Very true.My biggest concern with Zegras is why a rebuilding team like the Ducks are trying to trade him in the 1st place?
The answer is always one of these:
- attitude doesn't work with management (on or/and off the ice)
- development stagnated/not improving what the team is asking him to improve
- requested a trade in some ways

If Zegras was fitting with the Ducks, he wouldn't be talked about as a trade bait so much.

One for one Savard for Kakko might be fair but I certainly wouldn't add ++ to Savard. I'd put Kakko's value around a late 1st and feel Savard could fetch more than that, especially if we retain 50%.
It would probably be like Kakko for Savard, a B tier prospect (Mysak) and a 3rd

Why can’t we target players with no red flags? We just did this with PLD for two years and the people that were insistent on just ignoring warning signals are eating their words hard right now. Teams in a rebuild like Anaheim don’t trade 22 year old 60+ point centres unless there’s a defect.

Revisiting an Armia trade.

I think KH won't retain on Armia, as he has better targets for that 2024 and 2025 slot. (Savard, Dvorak or Allen).

But Armia is no longer as overpaid as some other players in the league. He'd be a good playoff 4th line warrior with PK ability and a touch of offence.

If we are going to be stuck with $3.4M through next year, then maybe trade Armia to a team that dumps a total useless scrub with equal salary and term back, and take a 2nd pick or two 3rd picks for the real on-ice value difference.

But something in betweeen is ok with me. too. Instead of 7OA for Zegras plus Newhook 2.0 we could try to move Struble or Xhekaj for a Romanov-like return, then trade the mid-first rounder for Zegras.

Neither Struble nor Xhekaj has the upside of Reinbacher, Mailloux or even Hutson.

By the way, I'm not opposed to using Hutson in a trade, but as a main piece, not a low-value throw-in. He is super-hyped and is much less likely to surpass the hype than to fall short of it.

I like the idea of a big, mobile and fast defence.
They aren't going to give us Zegras for spare parts. They're going to want a premium and I don't want to pay it.

If he's so great, why don't the Ducks want to keep him? (I honestly haven't been paying attention and don't know.) We saw the same thing with PLD and that blew up in LA's face.

We're doing really well with our drafting and development. I like the direction we're going and would prefer not to disrupt it. If somebody wants our extra first and an extra blueliner that isn't in our longer term plans I'm okay with it but that's not going to land you this guy.

I think Kakko is fading fast. He and Lafreniere went in different directions this year.

Savard retained for two Cup runs should fetch a first and second, or equivalent players. I would not trade two assets of that calibre for Kakko right now. He lacks foot speed among other things.

Oh I wouldn't make that trade, was just saying what rangers would probably ask for. I'm using Savard for draft capital then flipping it in a trade a la Newhook/Dach

That's my price.

Either the 7 OA for Zegras plus Newhook 2.0 or Struble/Xhekaj/midfirst for Zegras alone.

Not willing to overpay despite Craig Button being very high on Zegras (18 points in 7 games at the WJC at 19).

Rangers have Fox, Trouba and Schneider as RD they are not trading for Savard.
Edmonton could use both Savard and Allen. Even Gallagher could help them. That club needs some vet leadership.

Savard
Allen 50% retained (his salary is higher than Savard's)
Gallagher

for Campbell
2024 first
Holloway or 2026 2nd
Foegele

Montreal
KH knows he has a goalie that is weak , so take what you can get

Allen is a guy teams looking to shore up their goaltending will be interested in. Teams looking at Markstrom or Gibson are looking for starters. Not every team is looking at those kinds of goalies.

I think the only other goalie who would be more of a "challenger" to Allen is Merzlikins. But that's who I can think of at the top of my head right now. There might be some others.

watch Kaako for Zegras
Rangers do that trade all day long. I’m assuming they’ve lost patience with Kakko and at least, Zegras has shown he can score and his circus act would not be frowned upon in NY’s zoo atmosphere.

I wouldn't give Montreal's 1st for Zegras (and probably wouldn't give up a Hutson on Reinbacher either), but I'm not sure it would be an overpay.

Certainly a 7OA for Zegras plus Newhook 2.0 or Struble/Xhekaj/midfirst for Zegras alone is an underpay.

Zegras is 22 and has 146 points in his first 200 games. The Ducks aren't going to move him for cheap.

The Oilers are taking on 12M and clearing only about 7.5M.
They don't have the cap space to make that deal.

The only way it works if they take Gally after the season.
They can keep Foegele. I think they'd rather have him than Gally anyway.

And their priority seems to add another top 6 player.

Ryan Johansen for Jake Allen. A center for a goalie. We need centers. Cap hit are the same.
What do you do for next year w all of Dach, Johansen, and Evans under contract? Kick the can down the road for the summer?
