Is Lawson Crouse a falling knife as in someone we should be staying away from?
In the past I was a big supporter of us going out and getting Lawson......but what the hell is going on with this guy? Big drop-off this season in production for him.

Verhaeghe, Lundell, and Luostarinen don't have NMC. If Zito was ruthless he could package Verhaeghe, another piece, and a first before Verhaeghes new contract starts for Tkachuk...

Another thing I need to mention is the Panthers play an extremely aggressive physical style, which takes a bigger toll on them as they start to age

Verhaeghe almost certainly has one amended into the final year of his current contract, even if all the cap websites don't list it.

It's common place for superstars who get NMCs on extensions to have them added to the year they are playing through. The exception being if it's an RFA year.

It usually doesn't get reported in the media because it's rarely relevant.

Ottawa would be wise to shop Batherson and Norris nonetheless.
unless someone stupidly overpays there is no reason to consider moving batherson, guy got 66 points points last year and is on pace for something similar this year for a cap hit of roughly 5 million. He may not be an elite first liner but that production for his contract is amazing value

with the oilers needing a goalie badly i wonder if we can trade forsberg and get something in return. Obviously us trading forsberg is risky but if we could get a forward out of it i think it would be worth it

forsberg + something for arvidsson

arvidsson is cost controlled at 4 million for next season too and gives middle 6 production

I think there would be a market for Forsberg, but we may have to take back cap, and the return will be something like a 3rd to 7th round pick. If it's a hockey trade, we aren't getting Arvidsson. I think that we would get something like a bottom 6 forward or bottom pairing D.

I don't think it makes much sense to trade him because with Ullmark's up and down health, goalie depth is worth more to us than say a 4th round pick. If Forsberg was still playing like he was earlier in the season, then my opinion would be different.

There aren't a lot of goalies available, but look at what Wedgewood went for, a 6th round pick and a fringe NHL goalie for depth. That's probably Forsberg with retention would be worth. So I'm not sure I see the point unless we are out of the playoffs and sellers.

Crouse is your classic "good" player on a bad team. He produced for Arizona when they had little to no other options. Once they added better players like Cooley, Guenther, etc., and he doesn't get all the offensive opportunities his production drops through the floor.

At $4M+ for another couple of years I would stay well away unless it was in a trade for Perron or something of that nature. He's a crasher and banger, anything else is unlikely on a decent team.

Nice chart but I’d say we keep JBD for another year and Yakemchuk is in the A for a full season. He’s never been a + player in his career in the W and not making Team Canada is a sign his 2 way play is not there yet.

Still have high hopes, but I don’t see him making the Sens next year apart from injury call up or a late season add. And with Matinpalo arriving I think he allows Ottawa to buy a year of development for Yak which he needs and is huge for the team

thats fair. It definitely is risky for us to move forsberg because of the reasons you stated. Like if we are getting a 4th or later pick or a bottom pairing dman/4th liner then it isnt worth it.

Was just trying to see if there was a fit where we could get a forward. I didnt suggest jeff skinner since he has a ntc. Oilers are really the only team out west where it would make sense for us. The rest of the teams that could use a goalie are in the east and are very close to us in the standings

If yak isnt a regular i think his spot would go to sebrango who will need waivers or we might bring jbd back if he doesnt ask for a lot.

I dont think cousins comes back because he was a near end of fa signing for us and i wouldnt be surprised if someone offers him a bit more dollars with the higher cap space.

I understand why staios would want to have a better cap situation and cap flexibility going into the season but i really hope we arent sitting on 6.2 million in cap space. 2-2.5 is sufficient and we can try and use that to supplement our scoring in that bottom 6 because that is a drastic drop off

In the event that Brady is being moved to FLD, Lundell better be coming back. Vergaeghe would probably come back for cap reasons, but he's a product of guys around him.

If we can offload a bad contract for him, he'd be a good pick up. He'd have that intangible grit that large fanbase segments think only Brady or Greig provide.

It'd be awesome if we could move Forsberg for Arvidsson. He's not suited for the 3rd or 4th line where Edmonton has him right now and he'd be getting top 6 minutes in Ottawa. Forsberg despite being up and down, would provide more stability in net than Pickard.
