Carolina just lost 4 in a row are just outside of the playoff, they don't really have significant injuries and have some pretty good competition (DET, NJ, TB).
Their best goalie Andersen a .894 Sv% and injured with blood clotting, Raanta .860 SV%, Kochetkov SV% 8.73...
KK after a hot start like 15pts in 16 games is now 2pts in his last 13games, he is the worst FO% at 46.5 everyone else is above 53% is ice time was cut significantly in the last 2 games, considering how cheap they are plus they don't have much cap space so he might be the odd man out since they will have Teravainen, Necas, Skjei, Pesce going to UFA (Which all play bigger roles) likely all looking for raises with no one of signifiance coming off the books. Carolina should be in peaking with lot of importantplayer being 29yo and over( 4 being UFA), seem like they might have miss there shot by not being aggressive enough in the last few years, they likely to push this year.

MTL has 3 goalie above .900 SV% and 3 C above 52 FO% that could take KK minutes which could fit in the cap. Both team have lot of prospect and pick to add has needed.

Because of the KK situation or history between the 2 teams I'm not sure either are trying to actively help one another, but there seem to be needs and a fit...

Carolina could clear up to 4.4M$ + cap increase which would help them resign anyone they need too and get a goalie to help they playoff push this year without really affecting their roster.
Mtl take anthoer reclamation, hoping KK being a great 3rd C or maybe a top 6 winger who fit the timely...

Allens 3.85M$ +1 year
Monahan 1,45M$ (UFA) or Dvorak 4.45M$ + 1 year or Evans 1.7M$ + 1 year
+ pick or prospect or Pearson 50%

KK 4.82M$ +5 years
Andersen 3.4M$ +1 year or Raanta 1.5M$ (UFA)
+Prospect

Interesting trade proposal and congratulations for the creativity.

I want Nylander badly and ready to pay a premium.

Draft that top 10 pick this summer.

Trade for another dominant forward in 2025 offseason dangling our collection of 2025 and 2026 picks and one of our young redondant D.

Carolina's netminding is putrid. They're going to have to pony up more than a late round pick to get Allen.
I would take a 3rd for Allen. What we gave up for him.

The forward they asked about must been either Monahan or Evans. Doubt it was Dvorak. Gallagher and Anderson are unmovable. Reading between the lines I got the impression Harris was the defenseman Montreal wanted to include.

I would move Matheson where his trade value is so high. But Pagnotta doubt Habs move him. Matheson is good in dressing room for young players he said.

Save yourself the angst - Nylander either extends w Leafs or signs w a U.S. team, he’s not signing w Habs

Nylander could sign with the Habs. But with the cap going up, he'll for sure sign with the Leafs.

And it will be a very risky contract long term. He could easily fall off at some point in his 30s.

That would be extremely stupid from Habs. We are not ready, wait one more year and once we offload Savard, Dvorak and Armia, you can sign guys like Rantanen or Draisaitl.

But that can be said with any player. He'll only be 35 when it's done and given the age our athletes currently live in with the extreme care given to their diets and physical well being, 35 is not old anymore.

I don't think he's in our plans but nevertheless

And the 25 minutes that this skilled defenceman plays on average every game.

No tier 1/2 player will ever willingly sign in Mtl as UFA….

It’s like the Raptors Kawhi or Blow Jays Ohtani wishful thinking scenarios…

Yes, most long term UFA contracts don't work out well.

Habs could sign him. Money is all that matters to Nylanders. Offer the most money and your in. HuGo would never do that though.

Nonsense.

In the cap era the Habs have signed Hamrlik, Cammalleri, Giontas, Radulov, Toffoli, etc they've done well overall.

Depends when they're handed out don't you think?

It's true that most UFA contracts don't work out. That includes the contracts that went out to players that were overpaid by teams that outbid Montreal, such as Briere, Lecavalier, etc. because other teams overpaid for those players by a lot we now have people saying that UFAs avoid Montreal.

No team other than Wings showed any interest in Radulov. The others weren’t in the Nylander mold of top tier talents.

As Gord Miller repeatedly states “it’s well known in NHL circles top end players especially want no part of Cdn markets”

Depends when they're handed out and structured.... don't you think?
I mean even Tavares isn't playing like a 10M player and it's hurting the Leaf's capspace and ability to build a roster to not just be good in the regular season but be good in the playoffs. And Tavares is still a point per game player.
