Go back read old threads, vast majority wanted Dubois. Although 100% now deny it

I dont recall many wanting to to give the farm for him

The vast majority wanted him if the price was low enough because Dubois was supposedly dead set on MTL

most only wanted him IF the price was low enough. That generally was always the caveat

I'll take Dubois for Gallagher and Anderson. A 2 for 1. I can give Harris in extra, no charge. Friday's boss special.

I’d do a trade centered around Dubois for Gallagher ; I’ve had more than enough of the latter’s selfish penalties and the former could likely rebound - that’s what he did in Winnipeg in his second year there.

I don't think LA is that desperate to get rid of PLD.
Getting Gally would cripple them for this year and the next 3, probably the last of Kopitar and Doughty.

PLD is only 25. It's not like he's done.
I'm sure he'll bounce back.

Wonder if Hughes any interest in Turcotte? From '19 draft, lol

But has speed and hockey sense. Scouting reports had Turcotte high compete level and future leadership capabilities. Lacks a good shot preventing him from being top 6 center. Habs might be able to turn him into a Danault or Beck type.

I'm not going to say a flat out no. But for some reason, Turcotte doesn't excite me.

In LA, the one I would target is Kaliyev. He's stuck on their 4th line (and has been a healthy scratch for 2 weeks). But he gets PP time when he's in the line-up. He has a wicked shot. Playing in a depth role, he had 14 goals two seasons ago and last year, he had 13 goals in 56 games, which was a 19-goal pace.

He's also got size, at 6'2" and 209 lbs. He might not be a physical force out there, but he is still a bigger body to have to handle.

I think in Montreal, being put in a more prominent role than he has in LA, he will be able to shine more. I've posted this before, but I look at him the same I do Newhook in the sense that Newhook was also stuck in a depth role in Colorado, but once he came to Montreal, he was put in a top-6 role and on the PP, and we were able to see a more offensive player.

Apparently, Jonathan Berggren rejected a contract offer from the Red Wings. There were rumors earlier in the year that the Canadiens had interest in him.

He's currently in Grand Rapids in the AHL and has 38 pts in 37 games. Last year at 22, he played 67 games in the NHL and had 15 goals and 28 pts. This year, he's only played 9 NHL games and has 5 pts.

From the highlights I had seen of him, he's a guy who can score you a nice goal, but he's not afraid to get to the front of the net and cause problems and score garbage goals.

He also plays the game like the energizer bunny, I can only assume his smallish frame is keeping him from moving up

Sure ,I'd do that as well, but it's never happening. Are you joking or being serious?

I would try to do :

Kaliyev vs Primeau + Harris
Savard vs a late first

And call it a night.

Impossible to trade Allen and he is a good guy and his contract ends soon.

Hutson and Reinbacher are both coming in the next month and Mailloux is also waiting his chance. We need to trade D. And I like Kaliyev I think he could score 25-30 next to Dach or be a good complimentary scorer on a 3rd line.

I was in the sign him as a UFA camp, feel like there were a lot of people that wanted him regardless of cost or were willing to pay a high price to get him... Yes there were also a bunch of people that wanted him for a lower price but a lot of these people were still very eager to trade for him...

After the Markstrom option fell through, Devils GM tried for Saros and this happened:

Can you believe Trotz?

Barry Trotz asked for Dawson Mercer, Seamus Casey, Akira Schmid, the Devils 2024 first-round pick, and the Devils 2025 2nd pick for Alexandre Carrier, Juuse Saros, with the Predators retaining 50 percent on Carrier.

Devils have multiple irons in the fire.

Is Dawson Mercer even available?

PLD has cast a really bad taste in the LA market, and made his bosses look like idiots. Compound that with the success of Vilardi and winnipeg (plus kupari, iafello and a 2nd) it just gets worse..
I think LA would consider just getting rid of him so they dont have to be reminded when they miss and winnipeg hits playoffs.

Getting gally and Andy (equal swap) for 4 years plus a harris/barron to ease the sting might not look so bad rn..
PLD would be decent in mtl... but if that were the trade, he would have a lot less pressure... imagine we gave up what LA did? He'd be run out of town

You think he’d have less pressure being a francophone making $8.5 million for the next 7 years playing in Montreal then he does playing in LA? Hughes wouldn’t touch this guy with a ten foot pole. It goes against what they’re trying to build here. This is the third team he’s burnt bridges with in stunning fashion in 7 years. People should be very grateful we didn’t fall for the media driven hype last summer.

And he would still have pressure with his contract.

NJ will have to give something significant to fix their goaltending problem one way or another.
The reports are that Holtz was included in the supposed deal for Markstrom that fell through.

They also mentionned LA being interested in Saros.
Maybe they've realized that they need a competent goaltender.
They don't have any cap space though.
Maybe they're trying to get rid of PLD to create cap space for this purpose.
Maybe that's the reason MTL and Chicago had two scouts present at their last game?

Like i mentionned in the other post, they need a real goaltender and it looks like they are looking for one.
If they trade PLD, i think it's gonna be to create cap space. So i don't think getting Anderson works for them. And we can forget about Gally. It's not gonna happen for him.

If i'm the Habs, my offer would be something like this:

PLD (1-1.5M retained, to bring his salary under those of Caufield and Suzuki), Copley (contract)
for
Dvorak, Harris/Barron, COL 2024 2nd, Mysak/Kidney

Dvorak on LTIR doesn't count against the cap this year, giving them enough space to get a guy like Saros or Markstrom.
Cap goes up by 4.2M next year, so they'll have enough to fit him in.
