Contested matters always have a fallout. There is rarely certainty in law.

What the Hawks are getting is a legal opinion on the enforceability of their team policies and whether their contractual terms with Perry allow them to proceed to a contractual termination following their assessment that an action has taken place that meets the applicable legal test or threshold of what constitutes a contractual breach according to the legal jurisdiction the contract is subject to.

If the PA is unsatisfied that the alleged actions by Perry meet the standards of a contractual breach or if they deem the outcome may produce a bad precedent that would handcuff their members in a future matter, then they will contest the Hawks’ termination, further to having obtained their own legal opinion on the matter.

It’s rarely ever black and white and as outside observers about a matter we are only obliquely informed about, we are in an even lesser position to form a reliable opinion.
Good points. As it relates to the cap hit, I think if Perry fights it and the PA helps and all that and they win, CHI will be on the hook to pay him his salary (or whatever settlement they reach) but Perry will be free to sign with another team if the NHL does not suspend him.

Hopefully things quiet down. This season stinks in terms of vibes, we don't need more crap shovelled on.

True. Whatever Perry did he couldn't have picked a worse time to do it.

Perry’s salary is not a huge consideration from the Hawks’ standpoint since it’s a one-year deal and part of it has already been paid out.

It’s more about whether they can get rid of his cap hit via a successful contractual termination.

On Perry’s end, you rightly point out what’s at stake — he wouldn’t want his career to end on account of this incident and by having the ability to continue with another club, he’d have an opportunity to try and redeem himself and ultimately perform as much damage control to his legacy as he can given how he otherwise has the profile of a future HOF inductee.

I would think that another major consideration in the PA’s ultimate decision to contest the termination would have to be another element you raised — whether or not the NHL intends to suspend him.

If the PA were to contest the termination and convince a court that there was no contractual breach or that the Hawks’ policies are not enforceable or insufficient to trigger a contractual breach based on the applicable facts, then the NHL would have no standing upon which to issue a suspension.

Didn't Perry and Getzlaf once get into a bar right as team Canada players many years ago?

I think as we move forward, athletes are going to see guaranteed contracts terminated for moral and ethical reasons deemed by their employer as bad behavior etc more often.....
All of this surprises me with Perry, a 20 year vet who knows how to conduct himself.......and as a married dude, with a lot to lose if indeed the stories are true.

Drinking, and partying etc that was once accepted behaviors, is probably not going to be accepted behaviors moving forward.............players will need to be careful how they behave.
Lawyers, will have a ball with this stuff!!

Anyhow, scouts looking at goalies should be the hot topic!!!

My take for Habs trade in off season:
Hughes will trade for Anton Lundell who is a RFA after this season. 2020 12th overall, 6-1, 185 lbs, currently 3C, but can play LW.
Panthers have only 9 players signed for next year with only 29M projected cap space. Sam Reinhart (6,5M) and Brandon Montour (3,5M) become UFA if they do not sign him.

The Oilers can't actually afford to give a lot for Montembeault.

I guess maybe Harris, Montembeault, for Holloway, Foegele, 2nd, 3rd?

Unless their 1st is on the table.

Key words are “moving forward” but for Perry’s generation and prior it was not only accepted behavior it was an absolute must behavior.

There been lots of discussion not only w NHL types but also FIFA about this generation of player not interested in drinking or going out preferring staying in for gaming

still think EDM won't touch hab goalies.
I think Hughes wants to trade Allen or Primeau. But I'm not sure there is much interest.

We'll see. Nice to see that Button thinks Allen would be good for a team like the Sabres. I would think Allen has value at 50% retained. But, do we want to use one of our 2 remaining retention spots for next year on Allen? Not sure the return will be worth it. By next year we'll probably want to move Savard and Dvo at 50% retained, and they should have more value than Allen.

Believe me, I would not do it, but Bill Zito might think differently and he does not have a lot of space to negotiate. Reinhart is 27pts in 22 games, he will be asking for 8,5. Montour was great last year, I guess 7M is realistic. If you sign Lundell to 3M bridge deal, he will be left with 10M for 10 players.
Zito can trade Bobrovsky, but it will cost him. Their core is in their prime 25-29, they want to compete now.
Of course, you need to prepare very intriguing trade package, but we have some good chips.

This was the second game in a row in CLB.... seems to me they are looking at D-man in CLB not a goalie.

They could have been there to a D for the previous game and stay for a G in MTL, but that seems unlikely

I don’t think the Habs will trade Monty.

If I’m Edmonton, I’d offer a 1st to get rid of Campbell before Drai gets paid. Allen would go back the other way. Not a big upgrade for them, but - less term, and he hasn’t fallen apart like Campbell has.

I think the Habs would say ‘no’ - they’re a little too far along in the rebuild to do this. Still, I think it’s the most likely scenario between these 2 teams.
