If the habs want to come out of the bottom 5 starting next year, a few things need to happen:

1. Healthy Dach that continues on his progression
2. A more consistent Slafkovsky
3. One of the young D-men developing into a top pairing D-man.
4. Trading for more scoring talent in the top 6. They need a 65-75 point player at minimum.

#3 is key though. Even if 1,2, 4 happen, if your D is still developing and you don't have a true top pairing minute eater, it will be tough to win games.

Still a lot of work to do.
They aren’t in the bottom 5. Maybe after tonight. :sarcasm:

Your list shows optimism for a significant surge in the standings in 2025-26, but not really next season.

1. Dach - I expect he’ll still be affected by his injury, and that he’ll take some time learning to play the position full time.
2. Slaf - he’ll continue to improve but hard to make a prediction here.
3. Top pairing D - Most likely candidate (rein) likely to be in Laval next season.
4. Trade - hard to predict the timing here.

Plus, 2024 draft pick - will take a season before joining team, barring lottery win.

I like how things are shaping up for 2025 when we’ll see significant development and reinforcements.

I'm not counting half a season, Pettersson has been alternating from good and bad seasons defensively for almost his entire career and Suzuki has been better all season to a SIGNIFICANT degree.

No one is saying they'd take Suzuki over Pettersson or even disputing he's on a different tier, they're saying he's better defensively.
So where exactly are you taking this “significant” better from is it the advanced stats? Because Suzuki is -14

This team will be competing for a playoff spot next year .Hugo will be doing some talent pickup in between now and the start of next year.
I don't think that's very likely. Unless Hughes is extremely aggressive in changing the roster. We'll know more after the off-season. I think it's possible that they start to push in 2025-26 but I think the most likely scenario is that they start to push hard for 2026-27.

Exactly Buffalo say NO.
Don't think they say NO. They just say no (no capitals) cause there would be little interest in Harris from their side. There would be more interest in Xhekaj than Harris but then Mtl say no. Krebs stock must be falling pretty quickly doubt he is worth much at this point. Sample size is small but every time i saw him i was left extremely unimpressed.

The left side in Buffalo is twice as loaded as in Montreal. Pretty sure they say no to both LDs.

Doesn't matter anyway cause Mtl would not trade Xhekaj for Krebs. Mtl would aim for a guy able to actually score goals. Don't think Buffalo trade Krebs atm. The return would be underwhelming they'll wait and see.

Jordan Harris for Peyton Krebs?

Who say no?
Im not sure Buffalo is doing it but thats the kind of deal KH is gonna be looking for. What are the project with potential he could be looking for:

Kaliev: big winger with big offensive upside, not sure the work ethic and all around game is what KH is looking for but maybe.

Holloway: Another big winger with decent number in the ahl but can’t move up the depth chart in Edm.

Podkolzin:Not sure the top 6 upside is still there but A 3rd line of him and Heineman next year or 2025 could be fun to watch, big wingers with scoring touch.

These are some buy low project that KH could be looking for, but i also think is gonna be looking for the home run swing between now and summer 2025

Habs trade Savard acquire another first, probably more. They draft Demidov and package the two first for young top 6 forward.
