Toronto are not trading for Monahan even if that might be one of the few players they can fit, even if they wanted they are likely to get outbid by some who actually need a C or middle 6 FW…

Exactly, Toronto have so few desirable assets to trade for. They don't have the purchasing power to outbid anyone.

Minten looked good game we played Leafs in camp. He looked NHL close. I might deal Monahan for Minten if I couldn't get a mid first for Monahan. Where he is further along and this draft only so-so deep.

I thought he was better than Beck.

They have little to give and the idea of trying to help Toronto for a playoff run makes me want to throw up.
Teams in Leafs situation are the type to go all in at deadline - Knies will likely be the bait to help address multiple positional weaknesses IMO

Can't wait for the Habs firesale again, 2024 edition. Everything must go......go......go.

Obviously, guys like Armia, Anderson, Gallagher, Dvo, Allen, Pearson, Savard and Monahan will be hot sought after commodities. Obviously, notice the satire in this. Not sure if Matheson should be added to the list, he's blossoming into a top 4 D, then again Monahan is producing steadily. Anderson is a great player to have but not at that salary and Gally, well, is just impossible to move. And I personally think the Habs can do better than Dvo.

I really liked this Habs edition of thid year though. They were a much more improved team, however once again obviously not a playoff team.

No....Gally, Andy, Pearson and Armia are definitely not hot commodities lol. Should be able to move Money, Jake and Savard but Savy is the only one that could garner a solid return imo.

Probably mentioned when the podcast was released, but Friedman mentioned that teams are scouting Monahan again.

Marek brought up that the habs might consider extending him. Just some filler talk about January 1st and teams extending players they've given 1 year contracts to.

Maybe the Monny extension talks are real but it’s also a great way to build leverage. Tell other teams you’d really rather resign him so it’ll cost more to pry him away. Just a GM building a players value for a potential trade. Did the same with Toffoli when he said he didn’t want to trade him only to turn around and flip him for a great package.

Why do so many want to trade everyone over 25? Do that and we basically give up all hope of making the playoffs in the next 5 years. A team with all young guys will not be successful.

True, but you can make deals to bring in vets.

Monahan is keep unless you're getting a 2nd.

Dvorak can't be traded, so he'll be there.

Gallagher ditto.

Armia might be able to be dealt in the offseason for another similar player, so there's some vet.

Savard isn't part of the future. He's playing well and if can bring back a 1st +, you do it.

Matheson isn't part of the future. He's playing well offensively, he's relatively cheap and has term. The Habs I believe are gunning for the 2025-26 season to be a playoff team, so he'll need a new contract and be at that point where he'll get paid well (assuming he keeps up this production) and then likely drop off in terms of production and be a bit of an anchor.

This year will be a solid year for ufas, so the Habs could get another one, or two solid vets.

Habs could really use a few more top 60 picks to fill out their pool and be ready to move some for NHL help.

Hopefully for next season the Habs can grab another 1st for a cap dump.

2025 seems like the draft to really stock the cupboards.

Allen's name has been linked to Oilers, Canes, Sabres & Devils. So it doesn't surprise me those insiders name two of those teams.

As for Monahan, I think he was linked to the Avs since last year, but he was injured.
Allen will be a right down to the wire trade unless it's a team trying to make it in. The Oil are pointed in he right direction and just have to beat their immediate rivals a time or two and they are back in it. Buffalo wouldn't pull the trigger on a move when they were clearly in it last season.
I don't see them doing so now when they are pretty much toast.
Learn the lesson Buffalo you don't bail on your players like that because it may lead to...
Oh how's it going this season?

Gonna need to burn off as much cap as possible on Jake Allen IMO.

He plays a heavy game which the Leafs need desperately. I'd love to have him here. Why the heck do we have so many problems identifying this type of player. He checks a lot of boxes for a 57th pick overall.
Same thing with Bruins and Poitras.
All our issues come from awful scouting. Until I am proven otherwise, I consider them the worst in the league.
See Bobrov/Gorton draft record with Rangers.

Ok buddy, the Habs' 2022 and 2023 drafts were the worst in the league.

Poitras is nothing special. Until we see what the 2022 and 2023 draftees end up to be your post is ridiculous.
