Zegras is the equal of Boldy and Caufield and probably ahead of Cozens. Cozens should be doing better than a 50 pter by now.
Caufield is a sniper, so it has little more value. Boldy is better than Zegras. The problem is that Zegras is point production only. No more valuable aspects in his game- weak faceoffs for a center, not physical, very low defensive awareness. So you cannot just look at point. Cozens is pacing for 50 pts only, but he is still a big center. And Zegras is just 7 pts in 20 GP which is even worse.

I'm very weary of younger offense only players who have their production dip mightily when that team graduates more players.

Zegras with all the deployment and opportunity in the world might score points - but I don't want another Drouin.

Do you have a cut off for trading this pick? Me personally, pre-draft and I'd trade 10th. At the draft, if we are sitting say 7th and Mack, Lindstrom and Demidov are gone, I'd probably do it. I'd hold firm for those three though.

The chances Catton, Helenius or Eiserman surpass what Zegras has already done (2 x 60+ pts seasons) are there, but slim at best.
If a pick around 7th is a player who's chances are slim at best of beating just 2 60 point seasons, this top-10 is less than puddle deep. I'm still catching up on watching players so I suppose it could be true, I'm guilty of always watching the d-men of a draft first and more often.

The Oilers are taking on 12M and clearing only about 7.5M.
They don't have the cap space to make that deal.

The only way it works if they take Gally after the season.
They can keep Foegele. I think they'd rather have him than Gally anyway.

And their priority seems to add another top 6 player.
We have a guy we could make available for a price, with 9 goals in 37 games (20 goal pace) who can also kill penalties and has had some playoff success with his big frame.

Ryan Johansen for Jake Allen. A center for a goalie. We need centers. Cap hit are the same.
I proposed that myself twice here.

nice assumptions
What assumption? We’ve literally watched our fanbase fall in love with the idea of a player over what the player actually is recently. Why is Anaheim having troubles resigning him? Will we have trouble signing him for something fair? Is he really the missing piece for our team when a team in the exact same position doesn’t seem to think so? These are questions you have to ask. When I watch him play I see a lot of flash and not much else. I’m not interested in that taking up a lot of cap space long term.

Yes I’m taking Cozens and Boldy before both Zegras and Caufield

Matthew Phillips on waivers.

He's the kind of quality filler I would claim because of all our injuries. So we can allow one of Roy or Gignac to play in Laval for their playoff run. And he can't be more useless than Ylonen, right?

He is signed until 2025-26. And he is not supposed to be the missing piece.

Cozens is overrated. Sabres would be much better if he was any good. He gets to play with much better players than any of the others. Boldy only recently got to be a line with either Eriksson-Ek and Kaprizov.

If we’re trading for him, it will be at the cost of him being the missing piece. His cap a couple of years from now when we’re suppose to be competitive will also require paying him like he’s that as well. If we’re going to pay the price for a center which we need, and we’re already having to give up high value assets which people are suggesting a top 10 pick a lot in these threads, then we should go all in on something more then what Zegras offers.
