Pettersson is a baby butt soft quitter and a genuine dbag......I wouldn't take him for free. We already have evidence that Suzuki is a much better player than Pettersson in the playoffs and that is all that matters.

Suzuki is far more valuable, so is almost every player on our team as Petterson has negative value to a team looking to try and contend for a Cup. He all but eliminates a team from the championship conversation.

Sure, theoretically he can change but at 11.6M for the next seven years the reality is that he is very much an anchor that keeps you in a cess pool of failed teams. I wouldn't take that risk and neither would HuGo.

If EP came to Montreal, he'd likely become the second center in the playoffs and thus he'd play against weaker competition than he did in Vancouver as the first center. I don't know but maybe that would be enough to help.

He played 2nd line center behind Miller in the playoffs last season and s*** the bed......like all over the bed , floor and up the walls lol.

You do not pay a quitter like him 11.6 million to be sheltered at the most important time of the season only to still have him quit. Who knows, maybe last season was not indicative of how he will perform in future playoffs as he showed well in his sophomore season but that was six years ago and he seems to be a very different person now hat he got paid. If he was making 7-8 M like the rest of our young core then I might consider it but 11.6 is a crippling debt to carry in the salary cap world.

Dach is being written off very prematurely and we still have Suzuki, Demidov, Hage Beck and Kapanen who are all capable of being a top six center along with the sudden surge in Evans game. There is no need to take such a huge risk on highly paid enigma on a long term contract like Pettersson has.

IMO we mostly have the necessary top six ingredients in the system and should be looking to solidify the right side of the D and become bigger and more aggressive in the bottom six. Don't get me wrong, if we can land a legitimate top of the roster center who profiles as a playoff performer we should do our due diligence but Pettersson at this moment is not that guy.

If both Dach and Slaf get their sh*t together we are going to begin to roll here. I am very confident that Slaf will be fine and am more optimistic than most on Dach but I do acknowledge that he may not work out due to his apparent lackadaisical manner and questionable commitment to nutrition/training.

My problem with EP is his salary and quite frankly not a playoffs player prototype. I would prefer a player like Bennett at 8M$ per.

Nah. Quite frankly, Laine’s comments weren’t that bad.They just turned it into a motivation for the game. He would absolutely sign here if he becomes UFA. But if Habs really want him, they might have to step up at the deadline and give a good asset for him.

Clearly a RD is our biggest need right now and in the future as Mailloux is hardly a sure thing and who knows how Reinbacher rebounds from his set back this season. Hopefully Dach can elevate his game in the second half of the season.

This team's biggest issue is keeping the puck out of its own net and less time spent defending is more time attacking.

Yeah and if we’re looking at the quality RHD in the NHL, there aren’t that much. You have to draft and develop them. Almost every team in the NHL plays a LHD on the right side.

He is a UFA but having exclusive negotiating rights until July 1st would be a help.....just not sure how much Hughes would pay for that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a playoffs team pays a late 1st for him. So I would say we would need to part with one of our early 2nd and a B prospect.

Or..... in June we can flip them a mid round pick for exclusive negotiating privileges. If they are open to such an offer that is.

Teams were much stingier last season with their 1st round picks than they had been in previous years and I expect that trend to continue. Hughes smartly moved Monahan early and may not have got that first if he had waited longer.

I think the consensus was more that teams had watched and/or regretted too many bad trades where 1st rounders were ultimately squandered for nothing over the previous few seasons and collectively were a little gun shy. Perhaps the perceived strength of the 1st round played a part but the teams that move 1sts at the deadline are typically the ones who are picking around 25 or later which was where the drop off was.

Laine and him are good friends and still in contact. It was mention in the Athletic article with the rest of Laine's comments about CJB.

I love that you acknowledge that Bogo is fast as I have argued that with the typical types on this board who can't scout skating and claim that he is slow.

Both would be good targets for sure. Cozens seems like a more realistically available player, or for a more reasonable price I should say.

What the hell is going on in Buffalo? They have a young, signed 30 goal center with size and they may be listening? Owen Power was also mentioned earlier this season. They really must have a fetish for rebuilding. Unfortunately they wouldn’t likely trade with another team in the same division unless the overpayment was extreme. Hugo won’t bite on that. If Matheson + picks/prospects was on the table for Dobson, that’s a no-brainer. Solidify the team backend quickly.
