HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread: From Here to Free Agency

Larkin is awesome, but he’s always given me bad apple and diva vibes.
He’s gives me a poor man Mackinnon vibes where he works harder than he should cause he doesn’t utilize his linemates and it’s always someone else’s fault

Plus in the All Star games he’d never pass to Suzuki :sarcasm:

As others have said if the supply can move up a little hopefully price comes down a bit for someone who would waive to come here

I don't think that price for Knies is as bad as people think. We are talking 2 picks in the mid to late 20s, Zharovsky and probably Engstrom. I do that all day. We get 2 elite young PFs in Slaf and Knies.

But yeah, Pagnotta is a sketchy source.
If Hughes does that trade it means during his tenure he will have traded more first round picks than used. That is an organizational disaster that will show up in 5 years from now. Sounds very Leafs -like.

He's traded 1st round picks for guys in their early to mid 20s that could be here for our entire contention window. He didn't trade them for guys in their 30s. Not anything like the Leafs.

Larkin boys....how do we feel about him. I'm not crazy about him as a player but as a 2C I think he'd fit great. 31 years old not too bad either.

I don't know if we are good trade partners tho it really depends what direction Yzerman goes from here. Do they take a step back and try a little re-tool? I think Habs can be a good trading partner there despite the divisional rivalry. But if Yzerman still plans to make playoffs next year then there are probably better trade partners.

I like Knies but that's an incredibly heavy price when we still need other pieces with him
But it gives all an idea of where this organization is going: futures are ok, but they will be used in trades to bolster this lineup.

If that deal would have went down, Knies would have valuable during those playoffs. Very. We would have disposed of Tampa and Buffalo much quicker. Knies is a heck of a player. He answers all of our needs on the Demidov line. Now, might as well forget it; this deal was probably shot down by Pelley.

29, will be 30 in 2 months.

For 2C next to Demidov, he's perfect

I agree. although i would be totally fine giving up those two first + for Knies if it meant keeping Hage, Zharo and Reinbacher. Thats enough young talent to paliate to the lack of firsts in the coming years

Way, way too much to pay. Knies would have made little difference against the tidal wave that was the Hurricanes. But for Dobes’ brilliance, the series’ result would have been even more embarrassing than it was. The only reasonable way to bridge the gap between us and the contending teams, is internal growth/improvement. You can’t trade your way to contender status.
Hard disagree. Knies IS a first rounder, a power forward en devenir, and only 23. He would have helped in taking care of Tampa and Buffalo much quicker.

He would have fit in the core perfectly at his age and contract. It would have been a Dobson-type trade for a very good 2nd line forward. This kid is good.

knies would have made huge difference in the earlier series, which might have translated to more energy vs the canes. however still would need the 2nd C

If the trade for Knies, whatever package was offered, was really nixed, it’s a shame. The only player right now that I would want from Toronto is Knies. He would have fitted soooo good with our team. And still very young. Ouch.

Young power forward with size and grit and hands. Much untapped potential and would thrive in our system.

I can understand why Fig upper management shot it down, knowing Trieliving was getting the boot! I mean, the kid is good and valuable. This trade is dead now. Shame.

He’s also traded for more 1st and 2nd round picks than any GM in our history plus who needs 1sts when you can get Zharovsky and Hutson in the 2nd?

Old MB missed on 7 x 1sts in a row (I’d give him Sergachev but he dealt him for JD) while we remained 1/2 pregnant cause trades are hard

I don't believe it for a second. Knies is a ridiculously overrated player with terrible on-ice metrics and buying high on a player from a divisionaal rival (and especially with a relatively underrated asset in Zharovsky) would be the complete opposite of what we've see this management do over the past years
Well, this is not the first time a Toronto beat writer mentions this trade (although not this specific package). Friedman and Dregger did allude to this when the ‘trade’ was stopped in its tracks. So yes, there is interest in Knies. And after seeing this year’s playoffs, I can understand why.

Does texier have a no trade cause or something that I am not aware of?

I just dont understand how this could be viewed as a negative based on his small cap hit/term and play to date.
We extended him for 2 years so we could trade him lol. The mental gymnastics to try make this move seem less stupid. There was no reason to do it.
