Tampa is looking at Plekanec as per TSN Radio. Why? They have like 9 centres. Lol

They have guys listed at C on HockeyDB that are not actually centres for them. I believe they often roll 7 defencemen and that their top 2 Cs are Stamkos and Point. Matthew Peca is their 3C and he’s a rookie. It makes sense for them to want a vet like Plekanec who fits their fast team.

Of course I don't know what he will bring in a trade. However I think it's pretty safe to say the return will not be a 23 year old top pairing D. That would be insane value wise and the team dealing that D would be making themselves worse because 22 minutes from a top pair D is worth more to a team than Patches right now.

I think a 1st an NHLer and a top prospect is more than reasonable and I'm not downplaying patches in the slightest. I was just responding to the fan who through Lindell name out as the possible "NHL player" when realistically Dallas wouldn't trade Lindell for Patches straight up

When GMs are bidding in an auction-style short term window, nothing is safe. We've seen returns that run the gamut. If it were that predictable, we'd have most deals guessed out. Irrational exuberance can produce the most surprising outcomes.

If Pacioretty on his own can't fetch a top pairing D, then adding to him will get the job done. However, I'm not even certain they're looking to add a D first and foremost. They may vye for a top 6 center and add a D in the summer. We'll see.

You can never have too many centers. Plekanec would be a very nice addition to pretty much any playoff team, which is why I believe we should be getting a 2nd rounder minimum for him.
2nd rounder minimum?

Damn....what's the max then? More than Pacioretty?

You know that Pageau is on the trade block do you? Why would team sacrifice a 2nd round for Plecky rather than a guy that has been exellent during playoffs?

Habs play-by-play radio broadcaster, Martin McGuire, with his take on what he's seen and heard this past week-end, during a segment on CKOI:

TRANSLATION: We know that Bergevin is actively seeking to add either a center or a defenceman: "There are 3 teams that have each dispatched two representatives for the Habs's two games this past week-end: the Jackets, Flames and Coyotes" says McGuire. "The Flames are probably the team that sends the most reps at Hab games. We know that Jack Johnson is available from the Jackets. In respect of Arizona, Oliver Ekman-Larsson is on the market and could be the left defenceman that fits with Shea Weber", says McGuire.

He also added that a Habs ex-first-rounder in 2007 (12th overall) could return with the team that drafted him and rumor has it that Max Pacioretty could be attractive in a trade. "The Rangers are open to listen to offers for Ryan McDonagh" says Mcguire who has the impression that Marc Bergevin is in the process of "causing the market to shift".

Plekanec has a higher PPG in the playoffs, much more experience and is a much better defensive player than Pageau. Those are facts. Plekaenc being bad in the playoffs is overblown. He is not a 1c and was matched up against the other teams best game after game in the playoffs.

What a dumb response. It obvious that Pacioretty is worth more than Plekanec. Were you hoping for a 2nd for Pacioretty?

McDonagh for Pac ?

Eeeeeee... not sure I'd like that, not in that trainwreck...

So, seems like Bergevin still thinks we can get into playoffs ! :scared:

Clearly...that went right over your head.

the poster I responded too said he expects that Plekanec can fetch at least a 2nd rounder at minimum, which implies they could get much more for him.

Now, we've all talked about what Pacioretty can get and the general consensus here seems to be something around a top prospect + 1st round pick + another player or draft pick.

Now maybe it's just me, but I think the value between Pacioretty & Plekanec is much greater than that difference.

Perhaps you feel differently.

Yeah, I have nothing against Plecky but, Pageau is known to be a hard-working guy and can play winger or center depending in which situation that you are in.

Last years Playoff for example, you take off Pageau and I don't think they get eliminated by one lucky goal by the Pens but, way before that.

Bergevin should focus on CHL age players and draft picks.

Absolutely, but, well, I'm a bit scared of what he might actually pull out. Might gut out picks in favor of 'playoffs depth' or something stupid like that...

Damn we really need to lose our next few games, for the sake of our future...

Agreed. I hope this McGuire guy is dead wrong.

He's quoting rumors but appears to be relying too heavily on which teams are dispatching the most scouts as the basis of his "analysis". Scouting attendance is routinely published online, you don't need to be broadcasting at a Habs game to know that. Plus, we've seen all too often how scouting attendance is not necessarily indicative of a likely deal -- most if not all of Bergevin's trades have not been predictable.

He's quoting rumors for which he's not providing sources. He didn't have to name his sources but could have added how he got the info, like you see Friedman or LeBrun do, when they attribute information to unnamed scouts or GMs they have spoken to.

What would you think of a MaxPac for OEL deal?

Couldn't see either team making that deal 1 for 1.

McGuire also reported that Radulov coming back was a done deal last summer.

He always chimes in with rumors this time of year but can't remember Martin McGuire breaking anything.

Jack Johnson is the type of defenceman I can see Bergevin stupidly liking even though he's not good but he's an expiring contract and a pending UFA, I don't think even Bergevin's dumb enough to trade for him in the middle of a dead season.

Any Pacioretty deal has to bring back at least the start of a solution for our C problems, i.e a legit top 6 center prospect. Anything short of that and we've wasted the opportunity, yet again. A McDonagh return would have me throwing stuff at my TV screen in rage. I'd rather wait and test the market for Max Pac again next year if that's the case.

With OEL and domi rumors... doesnt make sense for either team, but what if chayka knows oel wont resign... isnt high on domi, thinks chychrun can step up and take 1LHD

Pacioretty, galchenyuk vs OEL and domi

I know its a realy wierd trade but if both GM think it could balance their team...
