Would you trade Caufield for a first?
Cause TZ scored 60+ twice and his 2 months younger. CC got 40.
TZ even leads in the « pace » calculations 60 to 56.

Would you?
Of course not.
It depends mainly of the context.

If we were to trade Caufield, what would you expect as a return?

Would you guys trade our 1st in 2024 for Trevor Zegras? In a similar fashion that NYI did for Horvat or Ottawa did for Chychrun.

We are two points away from a playoff spot, i doubt we will enter the TDL with a selling mentality nor do i think we will enter it with a pure buyer mentality.

Zegras would help push for the playoff and he would be here long term. If we are still in a similar spot (2-4 points away from the wild card) in late February, i think it is a type of move we should envision.
No because Zegras is a soft player that isn't built to win in the tough games. He's more concerned about magazine covers than winning battles

Nylander is a great player but I have doubts that he would be PPG with us. He seems to be way more involved in the play as well, but feels like just recently he frequently tried to avoid contact and be a perimeter player. I don’t feel comfortable giving up over 10 million to someone like that at 28 years old.

This would probably be a good time to interject w the cap expected to top $100M within a couple of seasons, Nylander will likely command upwards of $11M-$12M on the open market..

Someone (hello Hawks) will overpay out of desperation…

Question for all of you.

Hughes in the last 2 offseason has traded for Dach and Newhook. 2 1st rd drafted players early in their careers that were not fully developed and showed promised of breaking out.

Do you think Hughes will target a 3rd this offseason? If so who do you think it will be? 2 obvious names to me would be Zegras & Lafrenière

Not sure they makes sense or are targets but I am curious to see who you all think

Who would you say?

Kakko out of NY.. don't think Lafreniere is available anymore and don't think Zegras is the type of player they'd have any interest in.

Larkin 27 - Suzuki 24 y old = 3
DeBrincat 26- Caufield 22 = 4
That is how I ment it. I guess it is fair assumption that NS&CC duo will be 70+ in 3 years.
Maybe but until they do it, they havent. And DL did it at 23, AdB at 22.

Arent you twisting the numbers just a little for nothing? AdB is 26 since yesterday and CC will be 23 in 2 weeks.
Difference is not that huge.

Larkin isnt old and Suzuki isnt young.
Both AdB and Larkin scored 70+ on a 6 mil salary. Now paid for they have done, not for what they might do. Difference imho.

Were they really showing signs of breaking out? Both had stable at best production in 30s and even 20s. Was huge gamble.
Didnt pay off yet. Maybe next year. Lets not forget what was sent the other way. Wasnt it Romanov, 13th, 31st, 37th, a 3rd and a 4th?

Dach especially was a worthwhile gamble (esp in exchange for Romanov/13th OA which you've double counted in your tally).

Newhook, less so. I think Newhook is a Drouin replacement without the off-ice issues, that is to say a not very hard to play against 50ish point player. Maybe he has upside for more. His cap hit is great though which is a bit of a surprise considering he's a client of Kent Hughes' Quartexx Management.

Kakko missed a lots of time to injuries and last season was his only complete season. But if the price is cheap (I wouldn't pay a top 15 first round pick for him), I would take the gamble there.

I'd only acquire him at the cost it takes to bring in a young 3rd liner.. that's what he projects to be at this point, but yes we aren't giving a non play-off team 1st for Kakko.

guys, i like some of the proposals. Habs have so many picks i think they start packaging them + a young Dman for a young, scoring winger. I also think Hughes moves Dvorak - and unless they're blown out of the water, he might resign Monahan for like three years - especially if they're not convinced Dach is game ready next October.
will be a fascinating deadline if team continues to over perform

Dvorak isn't going anywhere, we have zero center depth right now and giving Monahan a 3 year deal would be a disaster.

so with 0 C depth, dvorak is the one to stay over monahan?
Who plays 1st PP? Who can play wing? who has more offence?
Personally I think if monahan stays healthy they might resign him.
They don't know how Dach will respond until he actually plays games and
the forward depth is so atrocious they both might end up staying

The thought of signing Nylander and not having to lose any picks or prospects is very attractive. If he can he had in the $10M range and added to a top 6 that includes Suzuki, Dach, Caufield, Slaf, and hopefully a top 10 draft forward, that’s really good depth throughout the lineup and a major take away from divisional rival Leafs who you know Nylander will light the f*** up every time we play them.

I’d imagine Dach could explode as a Center with Nylander as his winger, giving Habs two top lines and PPs to role out.
