The Habs have some cap room for another Monahan in 24-25 but not 25-26 as Slaf, Guhle, X and Struble are coming off ELCs

Trading for a big cap hit without dumping equivalent $ is asking for trouble at this stage of the rebuild.

Real money will be freed in;

26-27 Price 10.5M
27-28 Gally and Andy 12M

There will be a lot coming off the books next off-season as well (some may be sooner), with a lot of young players on ELCs potentially being able to fill these roles. Plus the cap will likely continue to rise.

Allen - $3.85M -> Primeau/Dobes
Savard - $3.5M -> Reinbacher
Armia - $3.4M -> Heineman/Tuch/Farrell etc.
Dvorak/Evans - $6.14M -> Beck/Xhekaj/2024 Draft Pick
Petry - $2.4M (dead cap)

Evans, Armia, Savard, Dvorak and Allen all have deals which expire in 2025. That's 13M right there, more than the "real money" being freed up the next two offseasons.

I don't think I'd do either Guhle or Logan Mailloux with our high 1st to move up for those guys.. that would be a little too heavy.

Usually it's a high 2nd and another pick to move from like 7 to 5, so we don't have a high 2nd, but we have the WPG 1st.
The only way I move Guhle is if Arizona/Ottawa want to do a 1 for 1 swap for their pick (maybe add in the WPG 1st too). Then I'd draft Dickerson to replace him

Hence my initial comment:

"Unless they do get their asking price for Allen or Savard, I think we'll see Pearson moved with that last retention spot."

After deadline day, that retention spot has zero value until the offseason... When we regain another spot.

Getting an asset at deadline is better than sitting on an unused spot. Pearson likely gets moved with or without it, but they are probably holding off on moving him until they are sure they aren't using it on Savard, Allen or someone else
Man they really need to move Allen even for future considerations if that's the best offer , it's just causing misery for both Allen and Primeau.

Trading Guhle for a chance to draft Dickinson is a fire-able offence and to even consider throwing in a late first is a potential career killer. It reeks of Mike Milbury trading Luongo to draft Dipietro.

Trading Hutson for Zegras makes much more sense, then you can draft one of Dickinson/Levshunov/Silayev/Buium/Parekh etc as the logjam at D and specifically LD will be lessened by removing Hutson from the queue. .....Maybe you take a skilled forward with our 1st and take Cole Hutson with Winnipeg's 1st :popcorn:

I am not saying that they should necessarily trade for Zegras but just trying to make reasonable scenarios......and perhaps be a little bit silly with some other scenarios :help:

Plus Petry salary.

A little over 19m coming off the books.
After that it’s really only Anderson/Gallagher that have anchors left.

Oh I'm not saying I would, just saying it would be in the realm of possibilities for me
