It would certainly be interesting but i cannot be more sure than our own 1st this year is going nowhere. Except for a young star player under 25 yo (which won't happen).

But next year's 1st + Calgary's (or Florida's 1st) might be something to keep an eye on.

I definately think summer of 2025 will be the big turn around for Habs. Lots of bad contracts will be over. Some interesting UFA and we will still have alot of picks and prospects to deal from.
I agree, but at the same time if you have a chance to get Crosby you do it. Our kids could learn from a real generational pro. Jerseys would sell like crazy and tv ratings would be at an all time high.

It's absolutely absurd that a team like Edmonton, who has drafted horribly outside of McDavid (1OA) and Draisaitl (3OA) won't move their first round pick to bolster their line up
Yes that is what all the dummy gm's like Bergevin do want to keep all their picks and prospects instead of going for it like Tampa and Pittsburgh.

Yeah absolutely. At the same time, Crosby won't cost a top 5 pick in a draft. He is still pretty good but he is 36 yo with 1 year left on is actual contract and wants a 2-3 years extension on top of that, which would bring him to 40 yo. It is a big risk for any team unless he takes a big paycut.

Kaliyev for Primeau be good trade for both clubs

I would love Kaliyev, and not that Primeau is an untouchable, but I would prefer keeping Primeau. He's shown this year that he has the potential to be a back up. And like Monty, he might show that by 26 years old, he can be more.

Tampa is everyone's preferred destination :)

And with Sergachev being out, Hanifin could come in and help their LD. It's just that Tampa is almost out of assets to make them compelling.

If I'm Edmonton (or really any genuine contender - just using them as an example) I'm giving MTL a 1st if we retain at 50%.

Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Savard
Kulak - Desharnais/Ceci?

Like others have already mentioned, you don't just get Savard for this cup run but next years as well. Sure, he's slowing down a bit but in the playoffs the game tightens up and there isn't nearly as much time or space. If David Savard is who I'm throwing on to give Bouchard a rest I'm feeling comfortable which in my opinion says a lot.

Also, he was never particularly fast anyways?? It's not like he's struggling to keep up with the pace of the game, he's a smart player and positions himself well. He sacrifices himself every game and we've been out of the playoff hunt for a while now .. I actually think he'd find another gear to elevate to if he's surrounded by players who know they have a genuine chance at the cup.

If we were in the playoff picture, I wouldn't even consider trading him.

Could see Savard and Evans ending up in Edmonton as a package - checks 2 of the 3 or 4 boxes they're looking to fill - would hurt our centre depth to finish the year and not sure what the return would look like
Nothing Edm has in terms of prospects floats my boat …. And sorry late 1st round picks don’t do much for me

Yeah, Hanifin to Tampa feels pretty natural. The only problem is that Tampa doesn't have much prospect/draft pick capital to trade anymore and Brisebois might not be willing to part with the couple actual prospects they have left. We'll see if he's able to get creative enough to make it work. I can't see it happen unless Tampa puts Isaac Howard on the table though.

TBay has the ultimate asset….the market locale

IF Hanifin is only interested in being dealt to TBay as being reported, Cgy are screwed and will have to take what’s being offered, so quality of assets won’t have much bearing

I'm not talking about the advantages Tampa has. I'm talking about the Lightning not having much assets left for Calgary to take advatange of.

That’s my point the player (Hanifin) has all the leverage here, and if he says he ONLY will sign an extension with TBay, Cgy can either get whatever UFA to be market bears or that + a little bit which TBay can provide if that’s the only destination Hanifin will sign an extension with

TBay can offer 2026 1st + 2nd rounder in 2025 + 2026

I keep reading here that end of 1st round pick are not interesting and every time i'm like whatever. I'm kind of lost here. If end of first round picks are not interesting what's the solution? Waiting 10 years for Savard and Anderson to improve and become elite talents and make us contender? Because you wont get a top pick or top prospect for those guys. That simply will not happen.

People act like if end of 1st round picks never become top 6 forward or top 4 dmen. From 2008 to 2017 (ignoring the last 6 drafts cause players are too young) here's a list of some players drafted in the first round after the 20th position (21 to 30) :

Jordan Eberle
John Carlson
Kyle Palmieri
Kevin Hayes
Evgeni Kuznetson
Charlie Coyle
Brock Nelson
Philip Danault
Mike Matheson
Brady Skjei
Andrei Burakovsky
Shea Theodore
David Pasternak

Adran Kempe
Brock Boeser
Travis Konecny
Tage Thompson
Jake Oettinger

Any of those players in their prime would help us more in 4-5 years than any of our over the hill vets not named Matheson. That's 18 players out of 101 players so close to 20%. I left out a couple of guys who were borderline like Rickard Rackell (inconsistent thru their career). I'm still speechless of the amount of our fans s****** on a 20% chance to get a good player who will play for us for the next 10 to 15 years.

What's the solution? I don't get it. Why would you let Savard walk at the end of next season without getting anything? What does it accomplish? If a 1st is offered for Savard KH should move 100%. If not then wait next year. If a 1st is offered for Anderson KH should move 100%. If not wait. It's like our fans have PTSD from 30 years of bad drafting. It's a new management the slate should be clean.

KH hold everyone ransom... we need talent back
Would like to see someone come back, as much as a high draft pick..............we have those.....
Hoping for a kid, who just may not fit with another organization, and has not been given a chance so to speak..............Dach and Newhook are somewhat examples of that.............

I just don't see any takers looking for what we are selling.................other than maybe Savard, who will be expensive to part with.

Do you guys think that HuGo would sell Anderson off to a contender, 20 cents on the dollar just to clear some cap for next season? And offer the 5.5M to Monahan?
