In the games I've watched Demidov play he already shows more awareness at both ends of the rink than Slaf.
Lane Hutson top started as a top four player in a tougher role Demidov can easily play a top six wing.
Does anyone believe the NCAA is a tougher league than the KHL because I don't.

Main camp day one I'm playing him with my top center and then I'd take it from there.
Celebrini is currently playing north of 19:00 for San Jose.
Demidov is certainly at or close to a Celebrini level player.

Yes, and that's unfortunately obvious with the rink size being much smaller and players entering each other's personal spaces much more often. That said, it's easy to see Hagens' shifts having as many hits as Demidov's shifts. If we're talking non-physical players, the difference is marginal.

The rink size is the same I thought you knew that.

Majority of khl rink are nhl size....

Hutson was 62 OA. I think having more shots at interesting prospects for a homerun swing is better than not. Call me crazy!

Newhook cost the 31st and 37th OA didn't he?

31st and 37th isn't nothing. Aside from the draft picks, it's also trade capitals. Good players are traded for firsts all of the time.

HuGo acquired Newhook because they believed he had a good shot of being a useful middle six contributor. That's how the trade should be evaluated.

And Newhook is by FAR way better than everyone on that list...not even close. Hutson they passed on him because of size. Doesn't happen often that one pans out and there were even question marks on if he would...but hey, those magical firsts!

How broken is he?
No idea. Has lost Covid issues but outside of that, it’s a medical stuff question and PTO situation IMO.

Dear lord no...,haven’t we learned our lesson?

It’s no coincidence he’s playing better in his contract year- he did the same last time

Time to move on...he’s been given enough chances here
I’d have no problem keeping Armia on a cheap home town discount contract. He’s been great for what he does and helps drive the 4th line, big body penalty killer and take away machine who chip in offence. Sub $2M for 2-3 years and I wouldn’t object. Very useful player.

Math is #1 to be traded
I say Dorvak is #2 to get out
Although I agree that Matheson should be the one traded, I actually don’t think he will be. He’s a Quartexx player and an ex Kent Hughes player so I think that bond will be too much for our GM to overcome.

Would some of you be happy if Hughes traded all of {Evans, Armia, Dvorak, Savard, Matheson} for the highest bid available?

I think that he'd have a hard time filling all of those holes over the summer. I guess it could happen, but it seems like an unnecessary risk.

Armia, Savard and Evans are in a similar boat.

If the best you're getting isn't much, you might be better off to keep them and just go with it depending where the Habs are.

If the Habs fall off a cliff and they're not close and the players have once again regressed, trade them all for whatever you can get.

If someone offers a 1st for Evans, I'm sorry but he's gone.

If someone offers a 2nd for Savard he's gone.

Armia is probably a 2nd at this point, too. 3rd If it's a 3rd originally belonging to a bad team if consider it.

A 4th is pass.

Dvorak has to be gone regardless of the return.

A conditional 7th based on Dvorak leading his team in regular season points, then playoff points, but also setting the record for most goals, assists and points in a playoff run, conn smythe winner , too.

That's a done deal.

I think Dvo is worth a 3rd round if he keeps this up. Make it 2027 if need be. Better to stagger picks anyway. That's what Blueger went for a few years ago.

I have worked with some Russian players and got to know their families.

This discussion went off the rails as someone took benign hockey dialogue out of context. I'm all about insulating young players and especially a teenager who has never lived outside his home country. Teams in many sports leagues try to give these players who were huge investments a buddy/mentor as they adjust to a new culture and way of life. Many MLB teams have done this with Japanese players. There is no re-inventing the wheel with this concept.

I don't think you're racist, but I also don't see the issue in recognizing that what you said singled out a particular group for no apparent reason. It's good and healthy to become aware of unconscious biases and good on the original poster for pointing this out. No amount of likes in support, and no amount of my "best friend is russian" type of explanations will change that fact. Just own up to it and grow as a person.

To be clear, I do not consider your original post racist.

There are only so many roster spots. As for a Russian coach or other staff, they wouldn’t be buddies or peers so the intimacy would not really go farther than a certain point.

I don’t want any young player falling astray but hopefully the Gainey-era complacency with managing players has been left behind. With that said, we are hearing some not so good speculation about Slafkovsky… so who knows. I figure it mostly depends on the character of the player and his priorities.

I have faith Demidov wants to be the next superstar. Lord knows we need that.
There's no doubt in my mind that this HuGo regime will do everything they can to support Demidov's transition and adjustment to North American lifestyle. As a former agent, Hughes is well aware of all the support methods for young players. A veteran Russian player with good character would certainly be nice but not essential for his transition.

The reality is of all the major hockey nations, Russian / Belarusian players have the least English language skills historically compared to Scandinavians, Slovaks, Czech players etc

Let’s keep in mind the Habs co-Dir of Amateur Scouting is a Russian National (carries Russian passport), so if anyone is aware of what it takes Bobrov would

If Habs keep on their winning ways, the only trades will be to add players to the roster. Not get rid of them. Except maybe Dvo.
Any trade to add will subtract to create a roster spot for that player. The current line-up doesn't have anyone that should be healthy scratched (or sent down) outside the two who already are: Struble and Pezz.

Why are you speaking in generalities? Demidov speaks English. And the argument implied russians are more suceptible to falling into vices than other nationalities. Otherwise, as has been already pointed out, we would be getting senior players of every nationality for corresponding high draft picks. The poster made an association between kostitsyns (not russians) and some issue Demidov might have. It was silly and poster should just admit it.

Having seen this topic being covered in articles in the past, I do see merit of there being a Russian speaker on the team's entourage. However it doesn't necessarily have to come in the form of a roster player. It can be a member of the staff or an ambassador.
