There's wild speculation about Savard moving. He either moves by Friday or in the offseason. Then some bums like Armia and Evans may be interesting for a contender. Jake Allen's name has been floating out there for months.
I don't understand this sentiment. Do you think you can get a better 4th centerman at his price point?

Exactly.

  • Jake Allen isn't going until the off-season
  • Brendan Gallagher is not a tradeable asset
  • Joel Armia won't go with term, he has to be moved in the summer.
  • Dvorak is on LTIR
  • Jake Evans can't go because we don't have the health down the middle to move him.
  • Jordan Harris trade unlikely to happen pre-deadline.
  • Kovacevic MIGHT go.
  • Savard MIGHT go if someone gets desperate, but unlikely.
  • Pearson might go at the 11th hour to a bubble team who can take his full salary.
  • They'll use a retention slot to broker a deal if they don't have to retain on a Savard deal.

That's it, that's all.
1) why for Allen?
2) Doubt that's enough of a reason to keep Evans if the offer is right.

Agreed with the rest.

Yes. 4Cs are not a valuable commodity for anyone other than a contender at the TDL.

1 - He has term and a salary that isn't great for goaltending when his play hasn't been stellar this year. Most insiders and people connected to the Habs have said the goalie market has gone cold and the Habs don't wanna use a retention slot this year on Allen for the marginal return.
2 - I don't think the right offer is coming for Evans for them to pull another center out of the line-up that currently features 3 and keep Laval in tact.

Having an experienced backup for a PO run is never a bad thing.
For sure but teams do not have 3 millions of cap space to spend on that and i don't think KH will retain the return wont be good enough. We need the retention spots for Savard and Dvorak at the deadline 2025 the return will be better. I still believe we will buy Allen out this summer if needed we wont retain on his contract.

1) I believe Kent has explicitly said he would like the three goalie tandem resolved by the trade deadline

2) This is far more plausible but will depend on the offers.

Maybe Primeau is the one to go then.

In all honesty, trading Savard alone would be enough for me for the TDL, just like when I was clamoring for Lekhonen to be traded in 2022.

Hughes was on a podcast with LeBrun and said he was comfortable waiting until the offseason.

HuGo can always take a cap dump back in an Allen trade to reduce the cap hit but it would likey need to be an expiring contract.

They can try picking-up Johansen (expensive) or Anderson-Dolan (RFA) from waivers if they need another center.

They could but they'd only do that if they have a strong and tangible offer for Evans now, I'm not sure that will be the case.

I'm not saying he WON'T be traded, but it's unlikely.

So expect it to be quiet because it likely will be, things will have to ratchet up heavily for moves to happen involving Montreal.

Market forces and our available assets don't create the optimal trading conditions for us.

I'd take a gamble with Johansen honestly. You never know. He's not that old i mean a revival season next year and you can turn him into something at the deadline. At worst he's gonna be a vet center on a 3rd line for a year and will make Evans expandable next summer to free a sport for Beck in 2025-2026. I prefer Newhook as a winger personally.

I would try hard to get Will Cuylle.
What NYR would be interresed in ?

Maybe : Struble + Primeau or Farrell could be a start ?

Cuylle plays on the third line
Struble in the top 4
Primeau and Farrell are not doing to bad, decent prospects to add to Struble.

Cuylle will bring grid and size.
Good luck trying to get him he's got I'm a Post Season Player written all over him.
The Rangers love him.

They could do the center pick-up so RHP doesn't play more games at center too. And send Roy down before the deadline so he is eligible for the AHL playoffs to have the roster spot for the waiver pick-up.

They should then waive the mother-f***er. And let the two others ride this out till the end to give them more games and gain more experience. Riding on 3 goalies for a whole year has had to be one of the stupidiest crap I have ever seen.

They did this so they could display Allen to be traded but now he has become terrible and nobody wants him and you wasted a year of Primeau's development.
it backfired, he's been exposed and his value has plummeted
