I'm not sure being more interested in drinking than video games is a good thing. The whole concept of the alpha male of the 60ies-80ies is stupid and mostly perpetuated by kids who were not alive back in the days. I grew up in the 70ies and 80ies and back then the only thing men did was sit in front of a TV watching sports while drinking beers after working (being exploited) for 8 hours. Homer is a very good and totally accurate parody of what a man was in the 70ies and 80ies. Men used to drink and drive all the time they were even proud of it. They used to smoke like a power plant. They did not bother taking care of the kids. They expected their wife to stay at home doing the laundry and cook. The men of the past are glorified to a stupid extend. Loved my dad but he was a flawed old school man. He changed a lot over the years thought and was more modern toward the end.
Road beers.
Thats me, except for the not looking after kids part.
I worked for 40 years and nope, I wasn't exploited. Problem is that young people now want to work 4 hours a day from home and then complain that they can't afford a house.
I mean some are, but this is the typical view point of someone older who doesn't have to deal with the current landscape of work and buying a house.
I'm old enough that I've worked in factories when they were still good, but now see them and other jobs as they are. Cutting everything to make more money. Why ? Because a good worker means f*** all at this point.
Companies will ask the good worker to do more rather than ask the shit employee to step up.
I have a house thankfully because my parents both passed away, got their house, sold it and was able to use some of the money I got as a down-payment. Got my house for around 250,000 I'm 2018. Similar houses in my area, a little bit more updated were selling for around 375,000. In 4 years my house has gone up 100k in value. Did wages match that ? Nope.
Worked jobs were it goes far beyond 40 hours a week. Not a flex, but that's what the job required. I left that area to take a pay cut to have better hours to spend time with my family instead of working my life away to afford the same type of life you likely enjoyed decades ago and not having to work 1.5 - 2 times the hourly rate.
I've seen factories have big Christmas parties where the company brought in big screen tvs, kayaks, other household appliances and extra paid time off thar could be won. Now you get a pizza party if you're lucky.
Today's work environment f***ing sucks and its only getting worse.
