirico-I will always be a Rangers fan but I'm not going to watch or spend any money on the team if the direction they go is for a trading all their assets for a 39-year-old and a center who is breaking down and while very good, not in the same category as the Crosbys, Toews, Kopitars, etc.

I couldn't stand those teams in the dark ages of 98-04. I wanted a young, hungry team. Every year since the 2004 deadline they've done a good job of that.

They get us excited about prospects, have articles, and a lot of the fun to me is rooting for these kids to crack the roster. That's why I've loved players like Cally and Hagelin. If they're going to trade all of them, why watch? There's no point to it. It doesn't make the team better long term. No vision, no creativity.

I don't want to watch a team of mercanery fat cats. That was the dark ages. If I don't support the product, I'm not going to support the team.
