Has a 3rd team ever retained on a non-expiring contract?
If we count the Habs getting Petry with no intention of keeping him and then retaining, yes. Although, that was a special case.

But I seems to remember it happening a few years ago in an actual 3-way trade, but it was a low amount for like 2 years. I was thinking Arizona did it, but I can't find the trade back.

The reporters, all of them Friedman included, say things like, 95% certain, PLD to Montreal is done.

Zero credibility.......Zero.

They are not insiders, they are fed what the team wants them to know and then off they go.
We can all speculate as they do......it's crazy the networks pay them to do this stuff? They pay these guys, to say things, like, the leafs may or may not be making a splash today.....sit tight.

Grain of salt to be used, on anything coming out of these guys mouth's

Habs trades usually come out of no where........
Friedman always blurs the line between opinion to insider info.

“I can’t help but think - given his usage - that, if I’m Kent Hughes, I’m picking up the phone…”
Vs
“I’ve been hearing they’ve made calls to inquire…”

Out of the 32 cities in the NHL, I would argue Montreal is pretty attractive. I don't know when is the last time you traveled in North America but you can go to NY and LA if you want but they aren't half as glamorous as they used to be.

Raleigh, Buffalo, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, San Jose, Philly and Pittsburgh aren't exactly gems of urbanism, Columbus f***ing Ohio, New jersey is whatever as **** and finally Arizona....
I've been living in Moscow until recently so all those places you mentioned are pretty much shitholes as Tucker Carlson so aptly demonstrated :sarcasm:.

The media was more speculating he could be available, rather than him actually being shopped.

No smart GM would put word out they are shopping a young player like Zegras since teams wouldn't pay as much if they know a GM wants to move on. Given Verbeek didn't draft him and spent all off-season playing hardball with Zegras on a contract, I am sure he is definitely listening on offers though.
Didn’t Briere do exactly that w Cutter Gauthier…

Yeah, it's doable, but the price is steep. More than just a 3rd.
It will probably cost more than what they'll get back for Allen at 50%.

Curious if you’ve ever been to Raleigh-Durham (tech triangle area) or Columbus?

Raleigh is young w tech types and very hip.

Columbus is a beautiful city very artsy & safe w excellent food options

and yet Big Hair Elliot is considered a TRUE insider... he guesses as much as we do on here
Still, he speaks directly to GMs and other sources around the league, so he knows stuff that we don't.

But if you expect he can predict the future or that he spies on teams, i guess i understand your disappointment with him.

Plus a lot of these calls GMs make are either routine engagement or just doing their due diligence. An insider mentioning those calls without added context are just reporting on phone dialing propensities.

The best predictor of players on the way out is their contract situation.

There hasn’t been a good predictor of players being acquired. Dach, Newhook - out of the blue. … well, maybe there’s something about the 2019 draft. Kakko, Zegras? :sarcasm:
Dach was out of blue but Basu (and maybe Engels?) were talking about Newhook for weeks before

I don't remember reading anything linking Dach to the Habs before the draft but there were reports that he was available and that the price was a top 10 pick.
The surprise came from the fact that the Habs were able to get a pick near the top 10 just before the draft.

I don't know that Tucker Carlson can aptly demonstrate anything but I will grant you that the subway looked impressive and beautiful!

I've been to Columbus in 2016 and I will grant you there's something to it, it's better than Buffalo and other cities mentioned in my initial post but I don't know that it stands out enough to get UFAs thrilled to go there (beside Johny Hockey ;) )

I will admit my experience of Carolina is pretty much Myrtle Beach, which is ok if you like golfing and the beach I suppose. I also know that's in South Carolina but you called my bluff

But it tells that Kopitar today at 36y is better than Suzuki at 22.
What makes LAK a decent team ? (having a bad goalie and below average D except Doughty)
Is that every forward have enough skills and quality for his rank position? I think they have at least 3 good lines out of 4. And sometimes 4 good lines running.

Kopitar have 2 last seasons in the + stats while Suzuki is steady in the minus numbers. I guess that's his teamates ...
What a terrible take. When we play some meaningful games with a contending roster let's talk about Suzuki's +/-.
No one here ever said Suzuki was a Kopitar level player.
From my standpoint whenever we see or have seen Suzuki playing games he is totally invested in his +/- is not an issue.

I'm failing to see your point as it refers to PLD? :dunno:

Last week, the Kings got spanked, and Kopitar was a -6 in one game.........................other than Erik Karlsson, I have never seen such a poor effort in one game................

Just pointing out, that maybe the old crunch Kopitar and his plus minus may be in for a real ride here in the next few weeks, and seasons...

As for the Habs, no one is worried about plus minus for the Captain, or the kids right now........the Goalies and the D are ALL a work in progress, so let's not hang that, on Suzuki.

Here is my proposal for the TDL

To DAL
Jonathan Kovacevic
SJ 5th round pick

To MTL
Ty Dellandrea
DAL 3rd round pick 2026
I would prefer to trade Savard and keep Kovacevic, personally. They fill a similar role and Kovacevic is much younger and much cheaper, and somehow Savard is likely to bring back better assets. I think Savard is redundant on next year's Habs team and will just take up space. Better to trade Savard now. It's the right time.
