Why would Long Island do that?

Dobson is 24, if they're trading him it's because they're in last place and want to tank some more, and then win.

Think Mailloux, Beck, and Calgary 1st as a best case scenario.

I don’t think you’re far off, they’d probably want Reinbacher in place of Mailloux.

I just don’t see why the Isles would want to trade him unless they’re tearing the whole thing down, which doesn’t seem likely until Lou is removed and a new GM takes the helm?

He played 2nd line center behind Miller in the playoffs last season and s*** the bed......like all over the bed , floor and up the walls lol.

You do not pay a quitter like him 11.6 million to be sheltered at the most important time of the season only to still have him quit. Who knows, maybe last season was not indicative of how he will perform in future playoffs as he showed well in his sophomore season but that was six years ago and he seems to be a very different person now hat he got paid. If he was making 7-8 M like the rest of our young core then I might consider it but 11.6 is a crippling debt to carry in the salary cap world.

Dach is being written off very prematurely and we still have Suzuki, Demidov, Hage Beck and Kapanen who are all capable of being a top six center along with the sudden surge in Evans game. There is no need to take such a huge risk on highly paid enigma on a long term contract like Pettersson has.

IMO we mostly have the necessary top six ingredients in the system and should be looking to solidify the right side of the D and become bigger and more aggressive in the bottom six. Don't get me wrong, if we can land a legitimate top of the roster center who profiles as a playoff performer we should do our due diligence but Pettersson at this moment is not that guy.

If both Dach and Slaf get their sh*t together we are going to begin to roll here. I am very confident that Slaf will be fine and am more optimistic than most on Dach but I do acknowledge that he may not work out due to his apparent lackadaisical manner and questionable commitment to nutrition/training.

If Hughes finds that he has the trade capital to acquire just one impact player, should he go for a forward or a defenseman?
I think our trade capital should be spent on Right D.. we are missing a 2C, but this is far easier to acquire/over pay than landing a RHD.

A lot of posters are hard on Mailloux, but reality is every team is in dire straits for RD - so while Mailloux might have lesser value as a LHD (supply - Demand) he renains "better" than most of our competitors' RHD prospects.

What the hell is going on in Buffalo? They have a young, signed 30 goal center with size and they may be listening? Owen Power was also mentioned earlier this season. They really must have a fetish for rebuilding. Unfortunately they wouldn’t likely trade with another team in the same division unless the overpayment was extreme. Hugo won’t bite on that. If Matheson + picks/prospects was on the table for Dobson, that’s a no-brainer. Solidify the team backend quickly.
Cozen is not playing center this year and on pace for 16 goals/40 pts and had only 18 goals and 47 pts last season). The season he had 30 goals, his sh% was way higher than all his other seasons. ;)

If that’s the ask for Dobson I believe Hugo makes that trade. I mentioned Matheson simply to reduce the cap coming back. But it’s not like he couldn’t be traded elsewhere if Dobson was acquired

This addresses my initial question of what’s going on in Buffalo. Cozens has had some success at C is now playing wing. And his drop off in production may very well be tied directly to the coach allocating play. Buffalo is a dumpster fire.

Cozens has the Josh Anderson traits. Big, fast, physical, decent shot but has a lack of hockey IQ.

Cozen is sometimes at center, it just doesn't stick. And his drop off in production was him reverting to his average after one good season.

People want to swap Dach for Cozen, but they aren't getting an upgrade on Dach doing that, just a different struggling player who is just as old (birthdays ~3 weeks appart) and doesn't have a knee injury excuse.

Pagnotta says we’re selling roster players this season in order to acquire other roster players in the coming off-season? I hope so but I’ll believe it when I see it fella.

We’re actually quite asset poor right now despite three years of tanking and selling and many years of not making big trades.

We’ve lost approximate trade value on a number of a players and prospects: Dach, Newhook, Reinbacher, Mešar, Roy, Mailloux, etc.

Which of our prospects are “tantalizing” as a major part of a trade package? Hage, Beck, and who else? Both Hage and Beck are super necessary to retain for our team’s depth.

Which of our not-UFA players are “tantalizing” as a major part of a trade package? Xhekaj, Matheson, Laine (unlikely to be moved), and who else?

Relative poverty makes things more expensive.

the team has almost an extra draft pick in every round next year. They have additional draft picks in the next year as well.

They still have young D like Engstrom, Mailloux, Struble that can be moved. Roy, Mesar, Dach, Newhook are the type of forwards that get moved in big deals all the time

Literally every hockey pundit says the Habs have enough assets to make a big move.

It’s like you’re following a completely different team.

I’m sure you think Roy, Mailloux, and a 3rd will get the Flames jumping to deliver us Weegar. Then Hughes can swap Newhook and Mešar with Buffalo for Cozens. And we know the whole NHL is aching to get their hands on Struble.

He’s said as much already. No intention of keeping all the picks they have and use them for trade capital to make team better without giving up young core players.

The thing with Dobson is that while he’s an excellent offensive defenseman, he’s awful in his own end. He’s the right handed shot equivalent of Matheson with better scoring ability and less grit. I don’t think that’s the guy you want or need to throw huge dollars at for a long term, while also spending significant assets to acquire.

We have our powerplay QB here now in Hutson. Matheson will be moved in due time, I don’t see the logic behind acquiring a non physical, non shutdown, offensively minded power play merchant. Especially with players like Hutson, Laine, and Caufield all vying for that role.

We need a guy that can eat heavy heavy minutes, handle the physical side of things and understand that his role is to be the responsible one for when Hutson invariably takes off offensively. Obviously has to be a good skater, intelligent and a bonus would be a nasty streak.

If we were going to shell out major assets to acquire anyone, I’d look at someone like Colton Parayko. He’d be the perfect complement for Hutson, he’s a big shut down defender, a veteran leader, someone who would immediately make our team more difficult to play against.

I love that you acknowledge that Bogo is fast as I have argued that with the typical types on this board who can't scout skating and claim that he is slow.

Thank you for restoring some faith in my fellow posters.
Well, I am just smart enough to use NHL edge. He is in 95 percentile in top speed and overall plays game at high speed. Also won cup with Tampa, could be a great vet leader.
