Unless Larkin forces his way to Montreal, I don't think it will happen. Detroit is going to ask their division rivals to overpay for a 30 year old player, and I don't see us doing that.

The Knies trade is just a result of the Toronto media making the Leafs the main character of a story they aren't part of. So don't worry about it.
Pelly made the weird comments and Hughes hit them at the knees with the Marner comments. I think that ship has sailed and for all we know, it might not have happened, just a guy posting it for views/clicks.

Not sure if giving that much for Knies would have been a good idea. Would have been a bummer to lose Zharovsky before being able to see how he develop. But would have made the second line much better right away

While I agree about Zharovsky, Knies is still 23 and has 5 years left on his deal @ $7.75M.

On a shit Toronto team, he still had 66 pts (23G, 43A) in 79 GP. The year before he had 58 pts (29G, 29A) in 78 GP.

So Knies would be able to come in and help right away while at the same time be young enough and signed long enough to become part of the core.

As far as Larkin goes wonder what that means for Yzerman and do they let him trade him.
Yzerman was already on thin ice with 7 years of no playoffs now basically running off the heart and soul of your franchise that can't bode well for him.
I do think he would entrain coming to Montreal for the simple fact that he probably wants to win and Montreal has a great winning culture right now. He knows he would be stepping into a great dressing room with a serious GM and a great group of guys. If he didn't care about that he would stay at the Country Club Red Wings and let Stevie Y continue to run the team into the ground year after year.
If Detroit moved on from Yzerman its possible a rebuild trade could be done. If they want Hage +1st + some other pieces ya I def think about doing it and lean towards yes.
If Yzerman sticks around its a hockey trade. Knies for Larkin ? Why not. Detroit gets a premier powerforward and Toronto gets a C to play with GM. Opens it up for them to move Matthews as well.
Larkin and 2028 1st for Tavarese and Knies.
Toronto gets a 1st pick that could very well be a lotto pick and Yzerman gets to pretend he is making Detroit competative before they choke away a playoff spot in the last month of the season.

Not sure they would have him spend the summer with Demidov to build a relationship with him if they were planning on trading him. That kinda indicate that they plan on him being a big part of the team in the near future.
I think Demi and Zharovsky are childhood friends and are just training together this summer. Don't think the Habs are forcing them to be together or anything. Not saying they will trade him but, if they're swinging for some homeruns this summer, hard to see him being safe.

can Zhar change his mind and stay in canada

f***. Knies is perfect for Demidov.

Could you imagine it went through. Now with the new GM it’s never gonna happen, f***

Could still happen. It will depend on what the leafs want to do. Do they want to rebuild/retool or compete now. If its the former, then that trade should still interest them.

The habs though might not be as interested anymore. There wasn't a top 6 C available at the tdl, but there could be some right now. They will likely prioritize giving up those assets mentioned for a top 6 center than for Knies.

I like Knies but that's an incredibly heavy price when we still need other pieces with him
Way, way too much to pay. Knies would have made little difference against the tidal wave that was the Hurricanes. But for Dobes’ brilliance, the series’ result would have been even more embarrassing than it was. The only reasonable way to bridge the gap between us and the contending teams, is internal growth/improvement. You can’t trade your way to contender status.
