I would prefer to trade Savard and keep Kovacevic, personally. They fill a similar role and Kovacevic is much younger and much cheaper, and somehow Savard is likely to bring back better assets. I think Savard is redundant on next year's Habs team and will just take up space. Better to trade Savard now. It's the right time.

Dallas is well represented tonight with Peverley

watching the game now and Roy is looking pretty good! Assuming we get Eiserman/iginla/Catton..do we really need to trade for zegras or a top 6 guy?

Slaf-Suzuki-Caufield
Roy-Dach-Eiserman
Heineman-Beck-Mesar

Really young team though! I would wait and try to sign a UFA in 2025 if need be

What a terrible take. When we play some meaningful games with a contending roster let's talk about Suzuki's +/-.
No one here ever said Suzuki was a Kopitar level player.
From my standpoint whenever we see or have seen Suzuki playing games he is totally invested in his +/- is not an issue.

I'm failing to see your point as it refers to PLD? :dunno:
Despite PLD being horrible, LAK are playing relativly good. They don't rely on a player like PLD, they have enough depth and a team system that is working.

But I can't understand the hype over Suzuki at his age young peak vs an aging star like Kopitar. Kopi must be so good in many aspects of the game and Habs fans haven't saw that kind of player for decades. It's just to put Suzuki is a relative perspective.

Last week, the Kings got spanked, and Kopitar was a -6 in one game.........................other than Erik Karlsson, I have never seen such a poor effort in one game................

Just pointing out, that maybe the old crunch Kopitar and his plus minus may be in for a real ride here in the next few weeks, and seasons...

As for the Habs, no one is worried about plus minus for the Captain, or the kids right now........the Goalies and the D are ALL a work in progress, so let's not hang that, on Suzuki.
We are stil in the rebuilt mode and all the team is on work progress. But one day, this bunch of young players will be stronger and a team system need to be establish. Having only one line scoring goals is not the receipe of success. The whole team will need to have better +- stats.

I wouldn't be even a little surprised if the Habs are indeed shopping Harris around for a prospect or IMO a similar aged forward who's been in and out of another NHL teams lineup. Hughes would probably prefer that instead of another pick back.

Struble's arrival and play as made Harris expendable IMO.

Right time to trade Savard yes and I'm sure we get good offers. Question is do we use a retention spot on him or save that for Allen?

Dont think hes worth much maybe we trade him in a package deal

Hard to say but it's possible we get a 2nd rounder in return or someone close to his age/potential at forward. Harris is an undersized D man that has good hockey IQ and skating. Cost controlled and he is a legit bottom pairing D quality with the right partner.

Not a Harris hater but he was never in my personal long term plans. I think there was lots of talk about this over the last year or two and yeah, Struble's development is a nice surprise.

what does your D squad look like next year with no Savard? do you bring in a cheap vet as a UFA for a year?
i've said it before but this year is not the year to trade Savard and Matheson. someone has to make up those minutes and it can't be Xhekaj and Struble playing 23 minutes per night - not yet. maybe in two years.
especially with Reinbacher and Hutson coming in. you have to be able to integrate those guys without throwing them to the wolves. you need good vets to insulate them.

------
as for Harris, if they decide to move him, i hope they get a young top 9 tweener. someone of the same ilk as Ylonen but more proven and more built for this team. if they move Harris for a pick, i hope it's used in a package to get a young top 6 ready forward at the draft

Matheson is a keeper for me and I would pair him with Guhle. Habs have lots of guys NHL ready and maturing. Xhekaj, Barron, Struble, Harris. Add Kova as depth. Mailoux is very close to NHL ready too. Reinbacher is probably coming over soon but I would have him in the AHL to limit the expectations/pressure. Same approach as Mailloux when he turned pro. Not to forget... Hutson

This is the right time to trade Savard.

Harris: Buffalo needs depth at D and they have forwards available. Maybe part of a package deal to get a top 9 like Peterka.

from Brian Wilde this morning:

"Montreal is not going to win enough games either until they add some top prospect scorers like Jiri Kulich, Matthew Savoie, or Noah Ostlund. Buffalo definitely doesn’t want to lose any of those players. Montreal doesn’t want to lose Harris or Struble either. Montreal wouldn’t want to have to throw in a first rounder too, but they may have to.

The bottom line is the Canadiens have an overabundance of defenders, and defenders and centres are the hottest commodities on the trading market. If not Buffalo, there are a number of other clubs who need to strengthen their defence."
