Yup Dubois would be nice but mostly depends on his contract. He doesn’t deserve close to 7 million and he will be a winger here.

Well, he's making 6.2M$ this season, he's already close to close to 7 millions.

Oh bloody heck, now the PLD stuff will add to our circus.

I give it to PLD that he has given the Jets the heads up. Good of him to do that. I could see a team that could use PLD and his 60 points right now for a Cup run trading for him and then seeing if he will sign long term after this season. For a team like that it may be worth the risk of him not resigning.

We aren't that team. Not interested.

He's apparently wants to get to UFAcy. Of course giving assets to acquire a UFAcy-headed Dubois at this juncture is completely stupid. He'd possibly be a great add to this team two years from now.

I would 100% look to sign Dubois when and if he hit's UFA status. If he comes in at a fair deal. I do that.

Bro tank for Bedard now and sign Dubois next year. He would fit in real nicely and give us that added size and grit in the top 6. We can move a center to the wing.

Edit: I thought he only had 1 year left as an RFA.

PLD announces he will test Free Agency in.......2 years? Talk about the earliest drop of that ever for a player. Clearly he is trying to get Winnipeg to trade him.

If I'm the Habs I steer clear until 2024. Make a move then, when he is 25.

Still good. The question also isn't only about which players were selected, but which players were realistically available. Markar and Heisekanen were, So was Draisaitl. You also made a mistake, it was Laine, not Dubois. I would think if the team makes a deal like that they've identified a player worth trading up for.
I picked 10 draft years meaning possibly 10 different clubs made those choices. You're assuming this scouting staff will have a better batting average than the previous 10 teams. Do I need to remind you of KK and Galchenyuk? Bobrov is basically in for half of Timmins so it's the same old gang and Bobrov has had a worse drafting record than Timmins. We had two 3 OA picks and they both turned into dust.

Also if Primeau develops into a prime starter it won't look that good. It may for another team but not for these Habs. With Price almost gone, we really have no one else close to filling in that #1 starter.

Draft picks are extremely overrated on this board. Most posters look at 2nd OA pick and think Barkov or Schenvikov (or Laine) and forget about the other 7 picks.

We’re doing “discard for Bedard”. Please take note of the lingo.

I think he'll go to jersey or the Flyers for their top 5 pick.

Wonder if the hawks would move Debrincat for him?

I wouldn't trade for Dubois unless it doesn't cost a lot. I will try hard to sign him in free agency.
He could be our equivalent of the rangers signing Panarin when rebuilding.

Ya that should be the play. Of course signing Huberdeau would be better, but Dubois could be a solid backup option. If he's stupid cheap, I'd go for him but we can afford to wait at least another year.

so he wants to test free agency? so the jets keep him in a lame duck situation for two years? I can't imagine anyone overpaying for him if they know he walks in two years. I have to think a team desperately in need of a C like NYR or Ott (not a big market but close to home) - even Boston will go all in with an overpay if they can get him on a sign and trade. i'm not sure he makes it to free agency if he can somehow control his movement

Completely useless to trade for Dubois at this moment.
We are finishing bottom 10 again easily next season.
in 2024 means in 2 years where i think habs will start winning a bit more if the process is going well , then proceed to drop money for Dubois and im not talking north 6m a year. He's no game breaker

If we can get him as a ufa, then sure..

But why does he want out of yet another franchise? Does he want to play in a big market? Does he want to ensure he joins a contender?

His value is still not very high. He’s worth more on the team than in a trade

Not sure what his value is but to a team like the Devils, it might be higher than other teams. I read a rumor the other day that the Devils are high on Primeau. True or not? Not sure.

Are you going to complain if we are able to get #2 OA and it takes Anderson, Primeau, and the Flames 1st?

Anybody see the latest news on PLD? He is going to force his way to UFA. 2 more RFA years I believe. He'll be a 26 year old UFA.

PLD wants to play in Montreal. Other teams can go ahead and trade for him... he'll force his way to UFA regardless. I'm guessing here but I think he thought the Habs would trade for him from the Blue Jackets and I believe we tried but we didn't have a Laine to offer. Then fast forward to the series in the playoffs (Jets/Habs) and he looked uninspired that round.

Yes, it's what my gut is telling me.

If the Panthers end up trading Bob at 50% retention, this helps our probability with their 1st slipping. Doesn't turn the needle that much cause they still have Knight but if they have both and one gets hurt, they are still strong.

All it takes is a injury riddled season and they do happen from time to time. Barkov, Knight (Bob Traded), and Huberdeau will do it. Also, Ekblad hasn't played a full season in a while so who knows what he does this season.
Wishful thinking yes but with one good goalie vs two, it helps our chances

The Habs don’t need PLD.
People gushing over Staf as a potential LW to Suzuki/Caufield but PLD is already as good as I'd hope Staf to be.

Well Fox let Canes know and he eventually got traded to Rangers (where he wanted to sign). Would be cool if a Montreal GM could manage to be on the receiving end of this type of situation.

Jets may have another Trouba on their hands. PLD has two more RFA years then UFA. If any team tries to trade for him, they will likely want to talk extension and if he and his agent show signs of not wanting to sign, he value goes down.

Trouba had 50th in his last season with the Jets. I think the return was Pionk and the 20th pick? If it's a similar situation, we can offer something like Dvorak and the Flames 1st and maybe the Oilers 2nd. Or we just wait for him to reach UFA.

I think PLD would be a good add to this core.

Yup, Fox and Trouba are good example. Jets got Pionk and the 20th pick for Trouba. Dvorak and Flames 1st or let them drown with trade talk with other teams cause he will refuse to sign with them. No team is going to dig and give full value when they know he will walk in 2 years.

My gut tells me his heart is in Montreal and he wants to grow with this core. I think he will be a good add.
