Matheson has skipped a lots of practices in November. That's usually something done when you are injured...

25-32 mins of TOI (rounded off) in 5 out of his 6 games in December.

25-27 mins of TOI (rounded off) in 7 out of 14 games in Nov, several consecutive.

Should he be playing this much?

He has been missing quite a few games in the prior 4 seasons (even after making allowances for compressed regular season Covid schedules). And we saw for ourselves how he missed a little less than half a season’s worth of games last year.

Why is he being deployed on big minutes in consecutive games? He’s not that durable.

Nope, but MSL micro-manage the kids minutes and play his vets to fill the gaps so that's the end result.

It help the tank, so we shouldn't be complaining about it yet.:sarcasm:

If we want Matheson to have lower TOI, Hughes should get another D vet and send down more of the kids to the AHL to join Xhekaj.

Sounds like Martin Necas is a poor fit in Carolina and fans aren't excited about committing to his next contract. Expectations are that there may be issues resigning him as an RFA and a trade may be on the table. Doesn't fit Brind'Amour's dump/grind system very well and he has yet to be given a shot at C - despite stating his desire to do so.

Carolina needs top line players, are desperate for a goalie, and lack grit/physicality. This was meant to be a big year for them and there could be a lot of turnover this offseason.

Any thoughts on offers for Necas?

Necas doesn't move the needle much for me. Rather have the return we would get on Monahan actually

They're riding him at 25 minutes per game when I think he should be around 20. The pauses are simply because some folks know it and fear the additional risks of injury coming with the additional shifts on the ice.

True, it's a big drawback but we wouldn't really need him to be a grinder. We need talent.

We've got no one like him on the team or as a prospect. PPG potential with speed and versatility offensively. At 24, there may be some room for his game to mature and I'd be interested to see what he can do as a C.

This is where I wish Anderson was still producing as I think he'd be a great fit in Carolina.

Doesn't need to be a grinder, he just has to care and not be a pushover. Caufield is half his size but has so much more compete, he's not a grinder either. It's also on brand with what HuGo want to build here. Of course that could change as well, you see a guy like Nylander who was seen as the softest player ever but now is the heart and soul of the team and the only forward who consistently cares. That being said, it's not a guarantee to happen to every player of that nature.

If Necas was available at a reasonable price and isn't going to be paid handsomely, then I'm fine with it but it's not realistic.

The perfect candidate was Pettersson who apparently was going to request a trade if Canucks shit to bed which they haven't and that sucks for us because he's a player I don't mind giving up any contract and assets for.

I'm not expecting us to do anything at the deadline besides trade Monahan as we only have one retention slot. Next year, Dvorak and Savard will likely need to get retained.

Hughes might want to trade him this year... although he does bring some nice leadership and LHD is where we could really use some space...

Heard Danny Dubé say how much of an impact Savard has in practices. He makes the coaching staff’s job a lot easier as he goes all out on each of the reps they’re asking the players to do.

When a vet like Savard puts himself through that kind of effort and dedication, it sets a standard for younger players.
