You’re forgetting the whole part about rebuilding and getting assets…never mind the fact that Monahan is held together with bubblegum and chopsticks.
Monahan was a 6OA who made the NHL in his D+1. He has actually been the 4th best player from his cohort. Is the asset you envision getting for him likely to play at that level in the next 3-5 years?

Savard and Allen to Edmonton makes too much sense, but finding the cap space/assets to make it work seems like it would be quite difficult.

I’d propose -

To Edmonton: David Savard, Jake Allen

To Montreal: 2024 1st round pick (unprotected), Dylan Holloway, Jayden Grubbe, and Warren Foegele as a cap dump.

Oil shore up their defense with a veteran partner for Nurse, which allows Ceci to anchor the third pairing, and pick up a veteran goalie with cup experience.

Habs get an extra first rounder and two decent forward prospects with good talent, size and speed for the prospect pool.
Package like that Oil going to dump Soupy instead of Foegele.

Kulich for Allen? Seem fair for Buffalo who are looking for a goalie?
Going forward, aren't Buffalo stacked on D and need forwards. If they have a lot forwards, maybe the need RD's.

So perhaps one of Barron, Mailloux, or Bogdan plus Allen or Primeau gets us Kullich, if they're willing to give up a young forward. And the questions are, do we want to give up one of those pieces? And, is sub 6 foot Kullich the right target?

I'd be very very surprised if Buffalo traded Kulich.
Certainly not for that package.

Habs missed their chance to get him at the draft.

They are very stacked at both with high end prospects or young players. The issue is their team play never improves despite constantly inserting good players. In that "Dach" tier of guys they have Benson, Quinn, Kulich, Savoie, and maybe Ohstlund/Rosen projecting there. The issue is some of their current forwards are going to age out.

Kulich is also 6'1, his eliteprospects info is from his draft year.

Will be traded:

Sean Monahan
Tanner Pearson
Jake Allen

Likely to be traded:
David Savard
Gustav Lindstrom

Should get a solid return in totality for all those moves. Maybe nothing super sexy, but at least one first round pick, likely a 2nd, definitely some 3rds.. a prospect or two.

Pearson may be tough to move.. but I like your list

We don't have a lot of top 6 forwards (on pace for 50+ points, nor any other key guys than Monahan who are also vet leaders.

So it will be interesting to see whether Hughes decides to trade or re-sign Monahan.

I'm open to both trading him and extending him. But I think the ideal scenario would be to trade him (while also giving him a chance to go to a team that could make a run) and then bringing him back in the off-season.

I think if Savard is moved, it will be in the off-season. I also do think Lindstrom will be traded for a small return.

The only way I see them keeping Lindstrom is if he is waived and sent to Laval and they make the playoffs and make a run.

The fact that we only have 3 forwards on pace for over 30 points is a reason we should trade Monahan, we aren't going anywhere with this offence and adding assets to help for the future is needed.

We will still have some veterans like Gallagher, Anderson, Savard and Matheson around for the remainder of the season so losing Monahan's leadership for a couple of months isn't a huge deal.

Jake Allen

The two journalists have differing opinions on the veteran goaltender's future team. Lebrun thinks Allen could head to Carolina, while Johnston envisions him joining New Jersey.

Both teams have shown strong interest in him as of late.

Sean Monahan

The two journalists also identify two teams. LeBrun believes Colorado could be interested in Monahan if the initial plan to acquire Elias Lindholm doesn't pan out. On the other hand, Johnston suggests that Winnipeg could seriously consider this option.

The Jets have several promising assets that could interest Kent Hughes.

In any case, the general manager of the Canadiens will probably spend a lot of time on the phone in the coming weeks

I maintain Habs and Buf make ideal trade partners - Sabres needing veteran presence at G & D and Habs looking for NHL ready talent (Levi, Rosen)

Arpon Basu dropped Rosen’s name out of the blue before the season started… he must’ve “heard something”…

When did he mention Rosen ?

They're not trading Levi, he's their future goalie.
