A bottom team might eventually be but we will have to pay for it. Like Weber + 1st for an AHL player like Xavier Ouellet.
We won't get much in return but we won't need to add that much, the cap floor team they want to reach the floor without having to paid any money, that probably more valuable to them than the LTIR for us.

What would it cost to get Kieffer Bellows from the Islanders? 23 years old, Left Wing, son of Habs great Brian Bellows, but hasn't really lived up to expectations yet. I like his game and think he'll get there in time.

They are still on the hook for ±24M$ it is just going to be over ±3 years regardless of how many years was left on the contract, 7.8M$ for 3 years isn't as bad as 24M$ for 1 season but 7.8M$ of dead space isn't great either, but there was no way he was retiring early, +there will always be a capfloor team willing to acquire that contrat so NSH never really had to worry about the cap recapture anyway.
thing is, its players decision to retire, not teams, so wether he's officially a Habs of a Preds, if Weber wants to retire nothing can be done about it. so the Preds are not going to pay a premium in the shape of picks/prospects just so he can retire a Preds you know...

now if he's on LTIR until retirement, he has no value at all, as LTIR $ do not count against the cap.

It counts against the cap, you just can go over the cap by that amount if you need to.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:
come on ! a first...
Weber has a cap space of 7,85m $ but in fact he will gain a total of 6 m$ for the left of his contract. ( 3-1-1-1m$ or something like that)
It's exactly the kind of contract that low budget teams love

I might be wrong but i think LTIR count against the floor cap.

why do people keep talking about this cap recapture bs. Nothing will come of it. We arent blackmailing the Preds into some massive return. Weber will spend the rest of his contract on LTIR and at best, some team will trade for his LTIR contract , similar to Horton, Hossa, etc.

No professional NHL executive in any position of power would blackmail another team like that, that is a sure fire way to get blacklisted by every other NHL team GM.

This is not some wonderland here. lol
Weber be good for team like Arizona to reach cap floor without actually paying him. We might get a throw in back. Ask for our 2nd in 2024 back

You play GM? Would you retain 50% on our vets to acquire more assets in trade? Or just dump the contracts? Somebody like Petry at 3.1 million should have high value.

Also, Allen at 1.4 million should bring interesting return.

If we did deal Allen, would you take on goalie with bad contract for a first pick? Short term bad, like 2 years.

If Chariot gets you a first round pick would you want it this year or bite the bullet for a year and ask for a 2022 first round pick?

Depends on who they're trading with and what type of protection is on the pick.

No team will be giving up a future 1st for Chiarot, it would have to be for this year

Okay, why?

A team could well give a future 1st round pick for Chiarot, but I doubt they give a future 1st round pick that isn't draft protected. The risk would be much greater.

Whichever team acquires Chariot at the tdl will be in a playoff spot. At that point 3/4 of the season would have already been played and the team will have a good idea of where their 1st round pick will land (bottom 10, mid, or late).

Thats a big reason why a lot of teams are willing to trade 1st round picks at the tdl, but not during the offseason.

If a team had the choice between trading a basically guaranteed late 1st round pick or a complete mystery of a 1st round pick (even if top 10 protected), they will easily go with the former.

Makes perfect sense, but, in a bidding war, teams can be swayed. I don't think Chiarot is. a God send of any kind, but if he's the desired addition du jour, a bidding war could occur and anything is possible.

Even in a bidding war, teams will just add a mid round pick to up their package.

I dont think there is any past example of a good team trading (during the reg season) their 1st round pick of the following year when they still own a 1st round pick in the current year.

Could be a stretch, even if anything is possible.

just want the process to start already. lol
get a GM
start making moves
give us hope with young prospects

It has already started. Gorton is the GM and any new person would likely be in training with Gorton calling the shots. Moves will be made when the time is right and when he thinks The Habs will get the most in return.

They already have many good prospects and a likely top 5 pick coming up. Lots to look forward to.

I believe Chiarot will net us a late 1st (2022) and a 2nd tier prospect. The quality of that 2nd tier prospect will likely depend on that potential bidding war and of course Gorton’s evaluation.
