Would we try and sign Toffoli this off season. He's on pace for his second straight 35 goal season. We need goals! Plus he liked playing in Montreal.
Maybe, but he'd definitely want a NMC.

Id welcome him back
maybe this.
To Carolina: John Gibson and Benoît Groulx

To Anaheim:Martin Necas and Jake Allen
To Montreal: Anti Raanta and 4 th rond pick from Anaheim
Can't imagine the Canes send Necas for Gibson.

Time will tell, but I won't be surprised at all if we see an elite or elite"ish" player make the Habs his preferred destination in the next 1-2 years...

Despite the narrative around here at times, reality is that there are many players who love the energy of playing in a city like Montreal... And with a young core that appears to be very bought in, playing for a HC & GM that approach player relationships from a much more modern/progressive pov, there will be young players out there that want to get away from the old school leadership cultures that are still prevalent in many organizations.

By summer of '25, I think we'll see just how impactful the Habs organizational shift has been & we'll start seeing the payoff both on the ice and in our player acquisition effectiveness.
Taxes, language, unfriendly climate for non french speaking folks (no one knows the wives or kids). I don't see it.

On the Carolina forum, there are many criticisms of Necas, his lack of intensity, his peripheral Play and his lack of defensive play. Many suggest trading it before its value drops...

Definite possibility. It's not far off.

I think they might look to deal him for a pesser point producer who brings more.

Unfortunately for them and the league in general players who can play and are tough players are rare.

Nylander was super soft and a perimeter player and now he's looking really good. Did last year and is this year.

Always hard to tell as there's a chance to have egg on your face either way.

Anaheim won't want any of those players. There is no match. They don't need d and Habs don't have any forwards of interest that they would trade. Newhook or Dach and 1st.

The question was why Verbeek was at the game...

If he was scouting anything, Dach, Newhook, picks & prospects would not be it.

Insert long list of non francophone players who have signed up to play in Montreal... Might help with the picture ;)

MB signed a lot of players who were either garbage that no one else wanted or because MB offered far more than anyone else would.
And it's more of a case of will the players Hughes really wants be willing to sign in Montreal or just Canada in general.

I wonder if the Canes would go for Primeau or Allen. They have Kotechkov and Perets already so I guess Allen would make more sense. We could take back Ranta, send him to Laval to be with Dobes.

Maybe we can get something worthwhile for that. They have a lot of talented prospects. Id target FUS or Rykov personally.

And how many of those were good players that had something to add to the team and not at the tail end of their careers?

Hopefully some discussions are taking place around Zegras, and Hughes' offer is lower than what he wants so he wanted to get his eyes on what's being offered to see if he can be convinced...

Anderson, Ylonen, Dvorak, Evans, Savard, Kovacevic... Some kind of package from those pieces + flames 1st & ?
thats bad for the Ducks they are also rebuilding like us and im sure you woudlnt trade Caufield for any of those players

for Z they would ask for players like Dach,CC,Hutson,Reinbacher,Habs 1st etc but not older useless guys like Anderson or Dvorak

Friedman says Montreal is definitely willing to do something if it makes sense.

In regardless to the potential of trading goalies.
im sure HuGo have looked at trading all 3 goalies but truth is none of them are proven #1s so they simply dont have much value maybe a 3rd?

I think they will.

Gainey landed several top UFAs. MBs incompetence had everything to do with players not wanting to be a part of his foxhole environment... Why would any free agents with options choose to go to a team that constantly throws players under the bus publicly? Different times now. I bet Hughes won't have trouble being competitive for any player he targets.

Um, perhaps you should look closer at the age of UFA status & the age of player decline.

Gotta take the context into consideration when making assessments

And they would get a very good laugh. Zegras isn't worth anything close to Dach or Caufield. He's a reclamation project at this point, he's an incredibly flawed player. He got benched last year and early in the year because he was 100-0 offensive-defensive, and this year he started shooting at like .5% because he's just not a good enough player and way too much of a perimeter player to be good on both sides of the ice. He needs to cherry pick hard to produce.

He's 100% the same as Drouin, as I said in 2019 before the draft. Im betting he has more career success than Drouin simply due to the fact he won't have the same mental struggles as Joe did playing in MTL, but he's never going to amount to anything more than a 2nd liner that needs to his coach to bend universes to make him a positive player.

During Caufields struggles, we see him produce at slightly below Zegras's career high, they are not the same quality of players.

Yeah I would buy-low on Zegras but you've got the right read about his unsustainable playing style to date.

Wonder if Kings would be willing to move on from Turcotte, they are also looking for a 3rd goalie. Really surprised to see him do this poorly.

Even if that's the case, I feel the GM got his reclamation project already in Newhook. Trucotte is just much further from the league.
