Montreal needs two things fixed. They need some size and grit on the bottom line(s) rather than guys like Stephens and Armia.

Every game I watch Habs get outmuscled and pushed around.

The other thing they need fixed is their powerplay. They are lacking a puck passion beast. This is a tougher problem to solve. Not sure there is an internal solution.

Really ? The top players record 10 & 9 goals in 35 games in a high scoring league, Anderson Monahan not better but the issue is the bottom 6 ?

Well PLD had 26 PPG the last 2 years in Winnipeg and lots of 4th line size and guys who throw hits available this summer Carrier,Blais and Trenin.

Allen isn’t worth a first round pick and if you were a EDM or TOR fan you’d be furious if your team put its fate in the hands of Jake Allen.
I’d be more furious if they left it in the hands of Stuart Skinner if I was an Oilers fan, while wasting another year of McDavid and Draisaitl’s prime.

I personally hope the Leaf Blowers keep whoever they’ve got in net, as it’s an annual source of joy and indeed tradition to watch them fail miserably, while the talking heads at TSN, CBC and Sportsnet have to do some actual reporting on other teams for a change.

I mentioned in my second point, the powerplay sucks. Powerplay require goal scoring and talent so yes it was implied that would require a top player. Dach healthy next year helps a ton but still another guy is needed.

And yes I identified bottom six toughness because our promising young defender sure get run a lot. A part of the solution is keeping the youth we do have protected

There was none. The original link died but I have now replaced it.

The fake trades are the ones we're supposed to come up with in here, based on this table they showed in the 2nd intermission during Elliotte Friedman's segment:

8avykg.jpg
That list is a big nothing. The "sellers" are teams who are at the bottom and not necessarily teams with extra goalies who have shown they can play in the NHL outside of the Habs (Columbus isn't trading Elvis and Martin was a waiver pick-up who isn't an upgrade for the buyers for example). While the buyers don't include teams outside of the playoffs who really need goalies to make it outside of Edmonton.

In other words, there is a lot less sellers with quality stock and a lot more buyers.

Jake Allen

The two journalists have differing opinions on the veteran goaltender's future team. Lebrun thinks Allen could head to Carolina, while Johnston envisions him joining New Jersey.

Both teams have shown strong interest in him as of late.

Sean Monahan

The two journalists also identify two teams. LeBrun believes Colorado could be interested in Monahan if the initial plan to acquire Elias Lindholm doesn't pan out. On the other hand, Johnston suggests that Winnipeg could seriously consider this option.

The Jets have several promising assets that could interest Kent Hughes.

In any case, the general manager of the Canadiens will probably spend a lot of time on the phone in the coming weeks

Avs fan dropping in. And Happy New Year to everyone.

Regarding Monahan and Colorado, if this is based on that piece where he was on with Johnston, he didnt exactly say the Avs could be interested. He said Monahan could/would be a consolation prize if they miss on Lindholm. While Lebrun might know something, its not being revealed in this comment. His comment was presented as opinion and not as reporting.

Keep in mind, last year the Avs add was Eller with a future 2nd. Its possible they were linked to Monahan because thats what the Avs were willing to pay. If the Avs are now being linked to Cs like Lindholm, they're probably willing to pay more now so to not repeat last year.

They will have to pay in 1sts and prospects to get a centre like Lindholm or Monahan.

Here's my 3-step plan for the next 6 months:

1. Trade Monahan, Allen and Savard between now and the trade deadline. Should give us a couple nice picks or prospects in return.

2. Trade Matheson at the draft. Love him but his value will never be higher.

3. Depending on who we draft, acquire a young-ish winger with size to complete our top-6.

Potential targets:
Kakko, Laf, Necas, McCann...

Trade bait (in order of preference)
-One or more of Barron/Harris/Mailloux/Xhekaj
-One or more of Farrell/Roy/Mesar/Heineman
-Any 1st/2nd/3rd round pick acquired at the TDL (or CGY's)
-Newhook

*Steps 2 and 3 could also be linked if Matheson is traded for a forward with comparable value*

Agree on Lindholm (or something else of value). Disagree on Monahan. What you saw the Avs pay last year for Eller is probably about what they were willing to pay for anyone else. So if they were interested in Monahan last year because (they thought) it was doable with a future 2nd, it's hard to imagine them trading a first now.

Name a specific player or return for Matheson you would think "will never be higher" and that you would accept.

Matheson for Kakko, for example?

That is ridiculous. Lindholm's career high is 13 goals. Who is the consolation prize again?

Not trying to start conflict. Apologies if you were offended. It seems like the Habs want to re-sign him anyway. That would kind of make it a moot, no?
Not your fault if Lebrun said that.

I do support possibly re-signing Moneyhands. Target: no more than $4M AAV for 2-3 years only.
