Couple of proposals from a professional amateur:

1) Acquiring Morgan Frost from the Philadelphia Flyers. He’s a young player on a decent contract, coming off a 19 goal season, fits the core’s age, and he’s been in Tortorella’s doghouse for a long time. Healthy scratched a couple of times already this year. Habs have Josh Anderson, a guy loved by Tortorella and who had his best years with Torts as a head coach.

To Philadelphia: Josh Anderson

To Montreal: Morgan Frost, Garnet Hathaway

2) Edmonton needs a goalie and cap space. The Habs have too many goalies and lots of cap space. Seems like there should be an obvious deal to be made here.

To Edmonton: Jake Allen (50% retained = 1.925), Joel Armia

To Montreal: Jack Campbell, Calvin Pickard, Warren Foegele, 2024 1st round pick (unprotected), 2024 2nd round pick, Xavier Bourgeault

Oilers get a veteran goalie and open up about 2.5 million to make some moves, while adding some depth in Armia to replace Foegele. Habs take on Campbell’s high contract for two years longer and at a higher AAV than Armia’s but get paid the equivalent of two first round picks for their troubles. Hoping that the Oilers don’t turn it around and they end up with a lottery pick.

Habs could then move Foegele at the deadline.

Habs lineup moving forward to the end of the season:

Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Caufield
Dvorak - Frost - Newhook
Pearson - Monahan - Gallagher
Pezzetta - Evans - Hathaway
Ylonen

Guhle - Kovacevic
Matheson - Barron
Xhekaj - Harris

Montembeault

Why does Philadelphis a team that publicly said they are rebuilding would take... Josh Anderson?

Big picture is McDavid needs to be happy and so do the fans
They just can't let another year slide. They need a goalie, maybe they don't add the D. You can even add in another team that gets paid to retain on Allen on top of the Habs , so his actual cost really drops. And yeah, they just might need to give away a decent player to make it work, but they just can't have goaltending at 88%.
McDavid needs to be happy yes but Allen has big contract. Oilers hard up against cap. Around 90% of clubs are. Habs going to have take bad contract back. Allen contract so high he has no value. Habs be asked to retain in most trade talk

Thought I had explained it pretty clearly?

Torterella has benched Frost repeatedly. He is also a big fan of Josh Anderson, who produced very well for him in Columbus.

Habs are betting on Frost improving under MSL (and away from Torts), Flyers are betting on Anderson coming alive again under Torterella which would only increase his trade value down the road.

Habs take back a vet in Hathaway (which clears up a roster spot for a younger player for them as well), and which also keeps the cap hits almost identical.

Oh I understood your point but , Tort is not the GM here. Flyers also tried to trade Carter Hart this summer. They are in a full turnover , Perhaps a change of scenario would be better for Frost etc but I dont think Anderson value at the moment is worth anything. I just think Philadelphia gain more by keeping Frost or even just trade both of them for picks in the longterm.

Kovacevic is playing some reallly good hockey and i'm guessing he will be in demand before trade deadline. At 6f5 with one of the cheapest contract in the league, do you think he'd fetch a first rounder? He's worth more than Kulak before we sent him to EDM because of the 2 more years attached to him. Love the big boy but he'd be the first one to leave with Harris considering our depth at D.

So Oilers are looking at Allen/Monty/Primeau and scouted Allen's game tonight (hopefully they were too drunk to assess him properly). Allen's contract is awful so I don't see why they would seek that, and Primeau has like no experience so I don't see us getting more than a late pick. I don't know what they can offer for Monty to make it worthwhile for us.

The way the team played tonight, it's easy to blame the Ds and forwards who let the Bruins walk into the ozone as if nobody was there.

But I would still prefer if Monty was traded. I feel like extending him is a trap. And none of them are worth that much, taking a cap dump in return will probably bring back more value.

All of this talk of acquiring late firsts and seconds has gotten so stale and boring. I hope that this is the last season of this shit.
It better not be. The way to prolong a contending team is to keep acquiring top prospects with 1st round picks.

Why does Philadelphis a team that publicly said they are rebuilding would take... Josh Anderson?
Becauae the old fools brigade still really runs the team from their retirement homes and they would prize a big guy like Anderson.

Ill rather keep Kovacevic and trade Harris. Hes playing better and Harris is too small

Dawson Mercer should be a target. Buy low type of project. NJ will need depth for their playoff run.

Kovacevic would be their 6th/7th dman.......nobody is giving up anything close to a 1st for him.
