Wondering how old you are and how long you have been a Habs fan? Since 2012? I think you caught the Bergevin flu :sarcasm:

So far, Hughes and Gorton have done a wonderful job so lets not let the past affect their positive movement. Maybe we do end up with a bad contract but hopefully not.
I'm old enough to remember the cup, are you?

2012 is a weird date to pick considering they were paying Gomez almost 8 mil in 2011, and 2010 and 2009... That and anything before the salary cap was fairly inconsequential for a franchise as big as Montreal. That and people were talking about salary much less before the cap.

But I do remember so other stupid ones. Niinimaa was given $2.5 mil at the end of his career to put up 3 points the entire season. That might not seem like a lot but it's $3.7 mil in current dollars and was our highest paid defenseman over Markov, Souray who were putting up 60 point seasons. Samsonov had a pretty bad contract, too. Was our 3rd highest paid player the same year (06-07) only behind Koivu and Kovalev and he was toast. Approx $5.2 mil in todays dollars to put up 9 goals and 26 points, so he was basically a Gallagher/Anderson type contract but was pretty useless other than offense.

Jealous. The cup is my earliest hockey memory.

I also think my first memory of being scared is my dad screaming about how the NHL hates french Canada after it was announced Quebec was losing their team and being moved.

While LA needs goaltending, the Habs aren't getting a roster player back for Allen.

Quite the contrary, if we're able to move on from Allen, it's with a higher paid but shitty pending UFA or equal term contract on a playoff team. Only way to do so before the summer!

Eight Cups here. You're still a youngster. :sarcasm:

I saw and remember twelve Cups:
65-66-68-69
71-73-76-77-78-79
86
93

Lost in Finals three times:
1967
1989
2021

FIVE Most exciting moments (not easy to pick five):

1971 QF vs Boston Game 2 - down a game already, Habs come back from 5-1 deficit in Boston vs the team that just recorded the most points in RS NHL history. The 39 year old captain Jean Beliveau put the team on his back

1979 SF vs Boston Game 7 - Yvon Lambert's OT goal after Guy Lafleur's late tying goal (PP, Bruins too many men)

1986 QF vs Hartford Game 7 - Claude Lemieux's OT goal after 6 straight seasons without a Cup

1993 Final vs LA Game 2 - down a game at home already, Eric Desjardins scored three in a row including the late tying goal (PP, McSorley illegal stick) and the OT goal

2021 SF vs Vegas Game 6 - Artturi Lehkonen's OT snipe to send the Habs to their first Stanley Cup final in 28 years

LMAO you mean this one??

If only we listened to him. :sarcasm:

...So is this the guy that made long posts without saying much of anything at all, never seriously acknowledged any point offered in response (even when they were factually incorrect) and pretended to some sort of expertise. And now they're trying to create a more comforting echo chamber on Twitter?

I think all of us should agree that all HFBoards posters are often wrong (and can be kind of dumb), but that seems like a guy that needs to get off the internet.

This potential transaction has significant implications for both franchises. The Canadiens, looking to return to playoff form, believe the addition of a proven scorer like Guentzel provides the perfect veteran presence to guide their young core. Guentzel, an elite scorer, would immediately slot into the top line alongside Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield . However, this transaction depends on Guentzel's willingness to sign a contract extension in Montreal.

For the Penguins, this potential return marks the start of a rebuilding phase. GM Kyle Dubas recognizes the need to start gathering assets and draft picks as the Penguins prepare for life after the Crosby, Malkin and Letang era. Harris is a promising young defender, Joshua Roy is a top-tier forward, and an additional first-round pick is an extremely valuable bargaining chip. » -Rob Ellis

N MONTREAL:
· Jake Guentzel + Ryan Graves

IN PITTSBURGH:
· Joshua Roy + Jordan Harris + Jets first round pick (2024)

Why would a rebuilding team trade for a rental and give a 1st round pick ?

His posts have almost no replies/likes too lmfao

If he's not trolling it's almost sad

You're almost as wet behind the ears as he is. I have vivid memories of 12 cups: 93, 86, 79, 78. 77, 76, 73, 71, 69, 68, 66 and 65. My mind sometimes plays tricks with my memory and believes I have vague recollections of the 60-cup but I was only 6 at the time and my parents controlled the TV and they definitely wouldn't allow me to stay up late, so I won't count the 60 cup.

Watch some older fart top my 12 cups.

The more I think about it and the more I am convinced the best possible way to get Zegras is to dangle our 2025’s 1st. It is what makes the more sense.

It's the one that makes the least sense.
Why would the ducks trade their young potential elite forward for a pick that could end up being a mid/late 1st round pick?

I guess you missed the part where Guentzel would need to re-sign in MTL.

as for the deal. I dont hate it. I mean at some point they need to add good players, enough with the picks already. His age is a small concern though. I mean he is pushing 30 and he would likely want a long term deal for big money

I am getting a bad feeling about Zegras.....like a Drouin feeling.....
