Some teams didn't want to pay the price for a rental like Tanev. You don't pay a 1st or good prospect for an average D rental like Tanev or Savard. But for two years?? it's a bit different.

Teams like Edmonton, Toronto and Vancouver will be contenders for this year's playoffs but also next year's. They are also kinda tight under salary cap. It makes more sense for them to pay a 1st this year and doesn't have to pass through the same process next TDL. Also, what i've been noticing lately is canadians teams seem to like dealing with each other.

I don't think TBay make sense and i doubt Habs deal with Toronto, unless they pay too big to pass on.

So i would say Edmonton is the most likely trade partner for Savard, followed by Vancouver. Then TBay and Toronto.

IMO it’s all going to come down to how much pressure Shana-plan is feeling from ownership about his job security - same Holland w Oilers ownership

IF Leafs and / or Edm need a long playoff run to secure their GMs employment with the org, they’ll sacrifice futures and that will impact market price w potential bidding war

Lots of chatter about Savard. Probably because he is the only realistically moveable piece. If he goes, I will miss the big lug... soft puck eating kung fu panda. And if Leafs want him they gotta pay premium. Top 6 forward... nothing less. A legit, top 6. Not Josh Anderson top 6.

It's absolutely absurd that a team like Edmonton, who has drafted horribly outside of McDavid (1OA) and Draisaitl (3OA) won't move their first round pick to bolster their line up
They will this season or the players may go into full revolt. I felt they were making a point earlier this season with the start they had.

Savard at 50% for 2 seasons, this is a luxury on a top tier team. there is definitively great value there
And if they can find a 3rd team to take 50% of 1.7M for the next two years (i.e. 850k), then they can get him at an 850k cap hit over the next 2 years.

To MTL: Jack Campbell + ?
To EDM: Josh Anderson

We save 500k on the cap and get a package of futures. Anderson doesn't fit MSL's system.
Oilers trade Campbell's contract for Anderson's which is only 500k more, and get a player that could be useful to them, giving them more depth at forward and some size and speed for the playoffs.

Well at 850K for Savard for 2 playoff run... that is pure indecency. Now if you want to make this even more fun, MTL could take a bad contract too in the trade, making Savard virtually free ;)

They traded their 1st last year for Ekholm. Not sure if they do it this year, the market doesn't seems to be there...

One thing about Hughes he covers every possible angle to drive value. LOVE IT

Boston in the process of talking extension with Swayman.

Fitzgerald has called on pretty much every goalie, even Jarry

Seravalli adds that he has been told prices have dropped a bit since January

I've been naming Kaliyev for a while in this thread. Some like him, some don't want him. I'd take him. Although if I'm giving both Pearson and Armia while also retaining on Armia this year and next year, I'd like more from LA than just Kaliyev. I'm not talking about a 1st rounder, but at least another asset, maybe like a 2nd or 3rd round pick.
Kaliyev for Primeau be good trade for both clubs

I still think Holland is much more conservative when it comes to moving 1sts at the deadline compared to other GM's. For better or for worse.

I'm just having fun here, but if I was in his place, I would try do to just that:
Savard (50% retain) + (25% retain elsewhere) + b level prospect
vs
Good offensive prospect + cap dump

On another note... is it me or it is very quiet? Seems to recall that last years there where more deal made in the last few days leading to the TDL

Could see Savard and Evans ending up in Edmonton as a package - checks 2 of the 3 or 4 boxes they're looking to fill - would hurt our centre depth to finish the year and not sure what the return would look like

I had this crazy idea that we could put up a package with both our 1sts and trade for Crosby. Hopefully somehow include Anderson.

Then sign Stamkos also.

Idk if it could work, but one can dream

Yes but they will have to give up part of the return tlo the facilitating team.

I'd rather take back a bad contract, and get a first plus a prospect for Savard retained for two runs.

It would certainly be interesting but i cannot be more sure than our own 1st this year is going nowhere. Except for a young star player under 25 yo (which won't happen).

But next year's 1st + Calgary's (or Florida's 1st) might be something to keep an eye on.

I definately think summer of 2025 will be the big turn around for Habs. Lots of bad contracts will be over. Some interesting UFA and we will still have alot of picks and prospects to deal from.

850K$ for 1 season + 20 games won't cost much. Maybe a 3rd at worst but most probably a 4th.

And we can do both to boost the value even more.
