As much as I love Anderson and think he’s a necessary piece for our small/soft forward group, I’d make that deal.

It fills the Flyers needs up front, getting two pieces that help immediately, while still getting a late 1st and shipping out JVR’s cap.

The Habs would then be able to move up and grab one of the top young defensemen (I prefer Jiricek), and could play JVR until the deadline where they could retain to max out a return, ensuring that they would once again be in the running for 1st overall in 2023, the year of Bedard, and have numerous assets/picks and free cap space to continue building a powerhouse.
Flyers: Anderson ($5.5 x5), Petry ($6.25 x3)
Habs: 5OA, JVR ($7 x1), Ristolainen ($5.1 x5)

Habs can flip JVR at the deadline.

Yeah, these are great deals for us.

But not the Flyers. If they're using the 5th overall pick to make a splash and get a good piece now, it's not to get Josh Anderson and/or get rid of a bad contract. It's to get a player like PLD or Laine.

I think we need to target both Dallas and Philly hard.

I'd love Petry to Dallas for the 18th.

Then....if we can't match Philly's ask for 5th....and they think that they are going to be competitive next year....we need to take a swing at their confidence and gamble for their 2023rd pick.

Anderson + Montreal's 2023rd second for unprotected Philly 2023rd 1st.

Is Philly willing to bet on themselves? If they are, this deal could be something like 2023 29-32nd overall for Anderson + 2023 33rd overall. A huge win for Philly.

If the Habs think that Philly doesn't quite have it....they may get another shot at a lottery pick for Bedard. A Huge win for the Habs.

I think he goes to LA - the Kings were one of the teams that had reportedly inquired about him last year, there’s the Bergevin connection (and look how Danault has prospered there!) and I think he fits perfectly on their second pair… which really seems to be his niche - an elite second pairing defenseman.

I’d say the Kings would offer their 1st this year, and Brendan Lemieux (a player that Gorton acquired when he was in New York).

The Kings have a plethora of good young prospects already so losing their first this year for an established second pair defenseman isn’t a big price… and I picked Lemieux because he’s an RFA and I want to see the chaos that he would bring. Him vs Tkachuk multiple times a year would help ease the loss of Chiarot who hated both of the Tkachuk brothers equally.
I don’t mind having another nasty fella on the Habs. Nice lineage, same type player as Dad, interesting take !

Better odds that the Flyers, with Torts as HC, trade their 5OA for Byron or Armia then for PLD or Laine :biglaugh:

Some people really overrate the value of Anderson and Petry in this thread...
Haha it's interesting seeing the kind of comments and proposals for Anderson in the main trade board vs. in here. I think it's probably in the middle somewhere - leaning in the habs fans direction but only because Hughes is magic.

I expect Fletcher will go hard after Anderson who Torts absolutely worshipped during his time w CBJ

I would love that. Do you know which realistic pieces (not the 5th overall pick) we could get from philly?

Though Torts MAY still like Anderson, Fletcher also has to like him...

I don't think Winnipeg is trading PLD, an established PF for a maybe.....same with CBJ.....why would they trade a 24yr old 40+ goal scorer for a maybe?

If those players want out/there's too big a gap in contract negotiations.

Philly don't have any cap space and they already have a tons of wingers and many on heavy contract.
We can't help them with that cause one big reason to trade a guy like Anderson would be to get that cap space.

A trade the would fit for both teams would need serious cap gymnastic.

One team I don't see mentioned anywhere is Nashville.
They have tons of Cap, they are ready to push and whatever names mentioned in the rumors...they could use, especially if they are not able to resign Forsberg.

Anderson loved Torts as well and played his best hockey under him.

It would only be for 5th overall or I'd never do it....and that's ONLY if Jiricek is there.

be like

Anderson+Struble+3rd round pick

for

5th overall

If they want to hang up the phone, so be it.....I'm not giving up a 6'3 PF for their junk

If those players want out/there's too big a gap in contract negotiations.
Ya, I get it, but for Laine, it's 5th overall plus a few more pieces.

same with PLD......also, Imagine trading 5th overall for PLD only to see him walk because he doesn't want to play for Torts....again lol

What are the odds that JVR has value at the trade deadline?
Depends. At 50% retained, he has value, but you can only retain on 3 players and the Habs already have 3 overpaid UFAs (Drouin, Byron and Dadonov) they will probably want to move. That is if there is no retaining on Petry already...

Also, it cost the Leafs a 1st (top 10 protected) to move Marleau with a $6.250m cap hit and similar production to JVR back in 2019. So Philly 5th oa + JVR for Anderson would actually mean Anderson's value isn't that high since he's would only be used to cover the gap between 10th oa to 5th oa...and JVR cap hit is $7m.

And many overrate the value of a 1st round draft pick..
Of a top5 pick?

We will get a return a la Toffoli for Anderrson. not a top5 pick..!

I suspect Torts was a Bobby Clarke pick, and Fletcher is living on borrowed time as GM

You're not getting the 5th overall pick for Josh Anderson. Won't happen. If Philly has nothing else but junk, they're not a good trading partner. But they may have something else.

I'd definitely take a top 10 protected 1st in next year's draft.

You can't be serious?!

Unless we can get our hands on the top D guy HUGU like the most I just dont why we would pay up to try to get another pick in the top of this draft.

No chance do I do it for Slaf. But if we can grab a top 6C in Wright, and grab a potential no.1 D ( without giving up our key young guys or next years 1st ) then I could see why we would want to try it. I just don't think the Jackets 6OA pick will get us either of those D.
