HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread: From Here to Free Agency

We extended him for 2 years so we could trade him lol. The mental gymnastics to try make this move seem less stupid. There was no reason to do it.

He was signed for 2 years by St. Louis before they let him go, no sure where is the issue here. Anyone signed on such a short term should be considered placeholder.

This is truly bizarre. Its equivalent to an 800k salary coming out of the 04 lockout.

I never said he should be traded at this time. Hes done well here. I only asked if he has a ntc because if they want to move him, it shouldnt be hard otherwise.

What about a small term small cap hit contract triggers you so much especially for a guy who lived up to it? What about that cap hit and term tells you he isnt expendable?

Not the perfect example but when the Habs acquired he was a ufa at the end of the year and the signed an extension for 6 years.

Yeah, I erased it.....he's a Canadian
You think Gionta was overpaid?

Ishh, if you have to go back 17 years to find one......kind of prove my point.
In those CAD and USD were pretty much equal too

Boys he's not gonna waive for Canada

Not necessarily. His father is Canadian - born & raised in Scarborough. He left for a university scholarship in soccer at University of Southern Indiana & stayed in US. His mom, Dylan's grandmother, still lives in Toronto.

It's likely he stays in US, but you never know.

we secured a very good 4th liner for almost min wage because he wanted to stay here. look what those players will go for on july 1st and lets revist.

Wideman? Thompson? Gilbert?

I'm not really sure how that proves a point. Montreal hasn't really signed a UFA for the NHL team in 5 years, and there aren't that many players of any nationality that came to Montreal in free agency without playing here first or being largely overpaid. Overpaying guys is a thing that happens to get guys to come to a mid team willingly, regardless of nationality.

Zharovsky, two 1sts, (and Engstrom?) is fair value for Matthew Knies.

Its a lot to give up, but its what you would expect someone like Knies to get. He could be a ~ppg powerforward next year playing with Demidov.

The important issue it that its a lot of good assets to give up for a non-center forward, but if the plan is to have Hage center that line, then it makes sense.

Knies - Hage - Demidov

Chicago had to acquire Hossa. (Edit Patrick Sharp and Andrew Ladd)
Los Angeles had to acquire Carter and Richards.
Washington had to acquire Eller.
Tampa Bay had to acquire McDonagh and Sergachev.
Vegas had to acquire Marner, Eichel, etc.
The young Hawks did acquired Hossa after a lost in the semi final in 5 in 08

I hope we can do the same and that will put us in an other level like it did for the Hawks

I really like Zharovsky and I think he is going to be really really special player, but if you tell me that Habs acquire Matthew Knies for Zharovsky, 2 1st picks and another prospect not named Hage//Reinbacher//Fowler...

LET'S DO SIGN RIGHT f***ING NOW!!

But I don't believe on this rumor, but the price, I would certainly pay for that. Matthew Knies is a amazing powerforward, it's like adding another Juraj Slafkovsky on that team. Yeah Slaf more potential, but Knies is fantastic aswell!!

If Hughes does that trade it means during his tenure he will have traded more first round picks than used. That is an organizational disaster that will show up in 5 years from now. Sounds very Leafs -like.

Or very Florida like, who hasn’t had a 1st round pick the last 4 years. If a team is using their 1st round picks to find long term solutions, like Dobson, to try and win now i dont think that’s a bad thing. The issue with the Leafs is they traded their 1sts for players that weren’t long term solutions, such as Carlo, O’Reilly, and Laughton.
