7pts in last 10GP, is there room for improvement? Of course
I could get 7 points in in 10 games playing with those 2 .It seems besides passing.... getting those points he is not doing anything well.He is not skating well ,is not physical for a big dude.Doesn;t carry the puck for any length of time.Just gets it and passes quickly

I'm looking for big fish. After season is over, Mesar, Roy, Matheson & 2025 1st (CGY or MTL pick your poison) are for sure on the table for me when there's a trade target that makes sense. Could potentially add Mailloux and Struble to that list too.

That's a pretty solid starting point for assets to trade and that's just touching the surface. If we want to get crazy we have better pieces we can dangle like kapanen, Engstrom, REINBACHER, etc.

Hugo has all the weapons they need to wheel and deal. They just gotta execute properly. Good timing and good trades. Easy buckets

I think he is too old to spend the assets on. The Habs could easily be a buyer but only for a guy who can be here long term. Unless he can be had for cheap (which I highly doubt)
He wouldn't be Plan A, that's for sure.
Of course they'd prefer to get a younger player, but those are not always available, or easy to make a trade for.
I'm sure they tried to make another Dach/Newhook type trade last summer, but didn't find anything.

Like i said, if he's made available, i'm sure some contenders will be more motivated than the Habs to pay the price for him.

I definitely think Struble and Mailloux are going to be common names in trade discussions next season. This season however, and even this off-season, I can't imagine any GM putting much value for either of them.

If Slaf doesn't start to show progress he should be dropped to 3rd or 4th line.I have been a big supporter of his and i know he's young but he doesn't belong on the 1st line at this point. If he wasn't picked 1st overall he would certainly not be up there with Suzuki and Cole
I think Slaf is fine, just going through a rough patch and still is able to produce/contribute.
Once Demidov arrives, i think will have a huge positive on Slaf and pretty much our entire lineup as it deepens the lines.
Hugo is still in the process of smelting the team.. worry not, by trading Barron hes proven how to seperate the slag.

Acquiring Carrier that is signed for a couple of years should result in Savard being either traded at TDL or not re-signed, it's the C position that will drive imo Hugo's next moves.

Dvorak is a goner but also is our only left-handed C that is good on FO (which matters a lot to MSL).

With Beck & Kapanen being righties, it's a tricky decision with regards to Evans. He's a big part of the current success but what will be his salary demand after his stellar season + all our C would be RH except maybe Newhook if somehow he becomes the 3C in the future (dubious).

I'm all for re-signing Evans but maybe the key play is to use him in a hockey trade to get a player that wouldn't normally be available and grab a rugged/vet lefty defensive minded 3C.

I disagree. Mailloux has too much size grit and talent not to entice some teams, and struble is an excellent mix of skating and strength to go with his IQ. Struble has limited puck skills but he'd be welcome on a lot of NHL rosters.

Both should make good trade bait

they're both worth more then Barron who was converted into a very useful asset

Hughes should get the stud center. only thing lacking. I hope we didn't jump ahead too fast out of the rebuild before drafting one.

I believe in this kid.

We are lacking a top pairing RHD too tho. I still want Rasmus Andersson. I don't know what's going on with him tho, his stats are terrible since early November. Calgary are probably waiting for him to pick it back up before the TDL to trade him

I'd like JT Miller while Hage is coming to maturity but I doubt he wants to play in Canada.

If we stay “in the mix” and holding or close to a WC spot by TDL, I see us holding on to all our vets; Dvorak and Savard. They will be our rentals.

Maybe we’ll move Struble and/or picks for some forward depth but I don’t think HuGo are doing to deviate too much from the plan.

They're not necessarily trading him before or at the TDL. He still has a year of contract after this one.

Sorry you couldn't understand the statement.
Suspect Beck is already the 13th forward, they are just keeping him stable in the AHL for now.

WTF does Beck is already the 13th forward mean to you?
A thirteenth forward sits Beck will never sit.
If you mean he's the next call up sure but Beck and 13th forward do not belong in the same sentence.

It does if you consider the "already"... this is a clear logical indication of an hierarchical reference instead of a "role" reference. Sorry you missed this clear indication of what I meant.

Definitely a factor. Laval having a good season with potential for lengthy playoff run is good for development. Could be beneficial if Beck stays down and we let Dvorak walk in July. In long run I mean

Pretty sure this will be how Gorton/Hughes manages this with MSL. We consider offers we can't refuse (mainly applies to Evans/Savard) and others like Armia and Dvorak might stay/expire

If someone offers pieces we can't refuse for both Savard/Evans, it's quite possible the Habs get pieces back to either fill a roster spot on the Habs or Laval (on top of the futures we get)

No question, Hughes, like all competent General Managers, is always looking to improve the team. But over the long years that I have followed hockey and the repeated times that I witnessed efforts to rebuild, reconstitute and re-position my favorite team, I have come to embrace the old adage that the best deals are usually the ones that you don't enter into.

Sure man, they have been looking for a player who would at least complement those two for like 4 years and there is nobody in the team who can do it better than Slafkovsky. He can play better for sure, but he improved his defensive play and he is having a new role on PP. I bet we will see "The Beast" back after 4 Nations Tournament once he gets little break to settle down.
