oof - trade this guy - we need a higher pick!

highlights just how young/inexperienced our D is... no one would mistake Savard for a quality top-pairing dman, but with Matheson the only other real vet on the squad, his impact is clearly amplified.

if another team values him anywhere close to how valuable he's been for our group, then agreed, you gotta pull that trigger.

Oilers still seem like the best fit... Savard/Allen would go a long way to bolstering their playoff aspirations this year and next

I thought Allen for Raanta + 3rd made sense

Raanta already clear for the AHL so he can help Dobes

Rocket signed a vet goalie to a PTO, he looks exactly like the kind of guy you want mentoring Dobes.

Don’t see them trading Allen for a 3rd and a cap dump. I think Primeau is the one getting moved out.

It’s like a team asking the Habs for Roy. Not likely to happen.

And with a “Franco tax” added for the Habs

Considering we signed a goalie for the AHL deal I guessing that it mean KH is willing to out wait any team that waiting for the price to drop on Allen.
Yup.

Habs might even start next season with 3 goalies the way things are going. And by that I mean, Habs aren't the only ones looking outside the NHL for their goaltending needs instead of doing trades. Carolina signed a second tryout, Buffalo/Edmonton haven't done anything, etc.

They ought to go with a system that allows more flexibility with goalies as it doesn’t take much for an injury to happen to one of the two starters most teams use and then they get stuck with a not ready for prime time call up in a lot of cases.

3 more years? This team is not that far off, definitely not 3 years away. Add Newhook and Dach into the mix, were up there IMO.

UFA's of that nature don't become available very often, in case we do struggle another year or two it's better off having him already.
So you are saying, with Dach & Newhook we make PO next season and season after we are cup contender? And I thought I am optimistic person :)
We have a lot of very good unique ingredients (Hutson, Xhekaj, Struble, Mailloux, Reinbacher, Ghule, Barron, Slaf, Dach, Newhook, Roy), but you have to let them cook. We can add another piece like Dach/Newhook and then, when your meal is almost finished, you taste it and add one or two small, but very significant ingredients.

Yes, a healthy Dach and Newhook all season with the addition of a Nylander, I'm very confident we are a playoff time and some of the younger players/prospects still have plenty of time to keep cooking and developing!

That's why teams should have an old crummy AHL vets signed who can clear waivers for that job, but it seems they don't think they do the job anymore. So, the next step is probably spare cardboard cutouts.

This is pure speculation. Dach has all the attributes to be our best center if he can add fortitude to his resume. Being a complete player includes being able to play games. I want to be able to say Dach is our best center at game 82.
Dach has most skill but his durability is in question

You can always trade picks and/or young players for established first line players. Whatever you try to build a contender using picks or trades or free agency you need a good GM to do so.

Vegas got Eichel using in part a 1st and Krebs. They got Stone for Brannstrom. You can't build a contender using picks only. Eventually you have to trade some of those picks or the players you picked with them to fill voids.

But one thing is certain when a team is trading an established first line talent that team will be more often than not rebuilding/retooling and will be looking for picks and young players (more than over the hill vets). It's easier to acquire a Mark Stone using a young player than using a Brandan Gallagher or Josh Anderson or David Savard which is why turning those assets for picks and young players would be ideal.
YES, Kent seems to be the master of not panicking, which is ok by me. me as fan want a guy now... lol
thing is many want Kent to hit the UFA market.. but we know lot's of the UFA's resign before they hit the market.
