Doubt we deal Matheson this year. Monahan is probably a deadline day deal unless we get a good offer that we feel is too good to wait on
Monahan play has fell way off from start of season. Been playing with Anderson and Pearson most likely reason. Marty Started him on Suzuki wing last night but did not play well.

Would be nice if an elite player handcuffs his team to only get traded to us.
Celebrini, Dry Saddle, a player who only wants to get traded to us … it’s starting to look a lot like Christmas, miracles time is here! :sarcasm:

Reality is unless it’s a Quartexx client, someone Hughes represented or who hails from Massachusetts, or who was coached by Hughes or played with his sons, that guy ain’t comin’.

Celebrini ain’t happenin’ either. Only injuries will hold MSL in check and even then, our chances of winning the lottery will be slim.

I would welcome the addition of an elite player one day but I can’t imagine how this group might pull it off.

What team is willing to pay anything for Matheson unless he cuts down dramatically on his defensive lapses. I doubt he'd be a target for a team with Cup aspirations.

Time will tell, but I won't be surprised at all if we see an elite or elite"ish" player make the Habs his preferred destination in the next 1-2 years...

Despite the narrative around here at times, reality is that there are many players who love the energy of playing in a city like Montreal... And with a young core that appears to be very bought in, playing for a HC & GM that approach player relationships from a much more modern/progressive pov, there will be young players out there that want to get away from the old school leadership cultures that are still prevalent in many organizations.

By summer of '25, I think we'll see just how impactful the Habs organizational shift has been & we'll start seeing the payoff both on the ice and in our player acquisition effectiveness.

Tanner Pearson for Anthony Mantha ?

Pearson was good at the start and has cooled off, while Mantha has been better lately.

Habs add some cap, but Mantha likely carries more value at the deadline.

I think it's not worthwhile for Hughes to exhaustively scavenge for tinkering opportunities if it means maybe getting an extra 3rd at the end of it all. He should focus on the big picture.

Devil is in the details...

I think the big picture is all about incremental upgrades & improvement.

The more consistently you do that, the more buffer you have to take the occasional big swing when those rare opportunities arise.

So, it's not either/or, but rather both (keep adding assets while keeping eye on the prize)

agree We aren’t rebuilding with a extra 3rd but at the same time he need to trade asset like Monahan, Pearson they aren’t getting us piece we need, but asset than could than be able flip. every pick or $ of cap space he is able to scavenge could lead to being able to make the next or a bigger move.

Unless Mantha starts playing like the Mantha from 3-4 years ago, I would say playoff teams would be more interested in Pearson for a playoff run.

Pearson is a guy who could play in a contending teams bottom six and help on the PK and chip in some offense, while adding veteran leadership given he's won a cup.. teams know exactly what they'll get with him. Mantha is soft and adds nothing when he isn't scoring.

Wonder if we end up seeing Evans dealt at the deadline. His contract isn't very expensive and he can help a team with faceoffs and on the PK, he's also versatile and can play the wing. He's been bumped up in the lineup and playing more minutes which has resulted in him chipping in more offensively the last 3 games.

Owen Beck could be knocking on the door next year and someone like Mitchell Stephens can just fill in at C the rest of the year.
