My problem with EP is his salary and quite frankly not a playoffs player prototype. I would prefer a player like Bennett at 8M$ per.

Nah. Quite frankly, Laine’s comments weren’t that bad. They just turned it into a motivation for the game. He would absolutely sign here if he becomes UFA. But if Habs really want him, they might have to step up at the deadline and give a good asset for him.
Olivier knows for a fact the team's infrastructures are just on different levels.

Habs suck and get a better pick.

A team might be looking at Primeau thinking a change of scenery might work and might do a 1 for 1 swap.

I wouldn't bring up Dobes.
If relations with the coach aren't good, I see them waive Primeau to recall Hughes.

It's the cheap "we're in tank mode" move, "because we can't improve at the moment".

Hughes has been pretty good except for a couple of games recently. I assume he came over to try to make the NHL. Waive Pimeau and call him up. If he is a solid backup they can hopefully re sign him. Either that or trade him at the deadline if they are out of contention and they are sure Dobes will be ready next season.

Pagnotta says we’re selling roster players this season in order to acquire other roster players in the coming off-season? I hope so but I’ll believe it when I see it fella.

We’re actually quite asset poor right now despite three years of tanking and selling and many years of not making big trades.

We’ve lost approximate trade value on a number of a players and prospects: Dach, Newhook, Reinbacher, Mešar, Roy, Mailloux, etc.

Which of our prospects are “tantalizing” as a major part of a trade package? Hage, Beck, and who else? Both Hage and Beck are super necessary to retain for our team’s depth.

Which of our not-UFA players are “tantalizing” as a major part of a trade package? Xhekaj, Matheson, Laine (unlikely to be moved), and who else?

Relative poverty makes things more expensive.
While some of your points are valid on paper , if we go back in time , would you think Harris gets you a second let alone a laine ?
Heck would any one of us honestly thought that Hoffman could be unloaded without giving up a highish pick ?
Based simply on such moves I can us having many assets we might not value but they still retaining much value when kh offers them

Jake Evans is on pace for 50 points this year. 19 goals! The average cap for a 50 points centre who wins face-off is around $5 million per year. I don't think he'll fit under our cap. As of today I think his trade value is the same as Sean Monahan last year. A first round pick for pending UFA.

Joel Armia is on pace for 38 points. 16 goals probably his best production in his career. For a 3rd line player who averages 40 points, you're looking at $4 mil range. I don't think we will resign him at that price point. His trade value at best is a 2nd round pick and 3rd round pick or prospect pending UFA. Maybe Marc Bergevin will convince Rob Blake to trade for him? Bergy loves his former players. He convinced Blake to give Edmunson 4 years contract at $4 mil per year. I could see a 2nd round pick for Armia.

David Savard is on pace for 23 points as a shutdown defensemen. This is actually really valuable for a team making the hard push for the playoffs. He's great on the penalty kill and use his body for playoff hockey. I see Tampa who's familiar with him. I can see Tampa throwing 2 x 2nd round picks for Savard who's pending UFA.

Christian Dvorak is strictly a face/off centre who kills penalty. He's the least likely of the 4 we bring back. I see a team like Winnipeg looking for a player like him on the 4th line winning face offs kills penalties in the playoffs. He's probably not worth more than a 3rd round pick.

The 4 players above could get us
1st round pick (Evans)
2nd round pick (Armia)
2nd round pick (Savard)
2nd round pick (Savard)
3rd round pick (Dvorak)

If we somehow get a top 6 pick or the Calgary's pick is top 15, I could see Hughes/Gorton making crazy moves at the draft.

I mean jumping from 6th overall to 4th overall will require 2 x 2nd round picks or maybe a 2nd and a 3rd to move up 2 spots.

Also if Calgary's pick is like 15th overall. Packaging 15th, 2nd round pick and another 2nd will get us in the top 10.

I mean 2 top 10 picks is not impossible.

For me our own pick (one of Hagens/Martone/Schaefer/Misa)
Calgary's pick via trades? (Desnoyers/McQueen/Eklund/Frondell/Spence)

Its not out of the question our rebuild is near the end.

The salary+cap space is a huge part of it. Do you think Monahan and a 1st makes sense without taking the cap hit into account? Sure doesn’t!
Heck would any one of us honestly thought that Hoffman could be unloaded without giving up a highish pick ?

Hughes can sell cap space… but cap space is cheaper now going forward because the Covid crunch is over.

Pettersson is a baby butt soft quitter and a genuine dbag......I wouldn't take him for free. We already have evidence that Suzuki is a much better player than Pettersson in the playoffs and that is all that matters.
?

Pettersson have been more productive in the playoffs then Suzuki

Suzuki: 23 pts in 32 games
Pettersson: 24 pts in 30 games
